POPSPalin Won't Give Interviews Until Campaign Is Ready Oh, the ARROGANCE! We've had eight years of arrogance from BushCo, which was quite enough. The only reason the media "focused" on Bristol Palin's pregnancy is because Sarah Palin is a staunch advocate of "abstinence only" education - and her daughter is a perfect example of why that type of "education" does NOT work. And if Davis wants to whine about objective journalism, what about the media frenzy over Obama's pastor, the flag pin non-issue, etc etc etc. If she wants to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, she had better start answering to the people of the United States. And if she's being so secretive and arrogant now, while just a barely-known candidate, imagine what she would be like if (God forbid) she were to become POTUS? Hell YEAH she's scared to answer to the people! Prove us wrong, beauty queen.

POPSPalin's secession flirtation "It's untrue that Palin has no foreign policy experience, anyway. In fact, she appears to have seriously flirted with the idea of trying to turn Alaska into a foreign country."

POPSJohn McCain and Sarah Palin's Guerrilla Campaigning in Colorado Springs This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin. UPDATE I: I just spoke with the person at Invesco who found the flags and he thinks both sides are exaggerating a bit. The person claims the majority of the bags with flags in them were near the trash, on a dock, and would have been thrown away. The person thinks it was probably an “oversight” by the Democrats rather than any nefarious plot against the flag. But the person doesn’t believe anyone was coming to get them: “The flags were there for a week and a day and no one came looking for them.” http://blogs.denverpost.com/opinion/2008/09/06/republican-recycling/

POPS Kremlin: South Ossetia Will Join 'One United Russian State' Georgia announced that it was recalling all diplomatic staff from its embassy in Moscow in protest at the continued Russian occupation of its land in defiance of a ceasefire agreement brokered by President Sarkozy of France. “The regimes of Abkhazia and South Ossetia should think about the fact that if they become part of Russia, they will be assimilated, and in this way they will disappear.” Lado Gurgenidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, scrapped agreements that had permitted Russian peacekeepers to operate in the two regions after wars in the early 1990s. Russia attacked the G7 after the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan condemned its “excessive use of military force in Georgia”. Having been rebuffed on Thursday by China and four Central Asian states, Russia will seek support next week from the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) for its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

POPSMcCain and Michigan In its "Insiders Poll" this week, the National Journal asks 77 Republican luminaries (pollsters, lobbyists, strategists, and so on) which states McCain has the best chance of picking up. At the top of of the list is Michigan. A handful of Democrats, polled on the same question, put New Hampshire at the top of the list and Michigan second. The clip delves into the political dynamics at work in Michigan.

POPS Epic Fail continued........about his bombings in the 60s is that they didn’t go far enough, who walked all over an American flag in 2001, and who said right before 9/11 that the very idea that America is a fair place “makes me want to puke”. Meanwhile, McCain’s campaign is launching a salvo of its own tonight - an ad reminding us all of just how tight the Obamessiah was with convicted felon and Chicago money man Tony Rezko. Aside from folks like Stanley Kurtz, who is currently running headfirst into an old-school Chicago stonewall over Obama’s work with Ayers in the Windy City... o major network or newspaper had any interest at all in either Rezko or Ayers. But Barack Obama opened up the Rezko story by yakking about John McCain’s houses and he opened up Ayers by questioning his basic character. POPSAugust 21st, This Day In History In 1893, a group of American expatriates and sugar planters supported by a division of U.S. Marines deposed Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of Hawaii. One year later, the Republic of Hawaii was established as a U.S. protectorate with Hawaiian-born Sanford B. Dole as president. Many in Congress opposed the formal annexation of Hawaii, and it was not until 1898, following the use of the naval base at Pearl Harbor during the Spanish-American War, that Hawaii's strategic importance became evident and formal annexation was approved. Two years later, Hawaii was organized into a formal U.S. territory. During World War II, Hawaii became firmly ensconced in the American national identity following the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. In March 1959, the U.S. government approved statehood for Hawaii, and in June the Hawaiian people voted by a wide majority to accept admittance into the United States.
