POPSSPACE PHOTOS THIS WEEK Previous infrared images of the same galaxy taken by the Spitzer Space Telescope showed only a blur (left). Herschel will be able to reveal some of the coldest and most distant objects in the universe, as it is the first space telescope able to see the longer, lower-energy wavelengths of light known as far-infrared to submillimeter wavelengths.

POPSScientists Have No Idea What's Up With the Sun Revelation: 16:8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was permitted to scorch people with fire. 16:9 Thus people were scorched by the terrible heat, yet they blasphemed the name of God, who has ruling authority over these plagues, and they would not repent and give him glory.

POPSA Spiritual Song and Powerful Prayer for the USA
Lord of the troubled sea, when I m walking through deep water, You alone can be dry ground beneath my feet Lord of the flames, when I walk in through the fire, You alone can shield me from the heat Lord of the desert, when I walk across the burning sand, my mouth with living water You can fill Lord of the storms, when the wind would tear my moorings, you alone are my word: “Peace, be still!” That’s why I say, You are my all in all. You’re the air I breathe, the song I sing, the help I call. And when I know I just can’t cope, You alone are all my hope For Your grace is enough for me Lord of the night, when I’m walking through the darkness, You’re my pillar of fire to feed me on my way Lord of the light, when the burning sun would scorch me, You’ll be my Jonas vine to shield me from the day Lord of the body, when I just can’t stand the hurting, You’ll be my healing from crippling and from pain Lord of the mind, when legion brings insanity, You’re the word that

POPSArtificial Meteorite Shows Martian Impactors Could Carry Traces Of Life Unfortunately the heat of reentry was so high, even with a protective two centimetre-thick rock coating, that the organisms were carbonised. They died but their cells still remain as "pompeified" forms. if martian sedimentary meteorites carry traces of past life, these traces could be safely transported to Earth. However, the results are more problematic when applied to Panspermia, a theory that proposes living cells could be transported between planets. STONE-6 showed at least two centimetres of rock is not sufficient to protect the organisms during entry."

POPSNASA Plans to Visit the Sun The two mysteries prompting this mission are the high temperature of the sun's corona and the puzzling acceleration of the solar wind: Mystery #1—the corona: If you stuck a thermometer in the surface of the sun, it would read about 6000o C. Intuition says the temperature should drop as you back away; instead, it rises. The sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, registers more than a million degrees Celsius, hundreds of times hotter than the star below. This high temperature remains a mystery more than 60 years after it was first measured. Mystery #2—the solar wind: The sun spews a hot, million mph wind of charged particles throughout the solar system. Planets, comets, asteroids—they all feel it. Curiously, there is no organized wind close to the sun's surface, yet out among the planets there blows a veritable gale. Somewhere in between, some unknown agent gives the solar wind its great velocity. The question is, what?

POPSAstronauts Inspect Space Shuttle Heat Shield Astronauts Inspect Space Shuttle Discovery's (STS-120) Heat Shield on first day of orbit for a two week long mission. A laser sensor-tipped extension of their shuttle's robotic arm to scan heat shield panels along the orbiter's wing edges and nose cap. A complete analysis of the heat shield survey is still under way. Harmony, a vital hub-like module will anchor five future laboratories to the ISS and unfold a large solar array.
