POPSMore unreleased Hendrix music to be released Janie Hendrix, president and CEO of Experience Hendrix and sister of the late guitarist, told Billboard.com that there remains “10 years of Hendrix music” in the vaults. She went on to say she’s currently in the studio transferring tapes of Band of Gypsy performances that have never been released. Janie Hendrix also assured Billboard.com that any new opportunities that arise with regard to her late brother will “uphold the standard of the music.”

In fact, these days, new formats are coming faster and faster, and each one expires faster than what came before it. "There's a consensus that as the ability to store more and more data , the data itself has become less and less reliable," said Don Mennerich, an archivist at the New York Public Library. He's been working on preserving some historic 1968 audio interviews with rock stars: Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, The Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Mike Love of The Beach Boys, Phil Everly. In 1996 the library tried to rescue those 30-year-old recordings by transferring them to fresh, brand-new tapes. And most of 'em can't. (Example, from Anne McCaffrey's Dragonsong :"Don’t leave me alone! / The cry in the night / Of anguish heart-striking / Of soul-killing fright / O live for my living / Or else I must die / Don’t leave me alone! / A world heard that cry." I'm sorry, but even when I was 14 I thought that was cheesy...)
