Sally Quinn Does Complete U-turn on Sarah Palin
merrie
by merrie  Today 5:52 AM    1
Kudos to Sally Quinn for recognizing that she was wrong about Sarah Palin. So will other media types currently sneering at Palin, such as Campbell Brown, also experience a similar revelation? I'm not holding my breath but after Sally Quinn's dramatic turnaround I guess anything is possible. —P.J. Gladnick is a freelance writer and creator of the DUmmie FUnnies blog.

Obama Tells O'Reilly Surge Succeeded
sillysam
by sillysam  9-4-2008    7
Before the interview was arranged, Obama and his staff held a closed door meeting with Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes to discuss his network's media coverage of the presidential election. According to Ailes, Obama wanted to know if he would get a "fair shake" from Fox. Ailes told the Washington Post he replied, "Senator, you're the one who boycotted us. We're not the ones who boycotted you. Nor did we retaliate for your boycott."

Summary of the Democratic National Convention 08
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  9-2-2008
With the DNC news the last ten days and all the clipmarkers I follow, I've been Popping and Commening till my fingers wore out. This has probably been the most incredible convention in USA America since the radical days and riot at the Democratic convention of 1968 -- when the Vietnam War and recent killings of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King had shattered the nation. This time the excitement is for a lot more better reasons and the thousands of protesters are at the Republican National Convention, where they belong. With all the clipping and popping and comments swirling around this I thought that perhaps my web page summary of the DNC might be of some value. It has video links to all major speeches, all live music performances, a few video tributes, a quick clip of kicking out Fox News, etc. -- all the good stuff. McCain Reverses on Waterboarding

The problem here is that in February, McCain voted to allow the CIA to waterboard . Maybe it would help if he wrote his positions down someplace, then referred to his notes when he's being interviewed.

This illustrates something I've been trying to get more people on the left to realize -- Ron Paul is freakin' Newt Gingrich. He only looks good in comparison to Bush. Compared to just about any Democrat, he's still a right wing, reaganite nut.

Hope and Change—for McCain [Victor Davis Hanson]
merrie
by merrie  8-30-2008    1
He played well off the serial Obama gaffes like the tire-pressure sermon, while solidifying the base on abortion, drilling, and now his VP pick. He looks the relaxed candidate with the magnanimous reference to Obama's nomination in contrast to the herky-jerky ankle-biting from the Obama handlers over the Palin appointment. Now the pairing of the septuagenarian warhorse, alongside the youthful mom of five from Alaska contrasts well with two doom and gloom, DC natty liberal senators. The 72-year old McCain is still running behind the Messiah, and who knows whether the sudden 3.3 GDP good news on the economy, the stability in Iraq, and cooling off of gas price spikes will hold or play a role. But given the Democratic dynamics this year, the overt bias of the media, and the rock-star quality of Obama, being this close as September nears is a tribute to McCain's toughness and the savvy of his staff.

McShallow's Choice
Kevbo4
by Kevbo4  8-30-2008
The PUMAs don't seem numerous enough to be worth courting and I really doubt anyone will jump ship from the Obama camp. Is voting for McSame/Palin supposed to be some mavericky pro-equality opportunity for GOP gals? This smacks of desperation. Is she safer than choosing more experienced, more Hillary-esque female politicians who actually have experience but are too disturbing to sexist conservatives and family values crowd? Was she chosen over better female Repubs merely because she's eye candy like all the blondes on FOX News? Sure looks that way and this could very well be an ironic step backward for women in politics.

MSNBC's Network Chief Down Plays The Personal Bickering
merrie
by merrie  8-29-2008    1
The sudden death this summer of NBC News Washington bureau chief Tim Russert, who made frequent appearances on MSNBC, removed a political and temperamental rudder for the network. Mr. Griffin has tried to fill the power vacuum since, struggling to shepherd the network's big personalities through a period of transition. The network drew 2.15 million viewers on its first night of convention coverage, 88% more than tuned in for the first night of the 2004 Democratic convention, according to Nielsen Media Research. MSNBC also beat Fox News among younger viewers that night. Fox News is owned by News Corp., which also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal.network's chief played down the

Obama to DOJ: Block Terrorist Ad
merrie
by merrie  8-26-2008    1
One large group of network affiliates, the Sinclair Broadcast Group — which aired an documentary attacking John Kerry in 2004 — has been running the ads, Obama aides said. The campaign has launched a special effort to pressure Sinclair. Obama has launched a response ad, which addresses McCain directly, and will air in Ohio, Tracey said. "With all our problems, why is John McCain talking about the '60s, trying to link Barack Obama to radical Bill Ayers?" says Obama’s ad. The Obama campaign plans to punish the stations that air the ad financially, an Obama aide said, organizing his supporters to target the stations that air it and their advertisers. McCain’s camp, meanwhile, appears to welcome the controversy. “The fact that is launching his own convention by defending his long association with a man who says he didn't bomb enough U.S. targets tells us more about Barack Obama than any of tonight's speeches will,” said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers.

Conservative Nonprofit Group to Spend $2.8 Million on Anti-Obama Ad

Obama also was the first chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school reform group of which Ayers was a founder. Ayers also held a meet-the-candidate event at his home for Obama when Obama first ran for office in the mid-1990s. "Barack Obama is friends with Ayers, defending him as, quote, 'Respectable' and 'Mainstream,'" the ad states. "Obama's political career was launched in Ayers' home. And the two served together on a left-wing board. Why would Barack Obama be friends with someone who bombed the Capitol and is proud of it? Do you know enough to elect Barack Obama?" Obama's campaign accused McCain of having a hand in the ad, saying he "dispatched his paid consultant to launch this despicable ad from a so-called 'independent' committee." Federal Election Commission records show the last payment from McCain's campaign to Failor's consulting firm, Targeted Consulting, was July 2, 2007.

Obama Kogelo School Update: Non-Profit Done!

According to Ms. Ochieng, the school principal says that Hopefully he'll nip this one in the bud before the rightists - ahem, FOX News Channel - use it to bash him with here. Especially since 10% of the school's students reportedly are related to him. What the Obama School needs: • Water • Sanitation • Electricity • Remodeling • Security • Maintenance to bring water to the school by sinking a borehole and building a water tank, erect a perimeter fence, complete the science laboratory and add much needed new classrooms, additional latrines, and a school dining hall http://www.luoamerican.com/baldilocks/2008/07/save-obama-scho.html Now the website is being built at obamaschool.org; I will let everyone know when it goes up.

The Daily Show vs. Blovation Fest 2008!
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  8-19-2008    1
I've been watching the Daily Show since its first episode, and I started taking it serriously when Jon upped the IQ quotient by replacing Craig Killborne. Now the show pretty much only does indie film makers, political wonks, and third world presidents. How cool is that? The only people who do more serious interviews are Charlie Rose and Bill Moyers, and actually, Bill Moyers described Jon as "The Mark Twain of our time." But why did I clip? for the "Blovation Fest" Quote, which by the way, will be the festival of avant garde noise-punk music I attempt to put on this fall. ;)
