Not only has the so-called "War on Drugs" utterly failed to stop the flow of recreational drugs in America, it has criminalized struggling farmers who seek to grow industrial hemp as a profitable, renewable crop that's in high demand across multiple industries.

Currently eight states -- Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Montana, North Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia -- allow industrial hemp production or research, but federal law, which requires nearly-impossible-to-obtain-permits to grow hemp, trumps those state laws. A bill introduced by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) would allow states to craft their own policies. POPSThe Hemp Revolution [documentary] I firmly believe that economic and environmental imperatives will compel America to re-examine our relationship to this plant. It's going to get to the point where people realize that, aside from recreational use, it's just too damn useful a plant and it grows damn well just about anywhere.
