In an interview with Beirut-based NBN TV this afternoon I argued that this statement by Obama may be an opportunity for the Iranian decision-makers to consider a u-turn on strategic matters, but the fact is that the regime feels it has the upper hand everywhere in the Middle East. Why would they make concessions if their perception is that the US is already withdrawing from Iraq, is requesting their help in Afghanistan and is not committed to support democracy in Iran?

It’s time to recall another Israeli incursion in which Palestinians used casualty numbers seemingly plucked out of the air to justify its claim that Israel was employing “disproportionate force.” In the spring of 2002, after months of near-daily suicide bombings inside Israel, the IDF decided to make a major incursion into the Jenin refugee camp, which even Al-Fatah documents identified as “the capital of suicide bombing. Nasser al-Kidwa, a Palestinian representative to the United Nations, told CNN: “There’s almost a massacre now taking place in Jenin. Helicopter gunships are throwing missiles at one square kilometer packed with almost 15,000 people in a refugee camp. . . . Just look at the TV and watch, watch what the Israel forces are doing.

POPSGaza: The Wider War It is welcome news for al-Qaida. Indeed, Osama bin Laden has frequently characterised the alliance between the United States and Israel in ideological terms as a "crusader-Zionist" assault on Islam. In this light, the great advantage of the Gaza war of 2008-09 to Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri and their associates is that it revalidates and reinvigorates the Zionist dimension of their worldview before a global audience. The implications of that are both complex and uncertain, but it is certain that the Gaza war will be used repeatedly in the years to come to implant and reinforce the al-Qaida message.

POPSHamas war crimes: the CNN strategy
The use of human shields, in the way Hamas uses the civilian population of Gaza, is a war crime. Every human shield that is killed by Israeli self-defense measures is the responsibility of Hamas, but you wouldn't know that from watching the media coverage. The media is being manipulated. Hamas declared war on Israel calling for its complete destruction and is interpreting protest against Israel as pro-Palestinian and therefore are emboldened to continue fighting. The author of this report is decidedly pro-Israel, but the fact remains that Israel is using their technologically advanced military against what amounts to sticks and stones, by comparison. This situation is the result of Israel forcing Palestinians to live in a cramped strip of land and blockading food and medical supplies into the area. When Hamas fired their unsophisticated rockets at Israel as protest, Israel fought back with a lopsided and heavy-handed offense. This is what the world is protesting against.

POPSNo Surprise Here Hamas continues to lob bombs into Israel and then cries foul when Israel fights back... Now they won't go for a cease-fire unless all their demands are met. That is NOT negotiation, it is a continuation of criminal/terrorist behavior. If this were happening in our backyard we would not have had the patience or the restraint of the Israelis. Watching the demonstrations of TV - both sides - and hearing about all the different governments calling for a cease-fire I find one single element consistently missing: No one mentions how long Hamas has been pulling this crap and how many people they've killed and how much damage they have done. Why? Israel is a sovereign nation. They deserve to live in peace and occupy their land. So much for 'objective' reporting.

In fact, as Caroline Glick pointed out in The Jerusalem Post, the great man “speaks for himself” all the time — when he’s at the UN, calling on all countries to submit to Islam; when he’s presiding over his international conference of Holocaust deniers; when he’s calling for Israel to be “wiped off the map” — or (in his more “moderate” moments) relocated to a couple of provinces of Germany and Austria.
