POPSGame Theory Explains Why You Can’t Hurry Love It shows that extended courtship can take place, with a good male being willing to court for longer than a bad male and the female delaying mating. In this way the duration of a male’s courtship effort carries information about his type. By delaying mating, the female is able to make some use of this information to achieve a degree of screening. Because bad males have a greater tendency to quit the courtship game early, as time goes on and the male has not quit it becomes increasingly probable that he is a “good” male.

POPSNew games powered by brain waves In a report this week USA Today newspaper said game maker Uncle Milton plans to release a similar game this year. Called "Force Trainer" it is named after "The Force" powers of Yoda and Luke Skywalker in the popular Star Wars films. The game calls for players to lift a ball inside a transparent tube using their powers of concentration. "It's been a fantasy everyone has had, using The Force," the daily quoted Howard Roffman, president of Lucas Licensing, as saying. "Force Trainer" also uses electroencephalography, or EEG, to measure electrical activity in the brain recorded on a headset containing sensors.

POPSGoe: The Ancient Chinese Strategy Game Goe or Go-From the Japanese name for the game Igo. The game was created in China over 2000 years ago confirmed with the discovery of a 2000 year old porcelain board. It is mentioned in the Analects of Confucius (c Third century BC) and some legends say it may have been invented by a Chinese Emperor Yao (2337-2258 BC) to teach patience, and battle strategy to his son. The game spread to other parts of Asia, and has been known by many names including Weiqi in China, Baduk in Korea, and Igo or Go in Japan. It is often spelled with a capital, or spelled Goe to distinguish it from the English verb. It was said to have been played by aristocrats, and warlords, while chess was seen as a game for the common people. The game was not commonly played in the West until the second half of the 20th century. It's popularity continues to spread.

POPSMonopoly: Game, History, Capitalism Orbanes’ book is not merely the history of a game: To a large extent, it is a history of America and the world as seen from the Monopoly board. No other modern board game is known so well worldwide (translated at last count into 26 languages), and no other is so closely associated with America and American capitalism. Did you know that Monopoly assisted the escape of Allied prisoners-of-war in the 1940s, and went on to play a part in the downfall of Communism in the 1980s? Want to find out how? Pick these plums out for yourself from this richly enjoyable confection.

POPSHow cooperation (eventually) trumps conflict Author Robert Wright explains "non-zero-sumness," a game-theory term describing how players with linked fortunes tend to cooperate for mutual benefit. This dynamic has guided our biological and cultural evolution, he says -- but our unwillingness to understand one another, as in the clash between the Muslim world and the West, will lead to all of us losing the "game." Once we recognize that life is a non-zero-sum game, in which we all must cooperate to succeed, it will force us to see that moral progress -- a move toward empathy -- is our only hope.

POPS Neuronal Computations Governing Strategic Social Interactions in the Human Brain Furthermore, a number of brain areas previously implicated in mentalizing, such as the superior temporal sulcus (STS) and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), showed changes in their activity over time. These changes are predicted by the mathematical model, suggesting that the brain itself uses mathematical operations similar to that encapsulated in the model to solve the task.
