Another Government run program that ended up costing way more than necessary in addition to promoting the expansion of Government programs while at the same time trashing the Constitution. This is the same congress who wants to run everything from your retirement accounts to your home mortgages and even the automobile industry. They can not even build a visitor center on budget and you want hand them the reigns of the health care system. GOD HELP US ALL!

Ted Turner Launches New Sustainable Tourism Strategy
Rebecca Ruiz
by Rebecca Ruiz  10-6-2008
What exactly is sustainable tourism? While many have tried to clarify the concept, it often seems like a collection of vague ideals. But today Ted Turner and a newly founded coalition of 27 organizations have put forth specific criteria. It includes jobs for locals, including in management positions; support for local entrepreneurs; and protection of important archeological, historical, spiritual and cultural sites. Do you think these guidelines will help protect destinations and the people who live there?

More Galapagos Than The Galapagos
Elisabeth Eaves

Yemen's Socotra island is a Dr. Seuss land of plants and critters you won't find anywhere else. Now' it's been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Natural Site. I visited in 2004 and can confirm that it's wacky and wonderful...Iwrote about it on Forbes.com in a story about the most isolated places in the world (http://www.forbes.com/2007/05/01/escape-travel-communication-life_cx_ee_07networks_0501grid_slide_3.html?thisSpeed=15000)

tourism is also thought to be responsible for the start of what could be a slow death of the terraces for a couple of reasons. firstly, the new generation of locals see the hospitality industry created by the terraces as a far more appealing line of work than the constant farming and attention needed to sustain the terraces themselves. secondly, water isn’t as readily available as in the past due to the effects of an earthquake in 1990 and the new demand for water itself from the tourist industry. for that reason unesco has placed the terraces on a list of world heritage sites it believes to be ‘in danger’
