POPSJudge tosses Blackwater case, cites gov't missteps
"We're obviously disappointed by the decision," Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said. "We're still in the process of reviewing the opinion and considering our options." Prosecutors can appeal the ruling. Blackwater contractors had been hired to guard U.S. diplomats in Iraq. The guards said insurgents ambushed them in a traffic circle. Prosecutors said the men unleashed an unprovoked attack on civilians using machine guns and grenades. The shooting led to the unraveling of the North Carolina-based company, which since has replaced its management and changed its name to Xe Services. The five guards are Donald Ball, a former Marine from West Valley City, Utah; Dustin Heard, a former Marine from Knoxville, Tenn.; Evan Liberty, a former Marine from Rochester, N.H.; Nick Slatten, a former Army sergeant from Sparta, Tenn., and Paul Slough, an Army veteran from Keller, Texas. Defense attorneys said the guards were thrilled by the ruling after more than two years of scruti

POPSMumbai Under Attack: November 28, 2008
35 photos-boston.com...Late Wednesday night, Mumbai, India found itself the target of a ferocious terrorist attack, and the situation remains unresolved even now, three days later. According to reports, upwards of 60 young men entered Mumbai in small inflatable boats on Wednesday night, carrying bags filled with weapons and ammunition, and spread out to nine locations to begin their attacks. Lobbing grenades and firing their weapons, they entered hotels, a railway station and several other buildings, killing scores and wounding even more. As of this moment, the identity of the attackers has yet to be definitively determined, though there are reports indicating some of the gunmen were Pakistani - at least nine of them have been killed, nine more arrested. As of this writing, there were a reported 151 people killed from 11 different countries - though nearly 100 were Indian. More than 300 injuries have also been reported - those numbers may yet rise as several hostage situations

POPSOur Tax Dollars At Work-Blackwater
More from the article as follows: "The Nisour Square shooting was the bloodiest and most controversial episode involving Blackwater in the Iraq war. At midday on Sept. 16, 2007, a Blackwater convoy opened fire on Iraqi civilians in the crowded intersection, spraying automatic weapons fire in ways that investigators later claimed was indiscriminate, and even launching grenades into a nearby school. Seventeen Iraqis were killed and dozens more were wounded." "Those responses deeply worried Blackwater officials. Before the Nisour Square shootings, the company had operated in Iraq without a license largely because the Iraqi government had never enforced the rules. Being blocked from the country would have been costly — the State Department deal was Blackwater’s single biggest contract. From 2004 through today, the company has collected more than $1.5 billion for its work protecting American diplomats and providing air transportation for them inside Iraq." "

POPSThe Victims of Fort Hood
According to an officer who served with him at Walter Reed Hospital, Hasan spoke approvingly of the shooting of Army recruiters this past summer by a Muslim convert in Little Rock, Arkansas. Authorities also investigated Hasan as long as six months ago for internet postings discussing suicide bombings and other attacks, though they have not yet determined definitively if he was the author of those posts. One of those posts was a blog entry that deified suicide bombers as being similar to soldiers who throw themselves on hand grenades in order to save the lives of their fellow soldiers. A cousin, Nader Hasan, builds a picture of the shooter as a bullied Muslim who was a good person who did not even like weapons, was conflicted about his military service, and was against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But postings that are thought to be Major Hasan’s don’t match the portrait of a soldier who was conflicted. They present us with a picture of someone who housed beliefs that

POPSGOP member shoots target with Democratic opponent's initials More: Many of the targets were basic silhouettes, though others were figures wearing traditional Arab head scarves, called kaffiyeh, and holding rocket-propelled grenades. Napolitano said the faces of those figures appeared to be white, though he understood why they would be assumed to be Arabs. He said critics of the event are simply angry that a Republican minority continues to exist in such an overwhelmingly Democratic area. "I absolutely have no regrets. I don't care what the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee or any of them say — I know that they're offended by the simple fact that we're here and we won't go away and we won't be quiet," he said. "For the Democrats, who are supposed to be the party of minority rights, they're not being very sensitive to our rights." These people live in bizarro backwards-world, I swear.

POPS8 Troops Killed In Afghanistan; Remote Outposts Attacked Nuristan, bordering Pakistan, was where a militant raid on another outpost in July 2008 claimed the lives of nine American soldiers and led to allegations of negligence by their senior commanders. Army Gen. David Petraeus last week ordered a new investigation into that fighting, in which some 200 militants armed with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars pushed their way into the base, which is no longer operating. The region was key for Arab militants who battled alongside Afghan warriors during the 1980s U.S.-backed war against invading Russians because it is a rare place in South Asia where the Wahhabi sect of Islam is practiced – the same sect followed by Osama bin Laden and most Saudis.

POPSU.S. Aid to Honduras Moves Toward Formal Cut Off
Where's The Thanks? Posted 08/21/2009 INVESTOR.com Allies: Tiny Honduras last week handed over a Syrian death merchant to face justice in the U.S. That's right: The same 'coup-government' the Obama administration reviles is one of the very few helping us fight terror. As shadowy moneymen in the terror underworld go, not many are as unsavory as Jamal Yousef, an ex-Syrian military man turned terrorist arms supplier. Three years ago in Honduras, undercover U.S. agents caught him trying to sell 100 AR-15 assault rifles, 100 M-16 assault rifles, 10 M-60 machine guns, C-4 explosives, 2,500 hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenades and as many as 18 surface-to-air missiles to Colombia's FARC Marxist narcoterrorists. His price? A ton of cocaine, something he knew how to "move." Honduran cops put him away for petty charges, but he did only three years in prison that ended this week. Instead of letting him walk, the Honduran government put him on a plane bound for New York

POPSCentral American Ally Extradites Syrian Terrorist to U.S., Kicked Under The Bus It's awesome to watch 30 years of cooperation disintegrate in a couple of months because President Jesus can't be bothered to comprehend a few messy details like sovereignty, constitutional law, or a small friendly nation struggling against a tide of Marxism to self-determine. Posted by Dave in Texas Where's The Thanks? The extradition was noteworthy because Honduras has been blasted by Obama administration officials over what it claims is a coup around the Honduran Supreme Court's removal of former President Mel Zelaya, a Chavista leftist who on June 28 illegally tried to extend his term in office. The Obama administration presumes to know Honduran law better than the Honduran Supreme Court and has yanked visas of Honduran officials, condemned the tiny country in the United Nations and the Organization of American States, and refused to recognize anyone in the current government.

POPS'Joystick' Warfare Brings Ethics Debate--UAVs and Other Robotic Weapons Robo-warfare is making it too easy to wage arbitrary war, and is by historical standards cowardly , usually entailing overkill to achieve a limited target (like swatting mosquitos with hand grenades. Can you say "collateral damage"?). To bring no risk to warfare is to undermine the principle of Just War, where people voluntarily enter into war upon principles of justice (self defense), and risk their own lives bravely and willingly. Sending robots risks nothing, and makes unjust war a no-risk situation, and therefore too easy to begin. Also there is the danger factor where human judgment may be lacking instead of a programmed response, without the ability to correct or withdraw destructive actions. Ask the civilians in Afghanistan or Pakistan what they think of drone (Predator) UAV bombing flights so far. More civilians have been killed than 'terrorists".

POPSLaw Says Lighters are a Child Endangerment This is in the category of "Legislation for your own good". Why make a law to not sell something that is/was already legal? Why not just put responsibility on the owner of the lighter, or make it a law to keep it in your pocket or purse? What happened to the constitutional rights of citizens? Remember Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Some of these items are collectibles as well. I am just so fed up with this petty legislation. When I here how backlogged the Oregon Legislature is all of the time, it really gets my blood boiling to think of what are they really doing down there in Salem? We have some real issues to deal with here. And don't smokers have enough to deal with, without telling us what we can or cannot light up with? Good grief! If you have kids, keep your guns, hand grenades, matches, machetes, firecrackers, and lighters away from them. Thank You.

POPSNanny State Goes To War Anyway, some targeted warnings should probably be sufficient. Sort of like “Government Warning: Smoking in combat can be hazardous to your health.” Or … Government Warning: Tobacco is the other leading cause of chest wounds that suck. Government Warning: Dip sinks lips. Government Warning: Hey GI, cancer has you in its crosshairs. Government Warning: Good luck claiming your emphysema is service-related. Government Warning: First, second and third man on the match get their lungs removed! Government Warning: Cancer, the over-the-horizon killer. Government Warning: Smoking, the silent but deadly way of killing a man they didn’t teach you in basic training. Government Warning: Tobacco, when you absolutely, positively want to die horribly in 25 years. Hey, those aren’t bad, though the last one may sound like good odds in some circumstances. POPSMuslims Riot in Greece Greece was occupied by the Ottoman (muslim) Empire for over 400 years. The local pashas would, for Sunday morning sport, pick out a Greek at random in the villages and hang him or her in the town square. They closed schools and churches, and to educate children was punishable by death. When Greece finally successfully revoted and gained their independence, defeating the hated muslim enemy, they burned all the mosques and those that they didn't destroy they turned into cafes and cabarets. Now over a hundred years later, the Greeks have forgotten all this, and a new Grand mosque has been constructed near Athens. To let muslims into a Christian country is to introduce a blight... a cancer. Shame on Greece. Shame on Europe. and Shame on all of us. I say turn the bulldozers loose on the mosques and force these lunatics to return to the pest holes from which they originated.
