POPSThe Twelve Apostles and Bloody Sunday (original) Like America, we had out War of Independence followed by a bloody Civil War on the issue of independence. This was also in common with many other states that gained independence. We didn't gain full independence until 1948 when we took it without a shot being fired. We did lose 6 of our 9 counties of Ulster, our northern providence. Hopefully some day our "four green fields" will be reunited peacefully. By Bush&Co's definition all our leaders would have been terrorists like Nelson Mandela , just like your own revered insurrectionists/freedom fighters/terrorists/founding fathers. Our longest serving PM and president de Valera would have been executed along with the 1916 Rising leaders only he was born in America.

POPS Support an Iraq Referendum
We are continually told that we must stay in Iraq to prevent a sectarian blood bath. But the Iraqi people don't seem to share this fear, and perhaps with good reason. A study of violent attacks in Iraq indicates that the sectarian violence has largely subsided, and that most of the remaining violence is directed at the occupation, and at government officials who are perceived to be collaborating with US. forces. http://www.countercurrents.org/lin190308.htm This would seem to indicate that violence in Iraq could dwindle away to nothing, if only we would leave. Of course, no one can guarantee what will happen in Iraq if U.S. forces depart. But the same is true for the opposite position. It's possible that the violence will continue precisely because the occupation continues. It's time to cut through the pointless, circular debate. It's time to ask the Iraqi people what they want, NOT what U.S. politicians want. The Iraqi people should decide. That's democracy, isn't it?

POPS20 Great Mark Twain Quotes Pt 3 (15-20) Twain was once voted the Quintessential American Author. Others who have been listed at his level during our 19th century were: Nathaniel Hawthorne Edgar Allan Poe Stephen Crane Bret Harte Washington Irving and a young man who was inspired totally by him: Jack London. I would be remiss if I did not point out that one of his contemporaries (and just as much a curmudgeon) and he had an ongoing battle of words in their respective newspapers, Ambrose Bierce...

POPSThe Next Renaissance The next renaissance (if there is one)—the phenomenon we're talking about or at least around here is not about the individual at all, but about the networked group. The possibility for collective action. The technologies we're using—the biases of these media—cede central authority to decentralized groups. Instead of moving power to the center, they tend to move power to the edges. Instead of creating value from the center—like a centrally issued currency—the network creates value from the periphery.

POPSU.S. Terrorism Watch Tops 1 Million This over-the-top dragnet has included people like Sen. Kennedy, Kat Stevens, and recently a former federal prosecutor! 50,000 individuals are included on the Transportation Security Administration "no-fly" or "selectee" lists that subject them to travel bans, arrest or additional screening. The Justice Department's former top criminal prosecutor says the government's terror watch list likely has caused thousands of innocent Americans to be questioned, searched or otherwise hassled. Former Assistant Attorney General Jim Robinson would know: he's one of them. More than 30,000 airline passengers had asked the Homeland Security Department to clear their names from the list as of October 2006.

POPSSentient Beings Protected I'd say it's high time that we got off our high horse and recognized other sentient beings that we share the earth with and grant them limited rights such as freedom from torture. Ethically, it is the right thing to do. In part, we can blame religion for this ethical blunder.

POPSWeighing Parole For Killers I guess we could argue that there should be no parole for killers, and that would be a black and white argument. I'm sure black and white feels pretty damn good to the victim's families. One thing I would like to say is I think some on CM feel as though clippers must agree 100 percent with the clip or we wouldn't clip the article. Not true, at least in my case and I welcome polite, concise, adult conversation on any clip. Opposing views are always welcome and can lead to meaningful dialog and in the spirit of that, I feel this clip asks the reader to dig deep on the concept of forgiveness in our society. Is that concept worth considering? The answer can be a very complex one with good arguments on both sides.

POPSTrading Systems Rated - This site has real Trading System reviews I found this site and it's great if you're looking for the best trading systems from Forex, CFD, Option, Futures or as a Day Trader or someone looking for Automated trading systems... it has it all. Looks like it could do with some exprienced traders adding more reviews, but until then it's a one stop shop for pretty much every trading system on the market today.
