Now they prove the Holy Quran to be right. Muslims always rejected the 4 gospels. They only believe in one true gospel. The Christians are coming closer.

Usability testing story from an indie game
emeraldsong
by emeraldsong  8-15-2008
This article follows the story of one creator's user feedback and subsequent usability test. I think it highlights the problems found in AAA game development with focus tests where the write-up is taken as gospel, but the devs don't do the deep-listening part of sitting with the players guaging what the root of their problems are. I can't summarise a whole story in clipmarks' 1000 character limit. I'll write some more context here, so if the source page goes offline in the future there'll be enough material. Before the clipped quote starts, the author explains that he got user feedback via phone and e-mail, the strongest message to come through which was requests for an "undo" function. Instead of staying crestfallen at this request, he sets up a live test party. The changes made to the game which aren't clipped: Slow the main character down ... even slower when pushing obstacles Take out death-water Add waypoints that allow the player to restart without needing to repla

Australia's Hillsong Church and the "beauty gospel" for teenage girls
enbar
by enbar  8-2-2008
In Australia, a church-run program for troubled teenage girls emphasizes "natural make-up, hair care, nail care" as a way of discovering girls' "created uniqueness." Peculiar.

The Golden Rule and the Separation of Church and State
laceym
by laceym  7-25-2008    2
by Rev. Michael Helms, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Moultrie, Georgia. In Franklin County, Idaho, the Mormon population is 91.5 percent. In Utah County, Utah, it is 88.1 percent. If your job transferred you to one of these counties and you sent your child to a public school, would you object if the teacher began class by reading from the Book of Mormon each day? Well, obviously not if you are Mormon. If you are of any other religion or none at all, chances are good you would object.

Five People Reality Shows Hurt The Most
debbyski
by debbyski  7-24-2008    5
"And we don't want them to be obsessed with watching Tila Tequila to see if she's ultimately going to choose a guy or a girl to be her partner, either. Boys have plenty of time to learn about bisexuality; they do not need some MySpace whore in a sting bikini and stripper heels encouraging them to think about girls on girls. They'll waste enough time thinking about that when they're good and ready." My sentiments about Tila EXACTLY. Bi's already have enough stigmas to deal with!! Thanks to "The Bachelorette," little girls grow up seeing that if they can't find a husband on their own, they can just go on TV and make out with 25 different hot guys to magically find their Prince Charmings." *sigh* Moral of this story? Children are not small adults but adults can be small children sometimes.

The Throw-Away Culture: Do you Own your Stuff?
urbanlife
by urbanlife  7-16-2008    1
Our new economy may be just the motivation people need to stop and think before they toss. If something breaks our first instinct is to throw it away and buy it new, instead of trying to fix it. But even if we wanted to fix it, manufacturers have made it difficult for us to repair, re-use or upgrade our stuff. Mr. Jalopy urges technology companies to create forums for consumers to share ideas, and pushes car companies to sell patterns so people can create accessories like seat covers....he wants companies to make schematics readily available so consumers can fix and re-imagine the objects they buy.

It's Not Yours, It's God's
sahara

"It's not yours, it's God's, and you're not going to get it," Copeland says of his financial records. He has launched a website to publicize his crusade and has received support from several leading conservatives, including Paul Weyrich and Kenneth Blackwell. Incredible! And tax free!
