POPSGoogle responds to carbon cost claims continues: In Google's repudiatory blog post, Mr Hölzle trumpets a raft of energy-saving initiatives the search giant has recently supported, from charitable arm Google.org's $45 million investment in clean energy technology last year to the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, founded in 2007 to " the energy consumed by computers in half by 2010 — reducing global CO2 emissions by 54 million tons per year."

POPSGoogle Maps the Flu No doubt you've already seen this story online, but since I have a keen interest in using technology to map or graph one or more trends in a predictive or user-friendly way, I wanted to share this story about Google's Flu Trends. The web tool allows users to track flu-related searches by state to see if the flu is on the rise locally. Though this tool is in its initial stages, the idea behind it has been validated by another study showing that internet searches may correlate with flu outbreaks.
