Flu Symptoms: What You Might Feel
merrie
by merrie  10-28-2009    1
... and just plain feeling sick. Swine flu may also cause vomiting and diarrhea. These flu symptoms usually last for 3 to 4 days, but cough and tiredness may linger for up to 2 weeks after the fever has gone away. Other family members or close contacts often have a similar illness. For in-depth information, see WebMD's Children and Flu. Children and Flu Some parents think the flu is a stomach bug. But while children may have nausea and/or vomiting with flu, the key influenza symptoms in children include a high fever, chills and shakes, body aches, and a dry hacking cough. http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/flu-guide/children-and-flu-influenza

Myths About ADHD Depression
jenadd123
by jenadd123  10-12-2009
“People who have ADHD depression are just lazy and don’t want to work.” Completely false, though people with ADD depression are much more likely to be unemployed it has been proven that the chemical imbalances in the brain cause afflicted persons to be unable to keep a job because of lack of organizational skills, fatigue and generalized feelings of illness.

President Obama unshackles Global AIDS Work from ideological Bush restrictions
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  9-3-2009    5
In new guidelines for 2010, the Obama Pepfar team opened the way to linking AIDS work with strengthening of health systems generally, taking into account the development of human resources, maternal and child health, family planning and access to it for women, gender equality, malaria and tuberculosis, food and nutrition, education and local economies. While Pepfar money may not be involved directly, the program's door will be open for cooperation. It is, in short, a holistic and realistic policy. It will matter because the United States is the world's largest contributor to HIV/AIDS relief, and Bush restrictions have had a deadening effect on many international programs. An estimated tens of millions of women who want contraceptives are unable to get them, or may have no choice beyond crude sterilization or unsafe abortion.

OK, so who speaks with an accent around here?
kelsoweikal
by kelsoweikal  8-7-2009    10
My WV friend brought up the humorous phenomenon of regional American accents. Anyone who sounds like us has no accent; anyone who sounds different does. Well, not to be a bitch about it, but consider this ;-) And, just FYI, I hail from Iowa City, IA - right in the big orange spot of General American English!

The What And The Why Of Hypochondria
fewstingscorpio
by fewstingscorpio  7-15-2009
that most people who develop hypochondria tend to be neurotic, self-critical, and/or narcissistic. Some perfectionists may also suffer from hypochondria - believing that being healthy means never, ever feeling any pain or discomfort. An underlying medical condition might be a trigger for hypochondria. Some health care professionals say that people with hypochondria have a low threshold for pain. They notice internal sensations earlier than other people do.

Panetta Testimony Likely Hurts Pelosi Thursday, July 9
merrie
by merrie  7-9-2009
By leaking a letter addressing only generalized accusations, the Democratic Congressmen get the best of all worlds; they get to underhandedly accuse the CIA of lying to Congress, without having such accusations tested because the substance is classified. They also give their Speaker some ammunition with which to defend herself, and avoid this question: Why would Panetta confidentially disclose that some programs or information were withheld (assuming that such characterization of the testimony is accurate), but be willing to state publicly that Pelosi was not misled on interrogations? Until we learn more about the testimony, we cannot say for sure, but as of now, it appears that Panetta is standing by his prior public statement that Congress, including Pelosi, was not misled as to interrogation techniques, even if Congress allegedly was misled as to some other issue.

Is a Real Orgasm by Asphyxiation Suicide or Self Harm?
garygraye
by garygraye  6-15-2009
Asphyxia (from Greek meaning ‘without pulse’, or ‘heartbeat’) is a condition of severely deficient supply of oxygen to the body that arises from being unable to breathe normally. An example of asphyxia is choking. Asphyxia causes generalized hypoxia, which primarily affects the tissues and organs. A simple explanation is that lack of oxygen can cause lightheadedness, reducing inhibitions and enhancing the sexual experience. Masochistic and castration fantasies are common and other psychological factors also play a role.

Are Sufferers Overcoming Generalized Anxiety and Panic Symptoms?
ClipDawn
by ClipDawn  6-13-2009
Are Sufferers Overcoming Generalized Anxiety and Panic Symptoms? Anxiety. It’s something that we all experience from time to time. Usually it’s a healthy response, a normal bodily reaction to stress. But for some of us anxiety becomes a way of life, a never-ending cycle of fear. …

more: An MIT group is building “self-folding origami” machines that “use specialized sheets of material with built-in actuators and data. These machines use cutting-edge mathematical theorems to fold themselves into virtually any three-dimensional object.” The Programmable Matter project is five months into its second phase, which is supposed to wind up early next Spring. When they’re done, the researchers ought to “assemble four or five three-dimensional solids of a specific size and shape from a set of building blocks.”

Splenda causes weight gain, impairs digestion, and affects chemotherapy & other drugs
Lexica
by Lexica  5-5-2009    5
More: As of 2006, only six human trials have been published on Splenda. Of these six trials, only two of the trials were completed and published before the FDA approved sucralose for human consumption, and the two published trials had a grand total of 36 total human subjects. 36 people sure doesn’t sound like many, but wait, it gets worse: only 23 total were actually given sucralose for testing, and here is the real kicker — The longest trial at this time had lasted only four days, and looked at sucralose in relation to tooth decay, not human tolerance. Even more shocking, the absorption of Splenda into the human body was studied on a grand total of six men! Based on that one human study, the FDA allowed the findings to be generalized as being representative of the entire human population. Including women, children, the elderly, and those with any chronic illness — none of whom were ever examined.

O'Reilly: Proestors use the internet are like Child Molesters
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  4-2-2009
Bill O’Reilly thinks protesters in general are anarchists who cannot fit into society. When the G20-protest in London degenerated into tantrum-throwing chaos that is exactly the message they are sending. Using violence to get a message out is counterproductive to the issue at hand and usually harms innocent bystanders. Street protest, if conducted properly, is the most visible way to show what the general public expects from the G20. When violence breaks out you lose your audience and the effectiveness of the protest. These few violent-prone personalities are doing more harm to their position because it allows asshats like O’Reilly to make these generalized and irresponsible statements. Protesters are like child molesters? This comparison is outrageous, even for you Bill. These protesters do have a valid reason to protest. It is just so unfortunate that a few have to detract from that message by exhibiting their childish behavior.

Climate/Temperature Change Charts
kris_tea
by kris_tea  3-16-2009    1
It seems that whether you support the global warming/climate change movement or not depends a lot on how far back you look into the past. Granted, we have warmed inthe last 100 years or so but, compared to the last million or so years, we really aren't doing that bad. Now, I know I'm probably going to get a lot of "you're an ignorant fool" type comments. All I'm saying is, I'm not completly convinced by the global warming/climate change argument & here is some data I've found. I respect your opinion so please respect mine. If you disagree, that is fine, but please try to be respectful. I've seen a lot of yelling back & forth on this topic lately & I don't believe that ever gets us any more than raising our blood pressure, & that can't be good for the environment. The scientific world can't agree on this so I doubt any of us on Clipmarks will figure it out. :)

HIV/AIDS rate in D.C. hits 3%

Scary stats. But this next part is even scarier. From the report: "In order to solve an issue as complex as HIV and AIDS, you have to step up. It's the mayor and certainly other elected officials. But it's also the community. You have this problem affecting us, and you tell people how serious it is and it literally goes in one ear and out the other."
