Wikipropaganda
merrie
by merrie  Today 2:37 AM    1
I checked with Peiser, who said he had done no such thing. I then corrected the Wikipedia entry, and advised Peiser that I had done so. Peiser wrote back saying he couldn’t see my corrections on the Wikipedia page. I made the changes again, and this time confirmed that the changes had been saved. But then, in a twinkle, they were gone again. I made other changes. And others. They all disappeared shortly after they were made. Turns out that on Wikipedia some folks are more equal than others. Kim Dabelstein Petersen is a Wikipedia “editor” who seems to devote a large part of his life to editing reams and reams of Wikipedia pages to pump the assertions of global-warming alarmists and deprecate or make disappear the arguments of skeptics. Holding the far more prestigious and powerful position of “administrator” is William Connolley. Connolley, a ruthless enforcer of the doomsday consensus, may be the world’s most influential person in the global warming debate after Al Gore.

Cheney Censored Climate Testimony
Wisco
by Wisco  Yesterday 6:33 PM
At issue was the EPA's denial of a waiver to California allowing them to set stricter emissions standards. In fact, EPA staff supported the waiver , but it was denied anyway. The Bush administration has had a long history of politicizing science -- which is basically denying facts... Which is basically lying.

The Superstitious Right Fights Good Science on Global Warming
Socratoad
by Socratoad  Yesterday 6:28 PM    2
We could go on and on detailing the ludicrous inanities of American politics in the age of Bush (himself Exhibit A), but really my favorite has to be the case of global warming. In a society devoted like no other to the politics of fear, we have somehow managed to forget the one thing we should probably fear most.

Conservatives At Odds With McCain
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 5:24 AM    1
But perhaps more importantly, he has long been an advocate of entitlement reform. He was early an ardent support of personal accounts for Social Security, and has pushed for serious Medicare reform, including means-testing. Almost alone among Republicans, he opposed the disastrous Medicare prescription drug benefit. "On domestic policy, he has shown a disturbing predilection for elevating every personal pet peeve, from steroids in baseball to airplane service quality, to a federal issue. And, he has embraced heavily regulatory environmental policies and compulsory national service. Like George W. Bush, he tends to support federal power over federalism, executive authority over legislative, and generally leans toward the imperial presidency. For believers in individual liberty and limited government, it's a decidedly mixed bag. But, then again, aren't they all?"

Loony Left now labels cars' "global warming score"
pkronfield
by pkronfield  7-7-2008
I'm converting my diesel truck to burn used restaurant veggie oil. I'll get around 2000 miles per gallon of diesel used. Will that rate my truck a 1? How about my cows. Shall I stick a sticker on their backsides when I sell them adknowledging their abominable 10 score with their emissions of methane? How can a state indicate causation between the fictional "global warming" and car emissions? There still is no proof there is global warming, and no proof that car exhaust would even cause such an improbably thing. Stand by. Once the loony left gets fully in power you will see horrendous backward leaps that will drastically affect everyone.

CNN Headlines "Climate Change Killing Children"
pkronfield
by pkronfield  7-7-2008    4
The loony left is at it again. Blaming global warming on what is essentially mismanagement of resources and graft. Anytime you don't feed a kid, it will of course be malnourished. The people of Timor got along just fine until Western Civilization entered and caused them to divert from their successful hunting/gathering/farming way of life. The real tragedy here isn't the boogy man of "global warming". It's the spectre of Global Liberalization that is killing kids.

Climate of the Carboniferous Period
Rustee
by Rustee  7-6-2008
Earth's atmosphere today contains about 380 ppm CO2 (0.038%). Compared to former geologic times, our present atmosphere, like the Late Carboniferous atmosphere, is CO2- impoverished! Understanding Earth's geologic and climate past is important for understanding why our present Earth is the way it is, and what Earth may look like in the future.

Polluter appeasement
Socratoad
by Socratoad  7-6-2008
But unrestricted greenhouse gas emissions are by far the greatest preventable threat to Americans' LLPH. Yet the government spends virtually nothing to fight global warming -- certainly no significant amount of new money has been allocated for this major threat (the Clinton administration tried, but the Gingrich Congress reversed that effort, reducing or zeroing out every program aimed at climate mitigation or even adaptation). Indeed, most conservatives, including John McCain, oppose even continuing existing incentives for carbon-mitigating strategies like solar and wind power. Conservatives in Congress seem likely to strongly oppose any major effort at a legislative solution (see "Anti-science conservatives must be stopped").

The coming famine
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  7-5-2008
"In light of all these hurdles, as I see it, the challenge is to double world food output by 2050 using less land, far less water and fewer nutrients – all in the teeth of increasing rates of drought. And we need to do it sustainably." "I believe we are quite capable of solving these issues through good science and good policy. In the first instance, we need to massively increase global public investment in agricultural research and development. Then we need to make sure the fruits of that research reach farmers everywhere. I also think that commercial wild harvests, such as fishing and forestry, should be phased out in favour of sustainable farming that dovetails with the local environment."

Tom Friedman calls for an "energy internet"
egoldstein
by egoldstein  7-5-2008
Once again, Tom Friedman calls it like it is. This is a smart piece that i recommend everyone read. Despite a lot talk about green energy, i'm still shocked that the U.S. government isn't more focused on it and committed to aiding its development. I guess we can only hope that China and Europe lead the way.

Why Canada is the best haven from climate change
Socratoad
by Socratoad  7-4-2008    5
As might be expected, developed nations score best. Canada is top, followed by Ireland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The United Kingdom is in 12th position, just behind the US. The surprise in the top 20 is Uruguay, which is listed ninth, and the only well-placed nation not to be in the club of countries which are rich, or Western (and usually both).

Solution to global warming: Floating cities
shandora
by shandora  7-4-2008
The 'Lilypad City' would float around the world as an independent and fully self-sustainable home. With a lake at its centre to collect and purify rainwater, it would be accessed by three separate marinas and feature artificial mountains to offer the inhabitants a change of scenery from the seascape. Power for the central accommodation hub is provided through a series of renewable energy sources including solar panels on the mountain sides, wind turbines and a power station to harness the energy of the waves.
