POPSTeenage bombers are rescued from Taleban suicide training camps The Army believes that between 1,200 to 1,500 boys as young as 11 who were trained in Swat to become suicide bombers were recruited after the Pakistani Government signed a peace deal with the Taleban in February, handing over control of the valley to the militants. The agreement broke down after the Taleban started advancing on Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, which led to a military offensive that has all but driven the militants from the region. The boys were rescued after the Taleban were forced to abandon their camps. Many are still missing, however, having been sold to militants in other areas.

POPSi am not against religion,i am against religious hypocrisy they went on" I tend to be critical when so-called Christian right-wing extremists try to impose their views on the rest of us-especially when their agenda can hardly be called "Christian"- like "Christians" trying to justify torture-or use religion to justify a war of aggression. Or when closted homosexual "Christians" fight against gay right- - see Ted Haggard and Larry Craig. True Christians recognize that Jesus was all about love and kindness, tolerance and forgiveness- not war, hate, torturee, or knee-jerk sanctimony. More at source- they have a good point....

POPSThe Four Faces of the Bengal Tiger 15 April 2009: Displayed for the first time in a specially constructed studio in South Carolina, these images show the four varieties of Bengal tiger. "There are only four distinct types of Bengal tiger in the world and they are all in this amazing photo shoot," says Dr Bhagavan Antle of The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S), who brought these majestic animals to the studio. Dr Antle believes the images give away the characteristics of behaviour, age and personality of each tiger. "Like human photographs, you can see the difference in their age as some of them look a little more grizzled and haggard than others"

POPSThe New Christianity Is Sarah Palin's Cup-o'-Tea Long but fascinating article, here's a bit more: A New Reformation? This development has not gone wholly unnoticed. Here's how an Atlantic Monthly editor portentously introduced historian Philip Jenkins' October 2002 article, "The Next Christianity": We stand at a historical turning point, the author argues -- one that is as epochal for the Christian world as the original Reformation. Around the globe Christianity is growing and mutating in ways that observers in the West tend not to see. Tumultuous conflicts within Christianity will leave a mark deeper than Islam's on the century ahead. Jenkins accurately depicted the radical nature of the ‘religious revolution' underway which, he wrote, "one might equate with the Counter-Reformation." He also pegged its goal: restoring a global Christian church "filled with spiritual power and able to exorcise the demonic forces that cause sickness and poverty."

POPSBBC: "How scratching can stop an itch" "Although there is a long way to go, methods that can induce a pleasurable scratch sensation without damaging the skin, via mechanical stimuli or drugs that can inhibit these neurons, could be developed to treat chronic itch." However, Professor Yosipovitch stressed that scratching and itching were complex phenomena involving factors such as emotions as well as physiology. "The main open question is what happens in patients who suffer from chronic itch where scratching may actually aggravate itch perception." Professor Patrick Haggard, of University College London, said: "We all know that scratching helps alleviate itch, but this elegant study helps to show how this mechanism works. ... BBC

POPSDoes God Hate Homosexuals (there is a video at this link I could not clip for some reason - very worthwhile to watch) Gayle Haggard is a hero, in my opinion, and a great example of Christian love.

However, he said he has been undergoing therapy during the two years since and "working it out." Video Watch Haggard accuser speak out »

POPSGays And Lesbians AND Bisexuals Are God's Children Too As I watched Ted Haggard and his wife on Larry King tonight I wondered why he still chooses to refer to his orientation as a "sin." I wonder why he still chooses to use the words "dark thoughts" when referring to his desires for men. Of course, I never wondered why he married since our society had ZERO support for loving gay male relationships during his generation. It's hard enough for marriage to work out with societal support much less gay partnerships without any support from society. NEWS FLASH TED, that little voice in your head with those "dark" thoughts ain't going away, and futhermore you is not goin' to hell for your grievous sin of homosexuality. What really bugs the shit out of me is that Mr. Haggard is only reinforcing homophobia by his attempts to stigmatize homosexual behavior even further by labeling it a "sin." And that TED, is the sin.

POPSDisgraced pastor Haggard facing new sex allegations The church agreed to pay the man in exchange for his pledges not to talk publicly about the relationship, Boyd said, referring to a settlement reached by the man's lawyer and the church's insurance company. Under the settlement, the church provided the man money to pay his college tuition, moving expenses and counseling, Boyd said. "This was compassionate assistance. It was to help him move forward, not a settlement to keep him quiet," said Boyd, senior pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Video Watch Haggard in the HBO documentary

POPSDid NBC Risk Employee Lives in a Green Agenda Stunt? . . . And if we are successful, we will reach millions of Americans with the story in an unprecedented way. " Translation -- more sham eco shock and awe. The Race to Peak at the Peak By Monday, the team had ascended to Barranco at 13,000 feet. Another eight-hour climb on Tuesday brought them to Arrow Glacier at 15,700 feet, where they laid camp. But while Curry got a view of the mountain's ice cap, Today watchers were treated to one of a haggard looking reporter complaining that the entire crew was experiencing lethargy, severe headaches and fatigue. The acute altitude sickness they'd developed was also causing peripheral edema -- their faces and fingers were quite visibly swollen. And no wonder -- in a rush to summit the mountain for Friday's green week finale, they had broken all rules of altitude acclimatization, starting with Rule #1: Once above 10,000 feet, altitude should be increased no more than 1,000 feet per day.

POPSThe saddest of Madonna portraits :( It's hard to fathom of the grief of those whose babies are stillborn or die soon after birth. My heart goes out to them. I'm glad to see that these specialty photographers are handling their work with such sensitivity and are not charging the bereaved parents.

POPSZogby Pre-election Final: Obama 54, McCain 43 Nov 4 poll. Zogby is usually most accurate, we will see. Note that McCain has only 75 percent of conservative vote (even with Palin) , many bailed out on him. Republicans should make a careful note of this. As I clipped previously, McCain lost considerable "conservatives" and "moderates" from his party , and then gets romped by "independents" going to Obama (if this poll holds true). Moral: "If you stand for nothing you lose everything". I also believe the "fear tactics" backfired (while several issues are legitimate, including blatant communistic policies of Obama)--largely because of the LIES OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION casting its shadow over Republicans, which cause Fear tactics to be outright rejected now, without consideration. I received two robo-calls for McCain, one from Robert Duvall and another from a male country performer (Merle Haggard?). Desperate "get out the vote" moves, which people likely hang up on.
