POPSHope 'n' Change: The Obama Auto Show
Nowhere in our nation's governing document can one find a presidential power to regulate the minutiae of private business, much less take ownership of those private businesses. Yet that is how Barack Obama is wielding his ever-increasing power, despite taking an oath to "faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and ... to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." "President Barack Obama announced plans on Tuesday for a national fuel-economy and greenhouse-gas standard that would significantly increase mileage requirements for cars and trucks by 2016," Politico reports. The fuel standards will require that automakers reach an industry average of 35.5 miles per gallon within just seven years. The current average is 25 mpg. Congress is working on legislation for $25 billion in further loans to the auto industry to pay for the change, which will likely cost upwards of $100 billion.

POPSCoal: America's Polluter I keep seeing these crappy ads touting coal as America's Power. No matter how they spin it, the stuff is not only huge pollution, but the runoffs and all the mining causes more damage to this planet. They must have a VERY large set of lobbyist pushing to keep coal moving forward. LIving in PA and being from old coal town, I can say that once these companies rape the earth of coal, they pack up and move to rape another region and pollute it in the process. We need to shut down coal and start looking for better ways Wind, Solar, etc to save the planet. The coal industry only cares about the $$ it can reap, nothing more than that, just as bad as oil.

POPSObama's Bad Example I really do not like this man. He will turn our Country into a servant of all things regressive while claiming to be a leader of environmentalism/recyclalism/global protectionism. He'll milk our resources for the betterment of the World instead of increasing our resource capacity for the benefit of the World. Oh, that he may be a McGovern.

POPSUSAF Test Flight Blend Of Jet Fuel + Coal-Based 'Synfuel' While synthetic fuel has the capacity to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, it could also double CO2 emissions produced by military flight. At the time of this writing, synfuel is made via Fischer-Tropsch process from either coal or natural gas to produce a somewhat cleaner burning but extremely greenhouse-gas intensive product. The Air Force may be underscoring a recently hyped green image, but it seems that economic considerations are largely at play here.

POPSCalifornia Sues the EPA I never understood why there are regulations on automobile emissions. The manufacturers will comply with market demand. If I want to purchase a car that gets 5 mpg, so be it. If California want to all cars in its state to get 150mpg, so be it. It is a state and it has the rights to create such a law. There will be even more horse shit in California as they convert back to horses for transportation.

POPSSulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) In addition (though without personal experience i.e. don't try this at home kids) I have heard that it has the opposite effect of Helium on the voice, making it very deep after inhalation .

POPSSave the Environment, eat a PB&J sandwich Dude! A PB&J will save land. Have a PB&J and save 12 to 50 square feet of land from deforestation, over-grazing, and pesticide and fertilizer pollution. How to Help an Animal at Lunch Saving water, fighting global warming, and preserving habitat are all great reasons to have a PB&J for lunch, but, if you like animals, there's the added benefit of not killing them. It takes about 16 PB&J sandwiches to save a chicken's life, for example.

POPSSharing Data Visualization: data on fast food, Jesus' apostles, greenhouse-gas trends, and more Within days of Many Eyes going live, the researchers saw a big spike in traffic from a user-generated visualization. A user named "crossway" had uploaded a data set of names from the New Testament and how often they occurred near one another in the text. The user chose to visualize the data using a network diagram; the result was essentially an illustration of the social network of Jesus and his apostles.
