POPSForeclosure Fever Stats for Charleston SC Lowcountry
The tide has turned in the Charleston SC Lowcountry, now experiencing a significant amount of home foreclosures, even on the Islands and very affluent areas of Charleston. Unfortunately, someone else's loss will be another's easy gain. Charleston is still on the rise as a relocation and retirement area in the South (US) and opportunities abound as more and more businesses are relocating here for good. The moral of the story- no matter where you live, do NOT wait until you are 3-6 months behind and fighting foreclosure before you go to a foreclosure specialist or foreclosure "counselor" in your area. The #1 problem their overworked offices are having right now is people coming in for "free help" but it's almost too late to recover. Get help. It's free. Free foreclosure counselors are "out there" near where you live. DO NOT BE TOO EMBARRASSED TO SEEK HELP. This is your Lifestyle and your Family Home we're talking about. Seek help before it's too late.

POPSDid Team McCain Fire Gramm? Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain's senior policy adviser, on PBS's Nightly Business Report with Darren Gersh, on McCain economic adviser Phil Gramm's comment that the recession was "mental" and that the US is a " nation of whiners ." Kinda makes it sound like Foreclosure Phil's out, doesn't it?

POPSMcCain Adviser: US 'a Nation of Whiners' I'd be completely remiss if I didn't point out that McCain's economic whiz, "Foreclosure Phil" Gramm, has left economic disaster in the wake of his career as a Senator . Enron was largely his fault and the mortgage meltdown has his fingerprints all over it, too. Not only is Gramm a dick, but he's grossly incompetent too boot. Want a supremely effed up economy? Vote McCain.

POPSIllinois Sen Obama Constituents Left In Minus10 Degree Housing
It was during this exact period that the district's new state senator -- Barack Obama -- received a $1,000 donation from Rezmar. The date was Jan. 14, 1997. Seventeen buildings -- many beset with code violations, including a lack of heat -- ended up in foreclosure. Six buildings are currently boarded up. Hundreds of the apartments are vacant, in need of major repairs. Taxpayers have been stuck with millions in unpaid loans. At least a dozen times, the city of Chicago sued Rezmar for failure to heat buildings. Did State Senator Obama ever complain to anyone -- government officials, Rezmar or Rezko -- about the conditions of Rezmar's buildings? There is apparently no documented evidence that Obama stood up for his constituents. But he did find time to write letters for Rezko; these requests were only recently discovered. photo of Sen. Obama's letter: http://bp1.blogger.com/_orkXxp0bhEA/SHFSX9BTdoI/AAAAAAAAHQI/GzXzGhuUN0U/s1600-h/080706-real-estate-rezko.jpg

POPSFree Market Interference Here is someone asserting that the proposed home owners assistance legislation amounts to improper interference with free markets with respect to real estate.

POPSIllinois To Sue Countrywide And CEO Mozilo This is the first known case of a state authority charging Countrywide, the largest U.S. mortgage lender, for actions related to the housing crisis. It also comes on the same day the company's shareholders are expected to vote on its sale to Bank of America.

POPSThree Broadcast Networks Earned A Big Fat Zero Former Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala and former U.N. ambassador and assistant Secretary of State Richard Holbrooke also benefited, as did one prominent Republican — former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson. Shalala and Holbrooke had left public office when they got their deals. But it was reasonable for Mozilo to think they'd serve again in another Democratic administration. And what, many wonder, was the quid pro quo for all this? Just a month ago, in unusually harsh language, Dodd ripped into President Bush on the subprime mess and defended a $400 billion plan that would bail out the subprime lending industry — including Mozilo. The Democrats' initial response has been to stall. They hope the problem will disappear until after the election. They need to investigate it fully, immediately and without prejudice — or risk having it blow up in their faces.

POPSHundreds Swept Up In Mortgage Fraud Arrests In separate arrests, two former Bear Stearns managers in New York were indicted Thursday, becoming the first executives to face criminal charges related to the collapse of the subprime mortgage market. Mortgage foreclosure rescue scams, which promise to help struggling homeowners stave off foreclosure and keep their homes, also have become a major problem, officials said. Typically, unsuspecting owners sign over their homes and then find they are victims of fraud. Officials declined to say who might be the next corporate target, but Mueller said the investigations focus on accounting fraud, insider trading, and failure to disclose the value of mortgage-related securities and other investments. Under review for potential fraud are: investment banks, hedge funds, credit rating agencies, brokerage houses and due diligence firms - which evaluate loans packaged into investments.

POPSHouse Liberals Want About $60 Billion In Defense Spending Cuts But McCain could feel some discomfort because his campaign views Hispanics as a crucial voting bloc. His support for shifting emphasis from defense to social programs could help him appeal to that group. The calls of liberal groups and lawmakers come at a particularly awkward time for Obama. During a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Wednesday, Obama proposed sanctions on Iran that analysts viewed as far tougher than what he suggested before. Now Obama must balance tough talk on national security with the desires of many Democrats to slim American military power. Specifically, they want to steer money away from what they call “Cold War-era” weapons systems, such as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Liberals have also called for cuts to the ballistic missile defense program, the F/A-22 Raptor, the V-22 Osprey and the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class Destroyer.
