Legal Translation & Jurisdiction
jillsimpson01
by jillsimpson01  11-8-2009
The large freedoms that the Internet provides, allows criminals to take advantage of millions of users each year. Policing and prosecuting internet criminals is very expensive and difficult for many reasons. This is because criminals maybe located throughout the world and their criminal activity may only been conducted in a particular country or municipality and communications maybe routed through several countries. As a result, there are often jurisdictional problems that require the involvement of local, state, and federal offices in addition to legal translation workers and all foreign governments involved in the crime

by philippinetrivia  10-18-2009
Trivia about the year 2000, the year 2000 was considered as the year of the Overseas Filipino Workers or OFW's, they were reagrded as the country's modern day heroes not only because of their contribution to the country's economy but by the way they project the Filipinos as a world class workforce. By virtue of Proclamation No. 243 signed by President Joseph Ejercito Estrada proclaimed the year 2000 as the year of OFW's

Americans are being sacrificed on the altar of big business
gemfemfox
by gemfemfox  9-24-2009    3
First manufacturing, then IT. And, even in midst of the worst "recession" since the Depression, it continues on. Yet we, the still employed, don't care. We stock our homes with foreign made goods and spend our money with companies that are slaughtering our middle class. The irony is starting to show itself. Good luck to our children with the future. They are going to need it.

A Brief History of American Racism
foxyarse
by foxyarse  9-17-2009    13
In 1882 President Arthur signed into federal law the Chinese Exclusion Act. Chinese immigrant labor was the infrastructure backbone of the 19th century California Gold Rush, but by the 1880s a significant economic downturn increased competition and turned up animosity. Fueled by scarcity-stoked fear, nativists pushed an anti-immigration agenda, culminating in the 1882 Act that excluded Chinese workers from entering the United States. In 1943 this act was repealed. Brazil Seeks More Control of Oil Beneath Its Seas
ratilfar
by ratilfar  8-19-2009
This month, Brazil’s government said it wanted the national oil company, Petrobras, to control all future development of the deep-sea fields discovered in 2007, which international geologists estimate could hold tens of billions of barrels of recoverable oil. The change would make Petrobras the operator for the 62 percent of the new area that has yet to be bid out, consigning foreign companies to the role of financial investors. That would limit their ability to help set the pace for the oil fields’ development, while giving Petrobras significantly more power to generate jobs and award lucrative contracts.

Ending the Anchor-Baby Problem
dl211
by dl211  8-11-2009    3
In an interview with Business Week, director of NumbersUSA.com, Rob Beck, said, “The U.S. should pass H.R. 1868--the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2009--so all babies born on U.S. soil are no longer automatically made citizens. “Maternity tourism is just the beginning of the silliness of birthright citizenship that goes to the babies of foreign students, temporary foreign workers, international travelers--and the millions who break the law to criminally enter this country.” With an astounding 400,000 anchor babies or “Jackpot babies” as named by radio talk show host Terry Anderson in Los Angeles, www.theterryandersonshow.com, American taxpayers pay a heavy price for a total misinterpretation of the 14th amendment of our Constitution.

Internet warfare team unveiled #Twitter #socialmedia
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  7-23-2009
This kind of knowledge warfare was pioneered by the Russians and must now be used extensively by all governments. As Clipper abailart says: "One wonders whether it is worth it since the sort of chattering 'politico' twits who bounce soundbites off each other seven days a week are fortunately hermetically sealed in their own collective fantasies." However, the manipulation of statistics as Trending Topics which muddies the water. Unfortunately, open also means open to abuse. I wonder if it means that those of us who want open discussion (and meaningful inferences from the flow) will need to do it in closed groups?

The 'Cap And Tax' Dead End By Sarah Palin July 14, 2009
merrie
by merrie  7-14-2009    1
Particularly in Alaska, we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security. Consequently, many of us in this huge, energy-rich state recognize that the president's cap-and-trade energy tax would adversely affect every aspect of the U.S. economy. There is no denying that as the world becomes more industrialized, we need to reform our energy policy and become less dependent on foreign energy sources. But the answer doesn't lie in making energy scarcer and more expensive! Those who understand the issue know we can meet our energy needs and environmental challenges without destroying America's economy. Job losses are so certain under this new cap-and-tax plan that it includes a provision accommodating newly unemployed workers from the resulting dried-up energy sector, to the tune of $4.2 billion over eight years. So much for creating jobs. In addition to immediately increasing unemployment in the energy sector, . . .

How MI5 Recruits Muslims: Blackmails as Terror Suspects to Employ
blueridge
by blueridge  5-21-2009
This is an interesting article in light of the New York "alleged terror plot" story, and shows how government agents coerce to recruit, as agents, double agents, or even patsies, by use of threats, as well as financial rewards, for their particular purposes. This in fact is how "terrorists" recruit, by threatening the peace and lives of others they want to use and employ for their missions! Using these men as patsies, after arming them, in "role play" scenarios, is how it becomes a "terror plot" headline later for media consumption. "When people are terrorised by the very same body that is meant to protect them, sowing fear, suspicion and division, we are on a slippery slope to an Orwellian society."

UK medics go on Hunger Strike: Prevented from giving aid!!!

The cardiac surgeon took a month's holiday from work to take part in the mission for the Manchester-based charity Palestine International Medical Aid (PIMA) "This is very important for us," he said. "There are loads of people with heart disease . They can't get here , they can't get to Israel. If it's this hard for us to get to, how difficult is it for the Palestinians to get out?" PIMA's director, Dr Ahmed Almari, said: "It's unbelievable. They're a group of doctors, they went for education and teaching, to set up a cardiac unit. It's unfair and sad that it is only as a result of a hunger strike that anybody pays attention. There's no reason to stop them from crossing."

I also didn't like the idea of my toddler being exposed to Mercury if a bulb breaks, so I've gone back to standard light bulbs, although I refuse to by GE bulbs because of the reports that at one point they were funneling weapons to Iran which were being used against our troops.

Shocker: Obama-Run General Motors To Start Outsourcing Car Manufacturing
merrie
by merrie  5-8-2009
What this illustrates is that the problem with the domestic auto industry all along has been exorbitant labor costs. Or, put more bluntly, the problem has been the UAW. In order to become solvent going forward General Motors most find a cheaper labor pool so that it can compete with its foreign counterparts. That means getting away from the UAW in Mexico, among other places. In summary, we could have saved ourselves billions in bailouts and kept GM’s jobs in America if the Obama administration hadn’t insisted in essentially taking the company over so that the UAW’s labor contracts wouldn’t be re-negotiated in bankruptcy. Now that the UAW has been so artfully protected by Obama, GM has to go overseas to remain profitable. And if Obama blocks this move toward outsourcing (and he can’t be that stupid as even he knows he’s now tied to GM’s future), the company will collapse.

Why Isn't Socialism Dead?
merrie
by merrie  5-5-2009    1
In a similar vein, Morales' mentor, Hugo Chavez, has also been preaching that to be rich is to be wicked, while to be poor is to be virtuous -- and though he may be quoting scripture to support his arguments, there can be no serious question that Chavez-style populism is simply socialism with a South American accent. And this leads to the question I want to address, namely, Why isn't socialism dead? The Peruvian economist, Hernando de Soto, has argued in his book, The Mystery of Capital, that the failure of the various socialist experiments of the twentieth century has left mankind with only one rational choice about which economic system to go with, namely, capitalism. Socialism, he maintained, has been so discredited that any further attempt to revive it would be sheer irrationality.

Firms Face New Tax Curbs
merrie
by merrie  5-5-2009    2
many members of his own party have expressed reluctance about raising taxes, so prospects for the proposals are uncertain, even though none would take effect until 2011. A senior Republican aide termed the proposals a "revenue grab," predicting they could end up driving more corporate operations overseas. Some or all of the changes could become fodder for broader tax reform next year. "If rules are changed on tax deferral and we are taxed in the U.S. on non-U.S. profit, this significant additional U.S. tax cost would adversely impact our ability to invest and grow our business in the U.S....and to compete against our foreign competitors who are not subject to this U.S. tax," said John Earnhardt The president's tax announcement, to be made with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, is part of an administration plan to raise as much as $210 billion in extra tax revenue over the next decade, in an effort to trim budget deficits and pay for job-creation incentives & other programs.

This Is Primarily a Crisis of Globalization
brightlight4
by brightlight4  5-1-2009
The economic growth rate depends on two factors: the technological ability to increase the supply of goods and services and the sociological ability to enlarge demand for those goods and services. It's that sociological ability that failed. In a narrowly identified, especially national, framework, a company does not make the reduction of its total salary expenses a priority (the "Fordist compromise": I increase my workers' salaries so that they can buy my cars). However, with globalization, salaries are perceived solely as a cost, and, as soon as that happens, they stagnate. Ford's heir today could say, "I don't increase my workers' salaries because otherwise they'll buy foreign cars that cost less because salaries are lower there." But this stagnation weighs down demand, compresses domestic demand, and consequently global demand and economic growth: so then unemployment grows. That's where the key to the problem is to be found: foreign demand is not always higher relative to do
