POPSGreen technology creating 'green collar' jobs I stand strongly behind my belief that if this country committed ourselves to becoming energy independent with the same determination that we committed to putting a man on the moon, that we could do it and we could create millions of new jobs in the process. It would be an enormous driver of economic growth and strengthen our leverage in the Middle East because we would no longer be reliant on their oil.

POPSDubai's Dynamic Tower An Italian architect has unveiled plans to create a 'Dynamic Tower' - the world's first revolving skyscraper. Each floor rotates independently at different speeds, resulting in a unique and ever evolving shape. The tower is environmentally friendly, with the ability to generate electricity for itself as well as other buildings nearby.

POPSFurther evidence of shocking Chinese practices You won't see these dastard actions on the TV as China tries to portray an image of being a leading progressive nation. The reality is somewhat different - China is a country full of abuses on environment, animals, social injustice, etc!

POPSPorridge: A Good Source of Energy For Your Body & Your Factory A FIFE factory is to become one of Scotland’s greenest when it begins generating all its own energy from oat husks. Quaker, which produces Scott’s Porage Oats at its Uthrogle Mills plant near Cupar, is to invest £6 million in a combined heat and power biomass boiler which will make it carbon neutral. The husks, removed from the oats during the milling process, will provide 9,709 MWhrs of electricity and 10,902 MWhrs of steam a year, reducing its emissions by 9,000 tonnes a year. “This innovative approach by Quaker to cut carbon emissions through investment in new low carbon technology will be a powerful signal to other businesses that reducing carbon emissions and looking for sustainable energy sources makes business sense.”

POPSIKEA Village: A Community of Affordable Pre-Fab Homes Ikea is currently building a village of pre-fab homes in the UK: Creating a community of affordable homes. These homes will be like nothing else seen before in the UK and will play an important role in helping first-time buyers who have until now been unable to get on the property ladder due to the spiralling costs of buying a house. While Ikea will market the houses, Live Smart @ Home will build them. It will ask buyers to prove they are within the set income bracket and to register their interest online. Demand is expected to be so high that a lottery will then determine who becomes the first "Ikea villagers".

POPS7 Eco-Resolutions for 2008: I Will Try To Live Green Do you really need berries from Chile? Don't collect stuff you will never use. If you trash those once-new goodies when you’re no longer interested in them, they will live in a landfill for years and years. Cut the power to your electronics by plugging them in to a power strip and flipping the switch to off when you’re not watching or listening. Public transportation use saves 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline each year, and can reduce household expenses by $6,200. Plastic bags are made from petroleum and only about 1 percent of the estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion Annie Bell plastic bags consumed worldwide are recycled each year. Most end up in landfills (wherethey take perhaps 1000 years to decompose) or in the sea. By purchasing recycled paper products you’re preventing trees from being chopped down, and paper waste from ending up in landfills. In addition, less energy and water is required to produce a recycled paper product.

POPSPollution in China
"It was only when pollution literally started to bloom across the lakes of China earlier this summer that the country's leaders finally sounded full alarm on the environment. Blue-green algae blooms choked Lake Taihu - China's third biggest source of freshwater - in May, forcing 5 million people to use bottled water for drinking and bathing. "Soon after, local media were reporting outbreaks across the country. Rancid blooms contaminated Dianchi Lake in southwestern China, then Xinlicheng reservoir, the main source of water for Changchun - a northern city of almost 3 million people. In every case, pollution - either from factories, fertilizer or untreated sewage - was to blame. "Algae blooms are nature's response to discharges of nitrogen and phosphorus. Grown to excess, they choke waterways of oxygen, killing fish and fouling the air with a putrid smell. When prime minister Wen Jiabao visited Lake Taihu, he reportedly described it as an environmental wake-up call to the nation."

POPSThe Wal*Mart "Category" Killer Article. This is an old 2003 article, but I think its worth reading again. This talks about selling too much to one customer...and making a deal with the devil in doing so. This doesnt just apply to Walmart and i think since 2003 Walmart has realized it has the power to kill its vendors. (which helps nobody.) Certainly it did not motivate vendors to help WM with their RFID initiative.
