POPSand China is Worse than this? What a perversion of justice. And all for ONE trial with a 9 month sentence so far. Out of nearly 700 POWs there may be only 80 cases after all the torture that they will even bring to their kangaroo court show trail. What a system. What an advert for American 'democracy'. Were the Nazis as unjust as this never mind China. I know one thing for absolute certainty; one country is moving forward while the other is racing backwards. Most countries make at least a pretence at dispensing justice to its foes while Bush appears to intend to deliberately offend normal basic standards and to goad even more terrorism to justify his misnomer 'War on Terror'.

Though Republican Riley initially behind by several thousand votes, pulled ahead at the last minute when disputed ballots were tallied in his favor during a late night recount” by Republicans behind locked doors, no Democratic election officials or press members present. After the abrupt vote turnaround, Siegelman sought a mutually verified recount, which never took place. The call focused on how they could get Siegelman to withdraw recount request.

POPSThom Hartmann: How Liberals Can Speak Without Boring Everyone to Tears The Republican Party was captured in the 1870s by the railroad barons and turned from the reform party that Abe Lincoln had run on the platform of, into the party of inherited wealth and corporate interests. Since Reagan, they have successfully reinvented themselves as the party of soft bigotry and "NASCAR average guys." Progressives are liberals who are actually doing something, whereas liberals are the folks who have the understanding of the worldview. Progressives are the activists. L.c. ]

POPSCommon Sense We are the nation whose President Nixon reached out to and met with China’s Mao Tse Tsung at the same time Mao was funding and arming the North Vietnamese to kill our soldiers in Vietnam. We’re the nation whose President Reagan confronted Soviet President Gorbachev, who at the time had thousands of nuclear warheads armed and pointed at us and was actively funding and arming proxy wars we were fighting in more than a half-dozen nations. We’re the nation whose President Roosevelt said, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.”

POPSWhite House preparing to stage new September 11 - Reagan official
Old-line Republicans like Roberts have become increasingly disenchanted with the neo-conservative politics of the Bush administration, which they see as a betrayal of fundamental conservative values. According to a July 9-11 survey by Ipsos, an international public opinion research company, President Bush and the Republicans can claim a mere 31 percent approval rating for their handling of the Iraq war and 38 percent for their foreign policy in general, including terrorism. "The administration figures themselves and prominent Republican propagandists ... are preparing us for another 9/11 event or series of events," he said. "You have to count on the fact that if al Qaeda is not going to do it, it is going to be orchestrated." Roberts suggested that in the absence of a massive popular outcry, only the federal bureaucracy and perhaps the military could put constraints on Bush's current drive for a fully-fledged dictatorship. "They may have had enough. They may not go along wi
