POPSEven more lies, damned lies and stimulus jobs So we've now seen reports of goosing stimulus job stats in Georgia, Illinois, Wisconsin, California, New Hampshire, Florida, Ohio, New Jersey, Virginia and Texas. (Ed Morrissey at Hot Air has more thoughts on the California story, as well as a round-up of some of the other state reports on stimulus chicanery.) At first the White House was owning up to "persisting errors" in the stimulus jobs data -- but when all the supposed errors seem to create the illusion of more jobs and are widespread from coast to coast, it sure looks like a deliberate ruse to hide the stimulus' clear failings. The White House needs to explain how this is happening before it turns into a full-fledged scandal.

POPS And Tonight’s Winner of the Sputtering Idiotic Partisan Hyperbole Award Is… The Republicans and FOX News are not the enemies of health care. They are opposed to a massive government expansion that can only be brought about through prohibitive costs maintained by a confiscatory tax scheme, and that by its very nature will restrict individual liberties, and restrict freedom of choice in ways that the government simply has no authority to assert. The Republicans and FOX News are not the enemies of education. They simply realize that despite the fact that the federal government has over time usurped power over the field of education that rightly belongs to the states and their subject governments, there is no Constitutional authority for the federal government to continually interfere in education and foist a politically correct agenda onto the American Peoples’ children, nor is there any legal justification to supplant the parents’ rightful opinions for their own. POPSGood Intentions with Disastrous Effects
But fraud and corruption are only part of the failed system that is Medicare – the other is basic accounting. In this morning’s Washington Post, Robert J. Samuelson compares the troubles with Medicare to the “public option,” which he calls a “mirage,” that is gaining strength in Congress. While Medicare is a monopoly, the proposed government-run health insurance plan seeks to attract investment capital to subsidize the enormous costs that it will incur (such as marketing campaigns). If this fails, which it undoubtedly would, Congress would step in to bail it out. When asked why it has taken Medicare so long to figure out they were being scammed, Attorney General Eric Holder told CBS’s Steve Kroft, "I think lack of resources probably. And then I think people I don't think necessarily thought that something as well intentioned as Medicare and Medicaid would necessarily attract fraudsters. But I think we have to understand that it certainly has." Good Intentions maybe but...

POPSPresident Obama Declares National Emergency, But Why? So where's the emergency? The only emergency I can see is the emergency fabricated by Big Pharma to sell more vaccines. By declaring a national emergency over the H1N1 pandemic, Obama is playing right into their hands. I find the timing of all this curious. Two days ago, New York gave up on its efforts to require mandatory vaccinations of health care workers. This was designed to defuse a large number of planned protests from health freedom-conscious people who don't want government-mandated chemicals pumped into their veins. POPSNBC Anchor Brian Williams Highlights 'Incendiary' Attack REP. ALLEN GRAYSON (D-FL): Do you want the Democratic plan or do you want the Republican plan? Remember, the Republican plan: Don't get sick " and if you do get sick, die quickly. WILLIAMS: Grayson said today the only people who deserve an apology are those who have no health insurance, and he compared America's health care situation to the Holocaust. "Brad Wilmouth is a news analyst at the Media Research Center.

POPSDem: GOP Wants You To Die Quickly represents a Republican-leaning district around Orlando and was already among the GOP’s top targets for the 2010 elections. Ken Spain, spokesman for the House Republican campaign arm, said Democrats should be "lining up to call on him to apologize." "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi now has an opportunity to condemn the very behavior and tone of this health care debate that she claims will ‘incite violence,’" he said, referring to Democratic concerns that the bitter tone of the health care debate could lead to attacks. But you see it is the Republicans who are ‘demagoging the issue.’ It is Republicans who are ‘using scare tactics.’ By the way, note how in typical fashion the Associated Press uses this outrage to bring up Mr. Wilson’s spontaneous outcry " as if there is a moral equivalency. Republicans are likening Grayson’s remark to South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson’s widely criticized shout of "You lie!" during President Barack Obama’s address

POPSHealth Insurance Bankrupts Americans
A Harvard study found that 50 percent of all bankruptcy filings were partly the result of medical expenses. Every 30 seconds in the United States someone files for bankruptcy in the aftermath of a serious health problem. Consider the plight of David: David had to stop working as a truck driver after he was diagnosed with kidney cancer and has since been struggling to pay for COBRA during the two-year Medicare waiting period. His wife, Gloria, is his full-time caregiver and cannot work outside the home, and the couple has had to use much of their savings and borrow from friends and family to pay for their COBRA premiums. David cashed in his 401K at a 24 percent loss so that they will be able to continue to pay the COBRA premium until he is eligible for Medicare. Gloria tried to apply for Medicaid, but she learned that their income is too high. "There is not any help for people like us. We are not considered poor enough, but we don't have the money to pay it on our own," Gloria sa

POPSConservative Activist Forwards Racist Pic Showing Obama As Witch Doctor Go to clip source to see image. Late Update: An emailer points us to a picture of a Papua New Guinea tribesman wearing identical head-dress, feathers, and clothes to the man in the image forwarded by McKalip. So that suggests that McKalip's image was based on a Papua New Guinean, rather than an African. But it seems unlikely that McKalip himself was aware of this when he forwarded the email. It was he who first used the term "witch doctor" in our phone interview, and he didn't quibble with our suggestion that the image played on stereotypes of Africans.

POPSPrograms in Several States Could Address Medical-Malpractice Abuses
Today the hospital encourages employees to report mistakes, and also to report issues that might lead to mistakes. A committee of peers reviews serious incidents. If the panel determines that a mistake has occurred, the hospital and doctors apologize. In addition, the University of Michigan compensates the patient or the family. The costs to such a review are high, said Mr. Boothman. They are included in the hospital's risk-management budget, which has grown to more than $3 million annually, up from $500,000 in 2001. But claims against the hospital have been reduced to 106 in 2008 from 121 in 2001. Andrew Muth, an Ypsilanti, Mich., plaintiffs lawyer, said the hospital's project achieves the primary goal of litigation: getting to the truth quickly and efficiently. In the second initiative, plaintiffs lawyers in participating states must retain medical experts who have practiced in the same specialty area as the physicians accused of malpractice.

POPSEPA Fails to Inform Public About Weed-Killer in Drinking Water Ah hell, let’s add the EPA to the list of evil corporations as well. Atrazine has become an issue of concern for environmentalists and consumer groups as the use of the herbicide has soared in the United States over the past few decades. "It is the responsibility of the EPA and Syngenta to inform the public of accurate levels of atrazine in their drinking water," said Jason Rohr, a specialist in ecotoxicology at the University of South Florida who studies the effects of atrazine in animals, and who served on the EPA's atrazine panel this past spring. No wonder Americans are getting fed up with what our government is doing and not doing. They are allowing corporations to poison us by allowing them to escape responsibility, they are allowing the EPA to not warn us of chemical poisoning. What is next? A healthcare system designed to cover up the causes of illnesses created by these ‘evil corporations’?

POPSMercury Contamination Growing The EPA said this year that it intends to issue new rules under the Clean Air Act to control air emissions of mercury from coal-fired power plants. The 2nd paragraph that I clipped from the article really turned on a light for me as we (humans) are not the only ones that eat fish. Bears eat fish too. :(
