McCain Blunders Again on Foreign Policy
blueridge
by blueridge  Yesterday 11:53 PM
The "Iraq-Pakistan Border"? No expert on foreign policy clearly, or even geography. McCain made a big deal about going to Iraq many times before Obama, but he apparently did not learn very much about its location. Maybe that's how he got his plane shot down in Viet Nam.

Both Democrats and Republicans are in service to the War System

This Is So Much More "Changier"
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 3:24 AM
I mean Barack H. Obama is doing some pretty wacky things on this tour. Sitting in Head of state chairs, negotiating foreign policy, utilizing terrorist organizations for security, issuing dress code to the paparazzi, I mean media, hehe, speaking from historic monuments in Germany, all as if he were the actual POTUS? But this must be the best (Worst) thing yet! Of course I hedge that bet as we are only into day two, so we do have some more fun in store I'm sure. That being said, it seems our Jr Senator has decided to remove the US flag and insignia from the US aircraft he is using and opted instead for the logo for his 08 campaign? Maybe this wouldn't be such a big deal if it were not for the fact that he is on a US taxpayer excursion!

Afghanistan: Obama Sees Problems; McCain Sees A solution
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 1:45 AM
The differences are not small ones, and reflect a distinction between the kind of staff-driven, laundry-list mush that sees the immensity of a problem and a leader-driven set of priorities that sees a solution. It is the distinction between Obama's opposition to the Iraq surge and McCain's support for it: not just the courage to make the tough choice, but the clarity to follow the right course. It's also the distinction between winning the war and simply ending it. Thomas Donnelly is the Resident Fellow in Foreign & Defense Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute.

Obama's Foreign Policy Goes Neocon--Unjust Wars Will Continue
blueridge
by blueridge  7-22-2008    2
The real Obama policy. Must see video interview (at link) where Obama 1) legitimizes the "war on terrorism" (as necessary and true war); 2) escalate war in Afghanistan (regime change, like Iraq continues); 3) willing to attack targets inside Pakistan--i.e. invade any sovereign country to kill and destroy alleged 'terrorists' (think collateral damage on civilians or wrongly accused from missiles and UAV drones). Watch the interview, Obama does not answer one "why?" question of Lara Logan about the "necessity" of the "war on terrorism", he simply dodges and assumes its legitimacy without reason or debate. UNJUST WAR is the problem here. Where is the protest? The "war on terrorism" is not a true or legal constitutional war, and enabling Obama to do the same as Bush without criticism is hypocritical and partisan blindness. It has always been the goal to finish Iraq and legitimize and spread the war on terrorism. Note the media: War = Patriotism

Chavez Meets Russia's Medvedev For Trade Talks
merrie
by merrie  7-22-2008    3
"We expect the signing of a range of contracts" in the arms sector, a member of the Venezuelan delegation was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying. He added that purchases could include Russian tanks and submarines. Chavez was also due to meet Sergei Chemezov, who oversees Russian arms export monopoly Rosoboronexport, a Kremin source said Tuesday. Rosoboronexport spokesman Vyacheslav Davidenko declined to comment about specific weapons deals, but he told AFP the two sides had drafted a document providing a "legal basis" for future arms deliveries. The Kommersant daily said Tuesday that a complicating factor in talks could be Venezuela's relationship with its neighbour Colombia, which accuses Chavez of aiding the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a rebel group. If Russian weapons surface in the conflict zone, Moscow would be threatened not only with a significant worsening of relations with Bogota, but with Washington too,"

We have everything to fear from McCain
Socratoad
by Socratoad  7-20-2008
Phil Gramm is an ornery old ex-Texas senator who seems to have swooped out of the most scathing H L Mencken sketch. He became McCain's "best friend in politics" – and started speaking to him every day – when they linked arms to stop Hillary Clinton's 1993 push to extend healthcare to poor Americans. He calls for "ruthlessly" slashing government spending – but only focuses on spending on the poor. When he was told paying for healthcare plunged many 80-year-olds into poverty, he said: "Most of us don't have the luxury of living to be 80 years old, so it's hard for me to feel sorry for them."

Iraqi Prime Minister Backs Obama's Withdraw Plan
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  7-19-2008    2
For such a neophyte according to McCain, Obama certainly seems to be making the right foreign policy calls. Emphasize Afghanistan instead of Iraq. Set up a diplomatic relationship and negotiation with Iran. Use a specific timetable to withdraw from Iraq. The Bush administration is signing onto to each of these but in different terms. John McCain is beginning to look like a stuck-in-the-mud in contrast.

Sudan Would Be Obama's Iraq; Elitest Foreign Policy
blueridge
by blueridge  7-18-2008    7
Conclusions can be drawn from Obama's elitest foreign policy advisory team, comprised from Hillary and Bill Clinton's own. While condemning Bush's Iraq war, Obama will lead military interventionism into Africa, most likely, if you consider his top adviser's position, who has his ear like the neocons had Bush's ear. Africa will be the place for "regime change" under Obama, to fold it into the plan for world democracy which is driven by the elite. Susan Rice is Obama's Paul Wolfowitz. Dems and Repubs are both military interventionists. Obama like Hillary and McCain is a member of the CFR , the elites pushing global government. Hardly a sharp "change" is it, in direction? See the plan for AFRICOM , for which Obama is most suited to "sell" as needed, as part of the global elite's puzzle.

Obama Now Supports The Bush Policy?...And How 'Bout The Worshipping Media
merrie
by merrie  7-18-2008    1
The press isn’t just acting like Obama is already president - they’re exceeding the sort of international coverage they have given the sitting president, who could barely buy a headline while in Africa and whose recent trip to Japan - which occurred during his birthday - went widely unnoted. But that’s the honest, balanced, unbiased mediating intelligence” of the modern day mainstream media. You do realize, don’t you, that if a GOP candidate with weak foreign policy was doing the same thing - making a “world tour” with dramatic backdrops - the press would be sneering about how the whole thing is a “stunt” meant to “deflect his inexperience.” I know you know it, but I had to say it, anyway. But hey, no bias here.

Obama's Berlin Speech At Brandenburg Gate Controversy
merrie
by merrie  7-14-2008
Obama, a first term Illinois senator, is planning a trip to Europe and the Mideast this summer to bolster his foreign policy credentials -- one of the strong points of his Republican opponent, John McCain, in the November election. The German government has denied that Washington put pressure on Merkel to block the proposed Obama speech. German newspapers reported Bush administration officials had signaled their reservations about Obama speaking at the landmark. A focal point of Cold War tensions, West Berlin was kept free during a Soviet blockade six decades ago by a U.S.-led Air Lift. Since then, American leaders from John Kennedy to Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton have delivered major speeches in Berlin.
