Philip Dru: Administrator
willhelm
by willhelm  5-3-2009    2
This was said to be one of Woodrow Wilson's favorite books while serving as President. Combine this book with a book by Robert Pestritto called, 'Woodrow Wilson and the Roots of Modern Liberalism" to understand the blatant fascist agenda of the current Progressive Movement. The propagators of this trash should be seen as enemies of America, not our fellow citizens.

Stephen Fry and the Gutenberg Press
Lexica
by Lexica  11-1-2008    1
Great stuff. The printing press was the world's first mass-production machine. Its invention in the 1450s changed the world as dramatically as splitting the atom or sending men into space, sparking a cultural revolution that shaped the modern age. It is the machine that made us who we are today. Stephen…travels to France and Germany on the trail of Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press…Along the way he discovers the lengths Gutenberg went to keep his project secret, explores the role of avaricious investors and unscrupulous competitors, and discovers why printing mattered so much in medieval Europe. But to really understand the man and his machine, Stephen gets his hands dirty - assembling a team of craftsmen and helping them build a working replica of Gutenberg's original press. He learns how to make paper the 15th-century way and works as an apprentice in a metal foundry in preparation for the experiment to put the replica press through its paces.

Gutenberg - Revising What We Thought We Knew
Communicator
by Communicator  11-1-2008
Interesting findings on what Gutenberg did and didn't invent. Early in the article the researchers are quoted as having "subtle Eureka moments" as they began to make discoveries that contradicted what we thought Gutenberg actually invented.

Culture of secrecy and deception
sahara
by sahara  7-17-2008    1
US taxpayers are required to report all foreign financial accounts if their total value exceeds $10,000 at any point during a given year, prosecutors said. Failure to report the accounts can result in a penalty of up to 50 percent of the amount in the accounts. The report states that in some instances, UBS declined to report accounts to the IRS when clients opened them in the names of offshore corporations, trusts, foundations or other entities, even if the bank knew the true beneficial owners were US taxpayers. In Liechtenstein, the report said the royal family's LGT Group contributed to a "culture of secrecy and deception" that enabled clients to "evade US taxes, dodge creditors, and ignore court orders."
