300 x 4 Spartans -- The Living Legacy of King Leonidas
psinexus
by psinexus  10-8-2007
The 2006 hit movie, 300, retold the ancient battle of Thermopylae in bold, graphic-novel terms. Reviewers and pundits of all political stripes saw the film as an analogy to the Iraq War, and audiences relived the heroic stand of the vastly outnumbered Spartans against the Persian king Xerxes I ("The Great"). Interesting history at http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/300-x-4-spartans-living-legacy-king-leonidas

Asterix rewrite call after Gauls reassessed
tabsey
by tabsey  9-3-2007
Doesn't the second paragraph have a universal history. I like the idea of a rewrite. Loved the books. A story passed down since BC turned to AD, and it isn't accurate. Sounds like a couple of books which our conservatives are using to prove that it is alright to bash the crap out of each other because our book is the correct one. "Kenny" couldn't get that through the pipes to the sewage truck.

Revealedix: the Gaul of Asterix was no joke after all
Deepti
by Deepti  9-3-2007    1
"I have read about the new discoveries, but to be honest I don't think we will be reworking the Asterix stories," said Florence Richaud, a spokeswoman for Albert Rene, publishers of the series of albums. "The illustrator Albert Uderzo did try to make it authentic, but rather than educational material these are stories designed basically to make children laugh." Uderzo, 80, who has illustrated all of the Asterix adventures, is working on his memoirs and has no plans to give new life to his ferocious, moustached creation
