POPSWe Are At War!...and don't you forget it!....clipable A summation of Bush's "State Of The Union" address that gives a well thought out critique of the deeper meaning of his words and statements. One thing that I didn't notice was his refusal to use the word "Democratic" instead of "Democrat"...may sound trivial, but this is exactly how this administration operates.

POPSPoll: Bethlehem's Christians fear Israelis, not Muslims An interesting polling result from OpenBethlehem.org. They find that Americans have enormous misconceptions about Bethlehem's history, demographics, and even location; while Christian Bethlehemites, who are mostly Palestinians, see Israel as systematically destroying the town's Christian heritage (which, they say, has been protected by the Palestinian Authority).

POPSA greater evil is more likely as America wakes up to the awesome...
Beside the effective destruction of the Iraqi state, these include the revitalising of militant Islamism and enhancement of the international appeal of the al-Qaida brand; the eruption for the first time in modern history of internecine war between Sunni and Shia - "a trend that reverberates in other states of mixed confessional composition"; the alienation of most sectors of Turkish politics from the west, and the stimulation of authoritarian nationalism there; the strengthening of a nuclear-hungry Iran; and a new regional rivalry, pitting the Islamic Republic of Iran and its allies, including Syria, Hizbullah and Hamas, against Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan. For the US, the world is now, as a result, a more dangerous and hostile place. At the end of 2002, what is sometimes tagged al-Qaida Central in Afghanistan had been virtually destroyed and there was no al-Qaida in Iraq. In 2007, there is an al-Qaida in Iraq; parts of the old are creeping back; there are al-Qaida emulator

POPSChristians warned: Accept Islamic law Ya know, I'm not any kind of Christian ranter,or even believer, really(.If I HAD to choose, I'd probably go Buddhist,....or Native American),......but anyway,....to that guy who proclaimed WMD to be bogus the other day,....if you do your searches you'll find they are often just on the cutting edge of stories NOT being reported by the mainstream. It's interesting how we will think we have found a nugget of truth if we WANT to believe it but if we do NOT want to, then we can just label as B.S. anything the wire services aren't reporting.

POPSWe want More WAR, We want More WAR, NOW! A recent congressional resolution on Iran underscores the War Party's lock on the foreign policy 'debate'. Calling on the UN to bring charges of "genocide" against Iranian is yet another example of political pandering and congressional grandstanding that bears little, if any, relationship to reality.

POPSUS Support “It’s the kiss of death” "you will never win.”
“No politician can afford to identify with the West because poll after poll shows people don’t believe in the U.S. agenda,” said Mustafa Hamarneh, until recently the director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan. Mr. Hamarneh is running for a seat in Jordan’s Parliament in November, but he says he has made a point of keeping his campaign focused locally, and on bread-and-butter issues. “If somebody goes after you as pro-American he can hurt you,” he said. “The Americans think that supporting democracy should create positive reactions,” said Nicola Nassif, a columnist with the left-leaning Lebanese daily Al Akhbar. “No one can be against democracy, sovereignty, independence and freedom. But not if it upsets the internal power balance, not if it empowers one party against the other, especially in a country where supporting one group can lead to violence and even civil wars.” “Last Sunday we saw that even if you are a former president running for a seat in

POPSWas He Lying Then Or Now? I knew Barack Obama for many years as my state senator—when he used to attend events in the Palestinian community in Chicago all the time. I remember personally introducing him onstage in 1999, when we had a major community fundraiser for the community center in Deheisha refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. I have been proud to be a part of a strong, bipartisan consensus that has stood by Israel in the face of all threats... I will always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself in the United Nations and around the world. Lie: In January 2008, a Palestinian activist named Ali Abunimah described Barack Obama’s overnight switch from Pro-Palestinian activist to supporter of Israel.

POPSHamas endorses Obama There is an interview worth listening to at that link. Hamas understands American politics, Obama speaks their language.

POPSThe US & Hamas: No good choices left Rather than fighting against Hamas, the US must move to draw them into the mainstream. The Hamas government would have collapsed anyway long ago if it were not for the groundswell of support that rose as the US and Israel moved to crush it. The harder we fight against Hamas, the stronger they will become. It will confirm our status as imperialists in the eyes of the Palestinians, and will turn Hamas into heroic underdogs. Depleted by senseless wars and indefensible foreign policy, the US may well be entering a new age: one where we may have to respect the soveriegnty of other countries, even if we don't like their politics. Will the Bush Administration realize this or simply push bullishly farther down a road which leads nowhere but to failure and violence? Our foreign policy is empowering our enemies.

POPSMedia focus on Hamas Mouse, neglect occupation As many of you are aware, the news (and Clipmarks) have been deluged with stories about a children's show produced by Hamas that features a Mickey Mouse-type character who allegedly espouses hatred toward Jews. Tom Wallace points out that the media have been ignoring the reality of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

POPSUS Diplomat: "Israel Intellegence unreliable" Laywer lies. An anonymous Israel government lawyer was a key witness and gave perjured critical evidence in a USA court to prevent monies originating in the USA going to Palestinian charities as the donations were intended. By linking the charity with Hamas, Israel would effectively steal the Palestinian monies, using American courts. I believe that Israel cannot allow that this case be lost. Having told so many lies to date, it cannot allow the loss of face that not winning would mean. Will the former US ambassador's word count in a US court against the might of the Israeli lobby. It's likely that this is purely a show trail and no matter what evidence the defence produce, the result is predetermined. The notion of Hamas being a terrorist organization may also hang on this case. Europe will be watching how the case is conducted from here on.

POPSLesson: Starved Sarajevo, Starving Gaza - both Muslin. Ok The effects of the siege are disastrous. Palestinians in Gaza are not allowed to travel abroad. They cannot enter Israel for work. They do not fish off the coast because Israeli gunboats open fire at any vessels that are more than a mile offshore. Gaza has seen 75 percent of its factories closed since June, with the loss of 68,000 jobs, according to the World Bank. There is a 70 percent unemployment rate, and 1.1 million of the 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza depend on U.N. assistance to survive. The boycott has forced the United Nations to suspend $93 million worth of construction projects for homes, schools and sewage treatment in Gaza because cement and other building supplies have run out. These UN projects once employed 121,000 people. About 80%t of the Palestinians in Gaza survive on $2 a day. Basic foodstuffs such as milk powder, baby formula, vegetable oil and medical supplies are running out.... www.truthdig.com

POPSDeath by Sewage Two years ago UN aid agencies warned that this could happen, but no new sewage treatment facility was built to handle the extreme overload of waste. Why was this? Terrorist activities (Palestinian and Israeli) in the area? Foreign aid suspension when Hamas came to power? Disregard for the people whose health and livelihoods were in danger from the sewage? A terrible tragedy in itself, made worse by the fact that it was foreseen yet was not averted.
