Man-made eruptions – 'Plan B' in the battle for the planet - #climate #geo-engineering
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  9-2-2009
Giving scientific researchers 10 million to do blue-sky geo-engineering research is not much for a Plan B considering the calamitous concsequences of green house gas emmissions. Plan A to be negotiated at Copenhagen is also totally inadequate because it is predicated on the assumption that people can keep on living as they are: driving, flying, consuming. Too bad that so few of us will even entertain Plan C(onsciousness) which is to change our purpose in life. If everybody's primary purpose in life was nurture and support nature, rather than exploit it for themselves, there might just be a chance. And even if there is no chance, at least we would end up doing the right thing. Virtue is its own reward.

Phantosmia - Illusory Sense of Smell
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  8-15-2009
It's all in my head  Aromatheraphy has a premise based around the fact that "smell" is our most primal sense. Animals "smell" fear humans have lost connection with this valuable sense and in this case it can become distorted, just like the fear mechanism, which originally is meant to move us out of danger and into safety. Yet, for many people this mechanism works overtime, even when there is no immediate danger. Is it any wonder that the effects of the chemicals released via the "adrenals" is having such a devastating effect on many people's health?

Global Warming Bill

by jay8h  6-25-2009
My electric company advised that the cost to "clean up" would cost each customer $1100 per year. I don't know about the rest of our service providers, but this won't be cheap. It will cost us all. Our air where we live, has been clean for years now. What's the problem?

The Great Green Con: Labour's climate measures mainly hot air
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  4-20-2009
The Labour Government is spinning itself and the rest of us into a disaster. The result is liable to be an ironic combination of energy shortages and increased green house gas emissions. Is it not possible to legislate against lying? Even it not in Labour's interest, couldn't the other Parties make it an issue.

The family dairy
leeetmiller
by leeetmiller  3-7-2009
The Modern dairy is once again within reach of the farming family. By taking the best of of many different systems that cut the cost and time required to do the job, and do it very efficiently with out stress on both the cows and the worker doing the milking. Manpower and hours to do the job are greatly reduced. Think green here. This is truly a stand alone system. The cow produces everything thats needed. How? Ask and we will tell you.

No $$ for you
sillysam

Democrats are suggesting, however, an even more ambitious reason to nationalize. Once the government owns Detroit, it can remake it. The euphemism here is “retool” Detroit to make cars for the coming green economy. If you think we have economic troubles today, consider the effects of nationalizing an industry of this size, but now run by bureaucrats issuing production quotas to fit five-year plans to meet politically mandated fuel-efficiency standards — to lift us to the sunny uplands of the coming green utopia.

Recent Research Indicate Biofuels Will Exacerbate Global Warming
merrie
by merrie  2-10-2008
These plant-based fuels were originally billed as better than fossil fuels because the carbon released when they were burned was balanced by the carbon absorbed when the plants grew. But even that equation proved overly simplistic because the process of turning plants into fuels causes its own emissions — for refining and transport, for example. The clearance of grassland releases 93 times the amount of greenhouse gas that would be saved by the fuel made annually on that land, said Joseph Fargione, lead author of the second paper, and a scientist at the Nature Conservancy. “So for the next 93 years you’re making climate change worse, just at the time when we need to be bringing down carbon emissions.” In a letter to President Bush and the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, urging a reform of biofuels policies. “We write to call your attention to recent research indicating that many anticipated biofuels will actually exacerbate global warming,” the letter said.

Global warming - models based on history
Togo
by Togo  8-9-2007    3
Facts and figures we should all be aware of!! Yet how many of us are changing our lifestyles, both in the home and at the corporate level, to reduce these greenhouse gas emissions and the dire consequences that will follow? One may ask what point is there changing your habits when countries, such as China, continue to spew it. Beijing was shrouded in smog during the 'celebrations' in the 12 month lead up to the 2008 Olympic Games. Is this all going to change in the next year?

Desperation Of Mad Scientists About Global Warming
Sorgalim
by Sorgalim  3-18-2007    2
Other ideas under consideration include constructing a sun shield made up of hundreds of thousands of reflectors or building a sulfur-spewing volcano to reflect the sun’s rays, preventing them from reaching the earth. These ideas haven’t been fully formulated Many fear there will be unintended side effects; others worry such schemes might prevent the type of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that scientists say are the only real way to fight global warming. These approaches are not an alternative to cutting pollution, said University of Calgary professor David Keith, a top geoengineering researcher. These solutions aren't cheap or easy, but they could help hold off warming even if we do manage to cut emissions.
