POPSTop U.S. Scientist Arrested in FBI Sting Attempting to Sell Nuclear Secrets to Israel
The conduct alleged in this complaint is serious and should serve as a warning to anyone who would consider compromising our nation’s secrets for profit,” said David Kris, assistant attorney general for national security. … “From 1989 through 2006, Nozette held security clearances as high as top secret and had regular, frequent access to classified information and documents related to the US national defense,” the Justice Department said. … “In addition, Nozette allegedly offered to reveal additional classified information that directly concerned nuclear weaponry, military spacecraft or satellites, and other major weapons systems,” DOJ said. In addition to allegations against a network of moles said to be based at U.S. nuclear weapons facilities, Edmonds has also fingered current and former members of Congress, such as Dennis Hastert (R-IL), Dan Burton (R-IN), Roy Blunt (R-MO),Stephen Solarz (D-NY) and Tom Lantos (D-CA, deceased), as well as high-ranking Pentagon and State Dept.

POPSFBI Whistleblower:Members of Congress 'Bribed, Blackmailed' The under-oath, detailed allegations include bribery, blackmail, espionage and infiltration of the U.S. government of, and by current and former members of the U.S. Congress, high-ranking State and Defense Department officials and agents of the government of Turkey. The broad criminal conspiracy is said to have resulted in, among other things, the sale of nuclear weapons technology to black market interests including Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, Libya and others.

POPSA "Dark Winter" for Public Health: Meet Homeland Security's New Bioterror Czarina Before being pegged by the Obama administration to head DHS's Science and Technology division where she will oversee the department's billion dollar budget, with some 45 percent of it going towards chemical and bioweapons defense, O'Toole, as previously mentioned, was the CEO and Director of UPMC's Center for Biosecurity, a satrapy which describes itself as "an independent organization dedicated to improving the country's resilience to major biological threats."

POPSPelosi's Issued Unprecedented Demands for Military Aircraft & Wasted Taxpayer Resources with Last
"Not only does Speaker Pelosi issue unreasonable requests for military travel, but her office seems unconcerned about wasting taxpayer money with last minute cancellations and other demands." The following are a few highlights from the documents, which are linked in full below: here's no need to block every weekend 'just in case'..." The email also notes that Pelosi's office had, "a history of canceling many of their past requests." One DOD official complained about the "hidden costs" associated with the speaker's last minute changes and cancellations. "We have...folks prepping the jets and crews driving in (not a short drive for some), cooking meals and preflighting the jets etc." The documents include a discussion of House Ethics rules and Defense Department policies as they apply to the speaker's requests for staff, spouses and extended family to accompany her on military aircraft. In May 2008, her husband join her on a Congressional Delegation into Iraq.

POPSGingrich warns Republicans of "catastrophic election" Time for a fresh start. May I suggest these sure-fire strategies: TAX CUTS! Blame BIG GUBMINT. Pitch TRICKLE DOWN. How 'bout that WAR ON TARA? How 'bout WE WON'T DO ANYTHING ON HEALTHCARE? Or WE WON'T TALK ABOUT RACE. If those don't bring us to our senses, bring out the deep stuff: WRIGHT! ELITIST! SOCIALIZED MEDICINE! LIBBRUL! Oh my, he's right. All the milk's gone sour.

POPSRepublicans See Storm Clouds Gathering More: "It's no mystery," said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.). "You have a very unhappy electorate, which is no surprise, with oil at $108 a barrel, stocks down a few thousand points, a war in Iraq with no end in sight and a president who is still very, very unpopular. He's just killed the Republican brand." Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain (Ariz.) helped Oberweis raise money, and the NRCC pumped more than $1.2 million into the district -- using more than 20 percent of its cash on hand -- to no avail. "Even if it was mostly about Jim Oberweis, it's a terrible sign," Rothenberg said. "It adds to Democratic energy and further depresses the Republicans. And you can't dismiss the idea that there is an atmospheric advantage for the Democrats." Barack Obama campaigned on behalf of Bill Foster, who took over Dennis Hastert's vacated seat.

POPSDennis Hastert's seat goes to Democrat Oddly enough, this development may be a good argument for not putting Obama on the ticket if Clinton comes back to win. If the downstate areas of Illinois are going Democratic, the party really doesn't have to worry about Illinois' electoral votes in the fall.

POPSFormer Speaker Hastert's Congressional Seat is Lost to a Newbie Democrat! If this is any indication of things to come, and it is, the Republicans have a lot to worry about come November. This seat has been reliably Republican for decades. The Democrats didn't even contest a couple of elections in Hastert's area. Just two weeks ago it appeared the Democrat didn't stand a chance. I really believe the country has finally awakened to the facts that the Bush administration, and their supporters in Congress has taken the country in a terribly wrong and deadly direction.

POPSFormer House Speaker Hastert:::McCain 'Allied With Democrats' The former House speaker has not had a lot of good to say about McCain in recent years. He contended that on agenda items under the Republican-controlled Congress, “it just seems like everything we did, John was someplace else.” “It was McCain-Kennedy, it was McCain-Lieberman, it was McCain-Feingold on campaign finance reform,” Hastert said, noting Democratic co-sponsors. “He was against us on tax cuts and his form of immigration reform was to open the gates and let everybody in.” “He is a moderate,” the former speaker said. “In almost everything he’s done, he’s done (things) against what mainstream Republicans thought and he’s allied with Democrats. He was always the undependable vote in the Senate.” McCain's campaign thinks they can smooth things over. "We look forward to the Speaker's support in the general election," said Steve Schmidt, a senior adviser to McCain.

POPSIS YOUR CONGRESSMAN A CROOK Sen Rick Renzi (R -AZ) Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) Rep. John Doolittle (R-Calif.) Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.) Rep. Gary Miller (R-Calif.) Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-W.V.) Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) I'm sure there are others who just haven't been caught yet.

POPSGreenspan: Clinton Good, Bush Bad "House Speaker Hastert and House majority leader Tom DeLay seemed readily inclined to loosen the federal purse strings any time it might help add a few more seats to the Republican majority,"

POPSThe Ombudsman...your protector? Bush needs to be impeached...not for Iraq, although tha's a good idea too...for breaking the constitution and not protecting our American workers and their jobs (which is his duty).

POPSHastert Flew Family and Friends Too According to a Chicago Sun-Times report then Speaker Hastert used his military aircraft to transport himself, staff, security staff, other members of congress, and his wife. Not a single rightwinger complained.

POPSThe Mark Foley saga Mark Foley comes off as very human in this Vanity Fair article, albeit very a flawed and weak-willed one. It also goes into some details on Hastert's efforts to cover-up the fact that the Republican leadership knew about Foley's problem for some time. Via Paul Kiel at TPMMuckraker .

POPSLeadership Woes. I find these types of posturing for leadership positions interesting. Why isn't Mitch McConnell being mentioned as minority leader?

POPSEarlier Confrontation The disclosure pushes back the date when a member of Congress has acknowledged learning of Foley's behavior. A timeline issued by House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) suggested that the first lawmakers to know, Rep. John M. Shimkus (R-Ill.), chairman of the House Page Board, and Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-La.), became aware of "overly friendly" e-mails last fall.
