EPA Rules Farm Dust NOT SAFE, Must Be Regulated
merrie
by merrie  10-30-2009    2
But the U.S. District Court of Appeals in Washington ruled Tuesday that the EPA had already provided the evidence necessary to determine farm dust "likely is not safe." Michael Formica, a lawyer for the pork council, said this means farmers now face the daunting task of proving a negative - that the dust is not harmful. Formica said his and other groups will consider a further appeal. Farmers said they will be hard-pressed to meet the standards. In a letter sent Wednesday to the EPA, Grassley wrote that compliance would be impossible because of the dust produced in farmers' day-to-day activities. Grassley also has noted that because many rural roads are not paved, particulate readings could be affected by wind gusts that constantly change. "After all, God decides when the wind blows, not Chuck Grassley," he said. But the EPA said the regulation was overdue. http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/030109/bus_399791974.shtml

What's YOURS is EVERYONES
kareval
by kareval  10-28-2009    7
There are fundamental differences between the philosophies of Republicans and Democrats. There exists certain core beliefs about the role of government and the individual that are as different as night and day. Republicans believe it is the people who should have the freedom to determine their own destiny, free from overdue government intervention, regulation and control. They believe in lower taxes and smaller government. Republicans believe in "home rule," allowing local governments, closest to the people to have the loudest voice. Republicans believe that government exists to serve the people in the ways the private sector cannot. They believe in "the velocity of money," that is to say, they believe that every time a dollar changes hands privately, it helps the overall economy and creates more revenue through taxes to the government. Democrats, and more specifically the current administration, believe that it is the role of government to "care for" the population in every r

Obama’s Energy Czar: Socialist Agent For World Government Socialist International
merrie
by merrie  10-18-2009    1
Barack Obama’s “climate czar" Carol Browner has been exposed as being a member of Socialist International, a highly influential group headed by a Bilderberg Group luminary that calls for the implementation of global government, despite Socialist International’s attempts to seemingly “memory-hole” information about Browner on their website. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that Obama and his cabinet are preparing to exploit fearmongering about global warming to push new measures of taxation, regulation and internationalism. Obama himself has vigorously promoted the revival of a bill that would slash carbon emissions by 80 per cent, a move that would inflict a new Great Depression, cost millions of jobs, and sink America to near third world status. Obama has also publicly stated his intention to create a new infrastructure of “green brigades” and informants to regulate every aspect of our behavior in the name of saving in the name of saving . . .

Pennsylvania ‘Firearms Freedom Act’ Legislation Introduced
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  10-11-2009    1
While the bill seems to focus solely on federal gun regulations, it has far more to do with the 10th Amendment’s limit on the power of the federal government. It specifically states: The regulation of intrastate commerce is vested in the states under the 9th and 10th Amendments to the Constitution of the United States, particularly if not expressly preempted by federal law. Congress has not expressly preempted state regulation of intrastate commerce pertaining to the manufacture on an intrastate basis of firearms, firearms accessories, and ammunition. Rohrer, in a recent letter to Pennsylvania House Members, addressed the issue of the commerce clause... Read more here

Big Government's Intrusion Into Blogger Content, Free Speech
merrie
by merrie  10-6-2009    1
Decisions about violations will be made on a case-by-case basis, but if someone receives cash or an in-kind payment to review a product, it’s considered an endorsement. The government is attempting to put all website, both personal and professional, under its thumb under the guise of protecting consumers from dishonest bloggers and bloggers from dishonest companies. It shows a lack of faith in both the public and the blogging community which has been doing just fine and doesn’t welcome the bureaucracy. This is all about the Benjamins in the name of regulation. Uncle Sam saw a way to make money while controlling speech. I myself receive free items regularly and it’s always been my own personal policy to disclose this, which I have. I’ve refused offers from companies who’ve suggested that I act otherwise. I created this self-policing policy because I, like most other bloggers, realize that our reputations are virtual currency.

If I were in their position I too would be outraged. Half of the Doctors I have talked too are not even recommending for their patients and certainly our pediatricians are saying not to get the H1N1 for our kids, which we had not planned to do anyway. If I was these doctors and nurses I would just not get it as the state is just asking for a huge shortage of nurses and docs by doing this. Society needs the nurses and docs, they don't necessarily need to stay at these jobs.

"Architects of Ruin"
merrie
by merrie  9-24-2009    1
throw out common sense and decades of experience in order to make loans that were almost certain to go unpaid. The effort was launched during the Carter administration but really gained momentum and a head of steam during the Clinton years. (GOPers shouldn't feel too smug as the Bush administration continued and even expanded the practice). "Architects of Ruin" can be advance-ordered now on Amazon.com. No doubt, it will generate a flood of negative reviews from liberals in the mainstream media and their allies in the political and academic worlds in part because of sensational tidbits like the fact White House Chief of Staff was paid "more than $46,000 an hour as a board member for Freddie Mac ." What caught my eye today, though, concerns a little known fact about a long-forgotten class-action lawsuit filed in 1994 by three young trial lawyers, one of whom just happens to be sitting in the Oval Office today as president.

Obama Push For 'World' Regulation
merrie
by merrie  9-19-2009    1
Obama said lobbyists for financial institutions are already fighting against new regulations. “We cannot let the narrow interests of a few come before the interests of all of us,” Obama said. “We cannot forget how close we came to the brink, and perpetuate the broken system and breakdown of responsibility that made it possible.” In the Republican address, North Carolina Representative Sue Myrick focused on Obama’s health-care proposals, which are being debated in Congress. She said the plan being offered by Obama and congressional Democrats would lead to government-run insurance and that would mean delays in care. Access to Care “Every family that confronts a serious illness should have access to the highest-quality care at the lowest possible cost, with no delays,” Myrick said. Obama has said he favors a government-run insurance program to compete with private insurers. While he has suggested he wouldn’t make it a requirement as part of final legislation,

A well-regulated...
kmcolo
by kmcolo  9-1-2009
I am, in general, a liberal free-marketeer. Light and efficient government regulation is needed and in some sectors more of it than in others, but taken in a gross overall picture, I tend to agree with the maxim "the less government the better". It seems the Japanese have just decided to take a different route. I for one still think the "American model" with some adjustments for context is more honest, at a genetic level, to the human experience and thus is more likely to promote innovative solutions to problems. But I also know that, in nature, diversity is resilience so perhaps it is good that the Japanese have decided on a different course. One that, perhaps, fits their context better than the "American model" (or what they took to be the "American model") did. We will see how this plays out now that history has restarted its engines.

The Joker Doesn’t Seem To Understand Competition, So He Will Prohibit It
merrie
by merrie  8-27-2009
In place of the variety of products that competition would generate, we would be forced “choose” among virtually identical insurance plans. Government would define these plans down to the last detail. Every one would have at least the same “basic” coverage, including physical exams, maternity benefits, well-baby care, alcoholism treatment, and mental-health services. Consumers could not buy a cheap, high-deductible catastrophic policy. Every insurance company would have to use an identical government-designed pricing structure. Prices would be the same for sick and healthy. In this respect, it wouldn’t matter whether or not Congress created a “public option,” a government insurance plan. In either case, bureaucrats would dictate virtually every aspect of the health-insurance business. What Obama says in favor of a public option " as of today, at least " tells us how little he understands competition.
