POPS NYTimes Declares Fox News Winner! After discussing past Presidents who unsuccessfully fought the press, Carr first scolded the White House, and then declared an unpredictable winner: Even though almost all the critiques contained a kernel of truth, in each instance the folks who had the barrels of ink, and now pixels, seemed to come out ahead. So far, the only winner in this latest dispute seems to be Fox News. Ratings are up 20 percent this year, and the network basked for a week in the antagonism of a sitting president... he administration, by deploying official resources against a troublesome media organization, seems to have brought a knife to a gunfight. Carr seemed even less impressed with the tactics the Adminstration has been employing in this battle: On the official White House Web site, a blog called Reality Check provides a running tally of transgressions by Fox News. It ends with this: "For even more Fox lies, check out the latest ‘Truth-O-Meter' . . .

POPSWho’s Behind the White House War on Fox News?
Or about the joint White House-ABC News health care reform infomercial that aired earlier this summer. Some “opinion journalism” is more equal than others. Debates about the blurred lines between opinion and journalism are all well and good. But don’t the talking points-crafters in the Oval Office have something better to do than carp about the talking points they don’t like hearing on the one cable network that hasn’t been completely overrun by Obama sycophants? The corruptocrat affiliations of Obama’s communications team are illuminating. His press shop can’t rise above the fray because they’ve been entrenched in the Beltway fray for years. They can’t help themselves. Democratic media consultant Dunn’s claim to fame is her decade-long service as chief strategist for disgraced Democrat and former Senate Majority Leader-turned-health care lobbyist Tom Daschle. She was in the thick of his failed re-election campaign as Daschle asserted a bogus property-tax

POPS ACORN – Not Just Pimpin’ The fallout of this investigation thus far at “street level” is four low-level ACORN “field Negros” have been fired. Don’t expect the Rathke’s to get hurt. “Socialist” please! Here is what an ACORN spokesperson had to say: ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis would not defend the employees in the video, but insists that the videos “are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist ‘filmmaker’ O’Keefe and his partner in crime.” What Bertha should have admitted is that the black women in thesse videos have been “doctored” and “edited,” and that the doctoring and editing has been done systematically by the Democrat Party. These women are the product of the Democrats “seek and destroy” mission within the black community. The outcome is a moral relativity that has these black women willing to put criminals in American communities, under the guise of “the greater good.”

POPSFAIR's Media Activist Kit Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting: “Media have tremendous power in setting cultural guidelines and in shaping political discourse. It is essential that news media, along with other institutions, are challenged to be fair and accurate.” The site gives advice on how to detect bias in the media, offers guidelines on writing to journalists who show signs of bias, lists world’s 10 biggest media companies, provides a list of Media Activism Groups, as well as a Media Contact List (top network/cable television, radio, newspapers and magazines) addresses, phone numbers and websites. The increasing number of people using social media sites are proof that we are no longer the ‘silent majority’. Now let’s carry this progress one step further. When we find bias in the media let’s make sure the people responsible for passing their lies on as news learn that we are not going to take it any more.

POPSBelgian humor magazine runs most offensive ads in history of mankind Twisted just enough to be funny. I especially liked one comment: “Bad but good. I’ll certainly remember it. Made me think of some lyrics from One Week by Barenaked Ladies: How can I help it if I think you’re funny when you’re mad Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad I’m the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral”

POPSDisinformation who knew what and when at Politijab. That said, Orly Taitz looks ridiculous but other birthers were skeptical. Finally, the precedent is troubling. Dan Rather is still unemployed, so that's good . But what if a clever birther decides to punk the True Belivers by making his own, much better forgery of an Obama birth certificate from Kenya or Vancouver, Canada? What if the forgery were so well done that no easy debunking was possible - would network news crews start clamoring for Obama's long form document so they could get to the bottom of the puzzle? That would be pretty funny, yes? Har de har. Posted by Tom Maguire

POPSTwitter message could be cyber criminal at work Many people ask me why i don't want a lot of followers on twitter or follow a lot. Well among the reasons this is one one them in article. and number 2 is unless only going to sit at computer watching pop up tweets from those your following what good is it to be distracted every 2 seconds from the pages your reading on the internet. Same as social network sites, what good is it to have 2 gazilliion friends whom you could never possibly have time to get back to or interact with having so many. Yep call me a nut but i prefer a chosen few. Those i take interest in. Whose tweets are interesting. Not blabber mouths tweeting like a starving bird every 3 seconds. And specialty tweeters like download.com or feedmecheesy.com where i am notified of new content. I guess it's suppose to look impressive if you have lots and lots of followers. I look at them quite the opposite way..Like the old high school snobs yelling oh look at me, look at me....

POPSGreen Budget This, on the face of it, sounds like good news. It is, of course, good news which we should have heard a decade ago, but better late than never. Now - where can one find an electric vehicle at a sensible price (capital is an issue, sadly) and which has a decent range? Anyone seen one commercially available which has solar panels to trickle charge?

POPS$100 Billion in Fat Cat Tax Evasion "The United States Treasury isn’t the only one being shorted," the Times reports. "The Tax Justice Network, a research and advocacy organization, estimates $11.5 trillion in assets from around the world are hidden in offshore havens." So that's not just $100 billion in tax revenue from wealthy tax cheats, it's $11.5 trillion taken out of our economy and moved overseas. And this isn't some loophole, this is tax fraud -- these are hidden assets and this is criminal.

POPSFor MSNBC, Cramer/Stewart Interview Never Happened I just got done writing about how Jon Stewart humiliated Jim Cramer on The Daily Show , so it doesn't come as any surprise that CNBC's parent network isn't willing to highlight how indefensible their financial channel's performance has been. Still, a press blackout on a story -- one that's all over the internet, BTW -- that makes CNBC look bad isn't the best example of good journalism out there.

POPSObama Rescue Buys New GM Car For Each New Bureaucrat
"The president's plan creates new jobs in government and that trickles down to the private sector," said Mr. Geithner. "This is a great example of the kind of public-private partnership that will lead America into a swirling vortex of ever-intensifying prosperity. GM will be hard pressed to keep up with the demand." The president will pay for the plan through a 50 percent "luxury tax" on privately-purchased cars that have more than two doors or four cylinders, or that emit carbon monoxide. "As the old saying goes, what's good for the UAW is good for UAW leaders," Mr. Geithner said. "The only way America can sustain its vibrant capitalist economy is by making the stark choice between risk and reward. Speaking for the president and the Treasury department, we choose reward." Examiner columnist Scott Ott is editor-in-chief of ScrappleFace.com, the family-friendly news satire site, and anchor of ScrappleFace Network News (SNN), seen on YouTube.

POPSOh Dear, a Liberal at Obama's First Presser? Politico's Michael Calderone exhibits symptoms of amnesia when he asks, "What if Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh were up front at Bush's press conferences in the East Room?" They may not have been, but only because the Bush admin. hired a hooker to lob softball questions to the president. Not that right wing radio hosts didn't get their own presidential moments -- just not at press conferences. They got their's in private face-to-face meetings that Calderone seems to have completely forgotten about. On The Flintstones , when Fred had amnesia, a second knock on the head brought him out of it. Someone give Mike a good whack, maybe that'll work.
