MYG | Don't compare her to Sarah or Arnold
altaloman
by altaloman  Today 4:14 PM
By Sara Libby | SLATE.COM | "Whitman is instead billing herself as something few women could plausibly pull off: the future "CEO of California." In this way, she is the anti-Sarah Palin. She's no 40-something pinup, but she finished high school in three years and entered the Harvard Business School at 21. In the corporate world, she is known for her competence and cunning. Instead of talking about her political experience, she talks about her business expertise"years of working on branding at Procter & Gamble, Bain, Hasbro, and Disney, all of which led her to create the "Country First" slogan for John McCain's presidential campaign, of which she was national co-chair. Her campaign revolves around the GOP standbys of tax cuts, deregulation, and gutting welfare as the keys to recovery." ___ SOURCE | http://googlelabs.twi.bz/3 ___ SEARCH | http://google.twi.bz/sA __ MYG | MY GOV WATCH | My iWEB Blogs | http://me.twi.bz/p ___ ALTACITIES | http://altacities.com | http://me.twi.bz/X

Obama Sets Trap for Republicans
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 10:12 PM
No matter what the Democrats say to the Republicans or anything that they try to put in there, it would only be a lie. They would sneak things in that none of us want. I believe we should wait until all of them are voted out. We get people in there who care about America and believe in the Constitution and then we can listen to them about health care. RUSH: Absolutely right. Absolutely right. The Republicans ought not get suckered by this and go anywhere near it. CALLER: Say "no!" RUSH: Say "hell, no!" Hill Leaders Welcome Summit Idea
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 9:46 PM
"Obviously, I am pleased that the White House finally seems interested in a real, bipartisan conversation on health care," he said. "The problem with the Democrats’ health care bills is not that the American people don’t understand them; the American people do understand them, and they don't like them." Congressional Republicans have largely resisted the Democratic effort to write health care legislation. Only one Republican member voted for the House bill when it passed in November. No Republicans voted for the Senate bill during procedural motions or on final passage.

Daily Presidential Tacking Poll
kareval
by kareval  2-7-2010
As the federal budget debate heats up, just 35% of voters realize that most federal spending goes to just three areas: National Defense, Social Security, and Medicare. Check out our review of last week’s key polls to see “What They Told Us.” The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook. Overall, 44% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. That matches the lowest level of overall approval yet measured for this president. Fifty-five percent (55%) now disapprove. The first review of Scott Rasmussen’s new book said “In Search of Self-Governance promises to be the type of provocative and compelling tome for the decade to come that The Third Wave and The Tipping Point were in decades past.” Larry Sabato calls it a “thought-pro

The Kennedy Dynasty Continues to Crumble
merrie
by merrie  2-6-2010    1
The Kennedy political dynasty is shaking in the aftershock of U.S. Sen. Scott Brown’s earth-shattering election, with a new poll showing U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy losing ground as he faces a well-financed GOP foe backed by Brown’s top strategists. Last year Ted Kennedy, Jr. was asked if he had decided whether or not to run for public office, and he replied “I haven’t crossed that bridge yet.” Um, okaayy. I’ll take that as a “no” then. But driving skill genetics aside, Scott Brown’s win and Patrick Kennedy’s decline might force the whole family completely out of politics and back into bootlegging booze. Update: Patrick Kennedy says that Scott Brown’s election is “a joke.” Obviously Patrick hasn’t seen the above polling number yet or he’d be distracted by an even funnier one.  Campbell leads GOP rivals, trails Boxer in senate race The poll pictures Campbell as the strongest GOP candidate, following Boxer with only 4 points at 45-41 percent. According to the poll, Boxer leads Fiorina, 48-40, and Devore, 47-39. The three Republicans lead Boxer in the Central Valley, the poll found. Campbell is more libertarian that traditional conservative. He is considered liberal on social issues such as abortion and gay marriage, but a strong defender of free enterprise. According to his website, his faculty advisor was Dr. Milton Friedman when he studied for a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. http://bit.ly/ai3TI1 http://www.examiner.com

Demand Question Time!
schreibe
by schreibe  2-3-2010
This would be a very good initiative. We should all sign-in with our demands for a "Question Time" that will put the process directly in front of the public with open discussion and with an "educational" back and forth airing of the issues. It would be a sharp contrast to Fox News "Fair and Balanced" routine. I think that our democracy is in trouble if we don't get the public educated on the FACTS of the issues, and I think that Obama is very capable in this regard.

Man, what just happened? It’s almost impossible to comprehend. The most liberal state in the union just elected a Republican to Ted Kennedy’s seat? It’s like Massachusetts just abandoned Ted Kennedy in a car at the bottom of a river. This is the most devastating blow to a political party in my lifetime. So the clear message from America to Obama is, “You suck at everything you do. Please stop doing things. We’re sorry we ever met you." After this, it’s safe to predict that liberals will never, ever, win an election again, ever.

The Republicans' Reagan Amnesia
ratilfar
by ratilfar  2-2-2010    12
And what were those principles, exactly? No. 1—according to the resolution—was “smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes.” Let’s take those from the top. Smaller government: Federal employment grew by 61,000 during Reagan’s presidency—in part because Reagan created a whole new cabinet department, the department of veterans affairs. (Under Bill Clinton, by contrast, federal employment dropped by 373,000). Smaller deficits and debt: Both nearly tripled on Reagan’s watch. Lower taxes: Although Reagan muscled through a major tax cut in 1981, he followed up by raising taxes in 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1986. In 1983, in fact, he not only raised payroll taxes; he raised them to pay for Social Security and Medicare. Let’s put this in language today’s tea-baggers can understand: Reagan raised taxes to pay for government-run health care.

Under GOP/McCain Record Deficits Would Have Happened - Reports McCain's Top Campaign Advisor
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  2-1-2010
In December 2009, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities concluded that the then-$1.4 trillion annual deficit run by the government under Obama had much to do with the Bush administration's package of tax cuts, the wars it launched in Iraq and Afghanistan and its response to the recession. Those findings mirrored a report released a month earlier by the Democratic-leaning Center for American Progress -- which concluded that much of the deficit was owed to the decrease in tax receipts the federal government was receiving as a result of the recession.

Lech Walesa: ‘America Is Moving Toward Socialism’
merrie
by merrie  2-1-2010    1
Lech Walesa Agrees America Is Moving Toward Socialism If there is any man on earth who knows what socialism is, it is Lech Walesa On Friday, January 29th, 2010, Lech Walesa, former President of Poland, traveled to Chicago to endorse Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate, Adam Andrzejewski. We were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to sit down with the President and Mr. Andrzejewski. Our video from that visit is below. Items that stand out: 1) Lech Walesa tells his American Audience that the United States no longer leads the world politically or morally 2) At least one of your Founding Bloggers asks President Walesa if he thinks America is slipping toward Socialism. His Answer? Yes! 3) Andrzejewski is running on a platform of forensically auditing Illinois’ books and exposing corruption by making the details of the audit available to the public.

$6 Billion Payoff: Barney Frank Gives In To Congressional Black Caucus Shakedown Crew

“For those of us who walked out, it was absolutely essential that we have parts of that legislation directed toward helping people who have been left out of all of these bailouts,” Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., one of 10 black caucus members in the Financial Services Committee, said…Among the caucus’ demands were greater assistance for minority-owned auto dealerships and banks that lend in African-American communities and more government advertising in minority-owned media. No word on how much of a cut the wealthy minority businessman Percy Sutton will get. Or whether corruptocrat Maxine Waters’ favorite bank, OneUnited, will snag an even bigger share of TARP funds from this new deal. Rremember: she has already finagled $12 million in TARP money for OneUnited, one of her key campaign donors and a company in which both Waters and her husband own massive amounts of stock. Mark Penn got his. The CBC’s got to get theirs. Power to the people!

I was so upset when this O'Keefe and his criminals did something similar at the ACORN, ‘Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now’ headquarters. And I couldn't believe how easily our politicians rushed to judge this humanitarian organization based solely on the sneaky shenanigans of these privileged few. Who were able to expose a minute number of poor silly employees who had very little common sense or they would have seen the ridiculousness of a PIMP and his PROSTITUTE coming to ACORN for advice on their Illegal activity. The GOP is notorious for their “GOTCHA” tactics and they seem to raise their children to follow suit. A thinking person feels so helpless when something so unjust happens and you can't do squat about it. I live on a modest fixed income but I had to donate to ACORN to show my support for this association that was being unfairly penalized. I am thoroughly disgusted with The Karl Rovian strategies that the Republican Party encourages its members to use.

Obama to GOP: I Am Not An Ideologue. . . Right, and The Pope's Not Catholic
merrie
by merrie  1-30-2010    3
even though it is those very facts that have them calling him and the Congressional Democrats a bunch of fascists Obama claimed the bill to be similar to what Republicans proposed to Bill Clinton over a dozen years ago. I don't care if Obama thinks Reagan himself would like his plan, it doesn't make Obama's policies any less radical. The very fact that he is freaking out over the GOP daring to oppose him, and the fact that the Democrats had to bribe their own party members to vote for the Senate version of the bill (which would be illegal in any other setting), is proof enough that the very core of Obama's agenda is flawed, and that he is on his way to being the biggest failure the White House has ever seen. Obama is angry because he wanted to be the great unifier, and he figured a smile and a few choice words would woo everybody into goose-stepping with his plans. And then, to top off his angry rant with the Republicans, he proclaimed, "I am not an ideologue!"

I was mesmerized, when I saw Obama, taking questions (or better put Rep. Talking Points) from the GOP. Anyone who is still on the fence about whether it’s the Reps. or the Dems. that will fix our country and bring it out of the mess it’s in; they should jump off to the Left side, after seeing this. The Reps. have had a strangle hold on our nation for years and what have they done? NOTHING! Wait a minute, that's not quite true... They have all but destroyed it… stepping over the corpses of the people while they go on playing their insane games. What will it take? Total failure I guess, because even while America is suffering these so called conservatives have turned, Corps. into People, Handed healthcare over to the ins. companies, Depleted any chance of paying off the Nat’l Debt and have turned their back on our future. Any voter who is still going to vote republican will be happy to know that the GOP will achieve its goal of destroying the only home most of us have known.
