POPSLatin America Ends Year With Major Advancements In Gay Rights
With the debacle in the Middle East brought about by the previous administration, serious questions are emerging that the U.S. now lacks the ability to project power on the international stage. Now, with Mexico City's decision on Monday to approve gay marriage, it appears that local governments in two countries steeped in conservative, Catholic tradition - and allegedly not as progressive as the United States - have taken a far more expansive view of human rights and equality than the U.S. If the U.S. cannot project military power, and we can't seem to get a grip on human rights and equality in a way that two Latin American cities have done, what can we do in this country anymore? I am ending the year on a pessimistic note, but it seems to me that the only thing we are good at anymore is consuming anything and everything we're told to, polluting the environment and yet denying the very existence of global warming, cheating the most vulnerable among us, and

POPSI Can Find A More Worthy Charity "But think about those numbers, think about the power of the Salvation Army. It is a massive Christian evangelical organization — with a quasi-military structure and raising $2 billion a year — and it promotes discrimination against gays and lesbians in its employment policy; at local levels of government, going so far as to threaten to close soup kitchens in New York if the city enacted domestic partnership legislation; and at the national level of government, including negotiating with the Bush administration to guarantee that faith-based groups could discriminate against gays and keep their federal funding. We can find charities more deserving of our dollars and our volunteer time."

POPSSelling Their Souls For Fun And Profit Gay Republicans are like any other Republicans, particularly those mean spirited souls seeking a substitute for a relationship with a heterosexual male that find safety in the twisted kind of intimacy of the denial of personal responsibility their party preaches. They can deny it all they like and they can use their gay friends as distractions but their strain of Republicanism has never been about betraying their principals, but acting on them, such as the concentration of wealth and power in fewer hands, the nation's political polarization, and the disrespect for the system of checks and balances on which our democracy is built. Those are the GOP GOALS.

POPS All-Aboard America: ObamaCare's Big Balloon Ride Hullabaloo: “We were working on an experimental craft. I call it the 3D-LAV, a low altitude-vehicle for people to pull out of their garages and hover over traffic for about 50 to 100 feet. It’s in the very early stages of the invention. But this little guy decided to kept going inside the utility compartment underneath. So anyway, this little guy got inside of it. I thought he did, anyway … “ OK, that’s not exactly how Digby put it. (With a nod to Fausta, who suggested in an email that Obama may want to pump some helium into his own ratings. She notes the Weather Channel is the only one he doesn’t dominate . Maybe, but it looks like some of the gas is coming out.)

POPSR.I.P. E. Lynn Harris author of novels about black male sexual identify conflict Photo of E. Lynn Harris at clip source. Mr. Harris clearly tapped a rich vein of reader interest with his racy and sometimes graphic tales of affluent, ambitious, powerful black men ... who nonetheless struggled with their attraction to both men and women. ... “His writing, and his incredible mainstream success, encouraged a league of black gay and lesbian writers to follow in his footsteps,” says Lisa C. Moore, the publisher of the black lesbian publishing house, Redbone Press. “His words helped make black gay life accessible and worthy of open discussion to black readers, gay and straight—something much, much needed in black communities. I am grateful to him for opening those doors. He definitely made a powerful impact on the publishing business for black gay folks.”[/quote}

POPSA real argument made against granting domestic partner benifits He really said that domestic partnership diverts rights - including end of life decisions by older children for elderly parents. I strongly believe that a person has the right to make their own end of life decisions and if that includes transferring that ability to someone same sex via domestic partnership then more power to them. Children do not have the right to dictate their elder parents lives.

POPSThe Most Powerful Military Force in the World is the American People "America is the only Jeffersonian militia in existence today, and the American public is the largest, most heavily armed military in the world. In actuality, the entire world is defenseless to it – even the New World Order. A four million person army could invade the Atlantic shore tomorrow, and that military would certainly cause some initial chaos, but soon after, it would find out that it is drastically outnumbered and doomed to total extinction, if the American militia simply got up off the couch chose that to be their fate." Founding Father Edmund Randolph said: “A people who mean to continue free must be prepared to meet danger in person, not to rely upon the fallacious protection of… armies.”

POPS60,000 inmates abused every year, study says This should come as no surprise to anyone. However, the number is freaky crazy, and I’ll bet that not all cases are reported. What I find interesting is that more prisoners claimed abuse by staff than by other inmates. I guess it’s the whole power dynamic that some people just can’t resist taking advantage of. Unfortunately, most of this type of person ends up being cops.

POPSObama, Iran and Gay Rights--yes they connect! This week’s outrage celebre has come from the nearly unbelievable amicus brief written by the Obama Administration in favor of a Defense of Marriage Act case. Ostensibly written as the Justice department’s responsibility to uphold rather than alter existing law, the letter went out of its way to compare same-sex marriage with incestuous marriages, and used rhetoric one would expect from only the most extreme right-wing anti-gay rights activists. The letter was so reprehensible that it has fostered criticism from the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, even the Wall St. Journal, as well as, of course, all over the web.

POPS What A Load! All leftist progressive policy positions are ultimately intended to enhance the power of progressive statists at the expense of personal freedom; the only exception being the freedom to gratify oneself sexually without consequences. Are conservatives greedy? Yeah, some are, but not nearly as greedy as progressives, and not to the point where selfishness and greed are at the root of conservative politics. People argue that tax cuts are greedy, but the real motivation is to stimulate economic activity (which benefits everyone) and limit government power (starve the beast). Conservatives want to reduce and limit government power; which is an unselfish position for a political movement. The desire to have power over others, to force them to adopt your lifestyle, force them to live by your values… that is ultimate selfishness. That is progressive liberalism.

POPSPrimary school pupils were forced to listen to Elton John... Oh-my-gosh! Coming to a school near you. Why can't schools just teach reading, writing, and arithmetic? Why in the world would children be forced to endure the propaganda from one such as Elton John?? "tackling the issue in a sensitive way"? These babies couldn't care less!!! Can they not just be children? and not be *educated* and indoctrinated/introduced! to a life-style that is hurtful? "Bullying"...that's just a ruse and we all know it. Bullying has been around since time immoral and it hasn't always been about certain people; it's about power, dominance, and control. This makes me sick and want to shelter my little ones even more. They are too young to deal with these issues while many thrust it upon them.

POPSRufful and Riddle: Dartmouth Conservative Rappers
“We didn’t think it would blow up to be this big, but it was kind of a way for us to express a pretty unique view,” Riddle said in an interview with The Dartmouth. “We kind of wanted to spread the love that’s behind the conservative movement.” The video was meant to start a dialogue about politics, Riddle said, not to offend any groupAt one point in song, the lyrics state, “Don’t matter if you’re gay, straight, Christian, Muslim / There’s one thing we all hate, it’s called socialism.” “I just hope that people understand that in no way are we trying to hate on anybody,” Riddle said. The online response to the video, which currently has a 1.5 out of five rating on YouTube, has varied. One commenter on the conservative blog Hot Air expressed approval for “the message, the messengers and the media.” “There’s been death threats — waking up to a video of a guy with a skull, that’s not really what we were looking for,” he said referring to YouTube user NikolaiRaged’s video respons

POPSUK Begins a New Inquisition of Tolerance, State Social Orthodoxy
The New Inquisition will be one of political-correctness. These are the people that it is okay to Hate by State authority. Fascism of a new kind is being built. This will start by banning certain people from entering. Step 2 will be an Inquisition of those already within the country , based upon the same (unwritten, arbitrary, unconstitutional) principles of a particular "tolerance" ideology which they themselves define. This is the UK's new Orthodoxy, welcome to 1984. Anything "disapproved" compromises "heresy" , and such persons you are required to shun and hate by authority of the State. Consider the consequences: No free speech, no free press, no freedom of (certain) religion--no liberty of conscience, only the State's Social Orthodoxy . Violators will be prosecuted, eventually. Certain groups will applaud, vehemently, because it insulates them, and thus it is their revolution into power, as the State is their servant to punish their opposers.

POPSHomosexual Marriage is Really For the Love of Money It is also these money powers which threaten politicians if they dare to speak against them (calling it "hate") or coerce their support for the gratification of their anti-social agenda which also is economically motivated. "For the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil". And this is no exception. So really they do not do this for any "love" of society which they themselves despise while accusing others of "hate", while they harbor this very thing against others who will not bow to their revolutionary agenda.

POPSThink you're anonymous online? Don't count on it
More: That might not sound like a big deal until one considers an example: "First, we can immediately find his political orientation based on his strong opinions about Power and Terror: Noam Chomsky in Our Times and Fahrenheit 9/11. Strong guesses about his religious views can be made based on his ratings on Jesus of Nazareth and The Gospel of John. He did not like Super Size Me at all; perhaps this implies something about his physical size? Both items that we found with predominantly gay themes, Bent and Queer as folk were rated one star out of five. He is a cultish follower of Mystery Science Theater 3000. This is far from all we found about this one person, but having made our point, we will spare the reader further lurid details."…Back in 2000, a Carnegie Mellon researcher took a look at 1990 US census data and concluded that 87 percent of all Americans could be uniquely identified based on only three items: ZIP code, gender, and date of birth.

POPS Hey, Sam, Be A Man And Resign! NPR needs a new cliché to latch on to, because most people just don't care about Adams' sexual orientation. To me, it's a total non-factor. We care about adults taking sexual advantage of teenagers and those much younger than them. We oppose people in authority positions violating personal-conduct rules commonly accepted by most organizations that prohibit such power-play actions in employee handbooks under the title of "sexual harassment." We care about politicians telling the truth, rather than promising us "hope and change" but only bringing us "more-of-the-same" special-interest politics that breed lies like stinking swamps breed plague-carrying mosquitoes. I think it's time that Sam Adams act like a man and resign.
