Papa B's Predictions for 2010
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 2:46 AM
Russia and China know out that if Israel goes to war, everyone gets involved. And we .....we do have 200,000 military close to the Iranian border. With respect to politics, Papa B goes on to hope for some sort of "centrist consensus", but we all know that must be satire. Need some cheering up after ShadowStats' description of an inescapable "financial Armageddon"? Well, Papa B's predictions for the new year definitely won't fit the bill. Pilots warns against knee-jerk reaction to terrorism
jatfla
by jatfla  12-27-2009
Well, what an amazing article! Pilots are concerned about 'knee-jerk reactions"? I would think they would be among the first to take this continuing AND accelerating tactic more seriously. Of course, they don't want the flying-public to be frightened away from flying for many reasons; especially financial. He speaks of "heightened security measures"...how about implementing those that are already in place? And most revolting is when this person asks the idiotic question concerning what the flying-public should expect from it's security workers!!!! "Minimal wages" are an excuse for sloppy, inefficient, lack, non-existent, irresponsible work performance??!!! Amazing.

Et Tu, Ivan? (just dropped a bomb on Copenhagen)
merrie
by merrie  12-17-2009
Ivan drops a bomb on Copenhagen. Unfortunately, it’s the kind of neutron bomb that is likely to leave the warmalist infrastructure standing. And thanks to robust tinfoil helmetry, even the soft targets are likely to survive the hit. Selective, distortional warmalist data culling is not a new claim. The hated skeptics have been saying this for some time. In this case, just one cautionary note … beware of Russkies bearing gifts. The last thing Ivan wants is for Europe to become less reliant on Ivan, and there is nothing Ivan likes more than confusion and consternation in the enemy camp. All of which is actually a good argument for the reasonable, rational and measured pursuit of conservation measures. Financial and national security bottom line, clean environment, all that. Not to be confused with economically ruinous policies in furtherance of highly controversial, unproven and apparently rigged theories.

Grand Jury Seeks CAIR Records
merrie
by merrie  12-4-2009    1
Among the book's specific allegations, CAIR officials grossly exaggerate their membership rolls and the depth of their domestic financial support. In addition, they actively thwart law enforcement counterterror investigations. Following the release of the book, four congressional Republicans sought an investigation into the book's claims that CAIR seeks to place interns on committees dealing with the judiciary and homeland security. Thus far, CAIR has minimized and ridiculed the book's findings, but has not alleged any of it is false. CAIR won a temporary restraining order requiring that the Gaubatzes return 12,000 pages of documents. WorldNetDaily, publisher of Muslim Mafia, posted a story November 24th claiming that FBI agents served a grand jury subpoena on the Gaubatzes' attorney. The move came as the attorneys were about to comply with the judge's order and give the documents back to CAIR.

Security Risk Management: Operational Risk Management Awareness
neilgramatica
by neilgramatica  11-28-2009
"The term Operational Risk Management (ORM) is not new. ORM and the oft associated term Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) have generally been used as corporate buzzwords, business culture idioms referenced in board meetings and articulated during presentations. Recent developments, such as the creation of the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act in 2002 in response to growing financial scandals in the U.S., have brought Operational Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management and related concepts from the backrooms to the forefront of corporate America. New technologies and attitudes have allowed loss incidents to be seen as more predictable and able to be grouped into risk categories. While large scale corruption may have brought about regulatory changes, these changes have spurred a re-visioning of Enterprise Risk Management. Advanced Risk Management software has allowed business to more directly mitigate losses. Improved attitudes and tools have encouraged the proliferation of sound Operational

Obama to Take 17% U.S. Emission Cut Vow to Copenhagen (Update1)
merrie
by merrie  11-26-2009    1
Obama’s deputy national security adviser for international economics, told reporters yesterday. “We think it will enhance the prospects for success.” Negotiations for a new global climate treaty have been stymied as industrialized nations and developing countries disagreed on issues such as emissions-reduction targets and how much financial help rich nations should provide to poor ones. China and India have said industrialized countries must be willing to cut their carbon output 40 percent from 1990 levels by 2020 if they expect poorer nations to agree to long-term reduction goals. Pending Legislation The proposed U.S. emissions reduction is in line with the pending legislation in Congress. The House-passed measure calls for a 17 percent reduction while a version in the Senate calls for a cut of 20 percent. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said last week that his chamber won’t take up legislation until “sometime in the spring.”

Drowning in Debt

Sheesh, they’re going to run out of paper, granted it’s all electronic transfer so maybe not. But man, I just don’t see how catastrophic inflation isn’t a forgone conclusion at this point."

Why Precious Should Have Been Taught Math Instead of Journaling
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  11-6-2009
Anyone who has taught adult-literacy classes knows that inexperienced writers' efforts are more often clichéd, vague, and confusing than searingly original and profound. And that's just the work of students with an aptitude to write... Maybe writing in her journal allowed Precious to conceive of a better life for herself and her children; maybe creating a persona on the page enhanced her self-worth. But, contrary to what Hollywood would have us believe, the world does not reward self-expression as readily or consistently as it rewards a good head for numbers. It's hard for any writer to support herself writing. Precious's teacher should have known that, and given her a calculator along with that journal.

Danger--America Becoming Statist: First Bush, Now Obama
blueridge
by blueridge  10-29-2009
Note: First the Security or Police State then the Nanny State. This is a must-read article, and hopefully an eye-opener to those still stuck in the "left" or "right" paradigm of thinking of partisan politics, both of which pick and chose which parts of the Constitution they want to dismantle for desired ends. Put the Bush and Obama policies together, sprinkle in a couple more terrorist attacks, and one or two more state-caused financial calamities, and you have a recipe for . . . * The destruction of American liberty * The blossoming of a Leviathan State

Looking for a middle class
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  10-17-2009
A sad depiction of how our middle class has been steadily losing ground to corporate dominance. This new economy is strangling the very people responsible for the success of many businesses who, along with government’s help, are creating this new economy. The days of job security are over. Beginning when companies began turning their ‘full-benefit’ employees into contractors to save the expense of providing those benefits. The middle class is about to be beat down even further when the drive to reduce the deficit and debt takes center stage. Reduction of Social Security, Medicare and other entitlements will be seen as the answer to rising costs and the middle class will be the biggest losers, again. Ms Cocco advises us to “Fight the myths. Break the back of the corrupt campaign finance and lobbying systems. These are hard political tasks. But being pushed further down is harder, still. Because no one knows where the new bottom lies.” Advice we would all do well to heed.
