POPSIsrael Wants to Attack Iran, US Military Aid Denied Israel is impotent without the U.S.. They have always used America in their own war agendas. Note the strategic importance in the big picture of Iraqi air space which this Israeli news article mentions! This is just one reason why Israel and the neocon agenda demanded regime change in Iraq, which clears the way for further wars of aggression in the region by Israel, under a pretense of a "war on terrorism" (which both Obama and McCain will continue). Note too that while the US has been somewhat restraining Israel, this is mentioned too: Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, in private discussions, even raised the possibility that the U.S. was considering an attack in the transition period between the election in November and the inauguration of the new president in January 2009.

POPS$480 Billion isn't Enough? The story points out a warning in June from the Government Accountability Office that the Department of Defense's "portfolio of weapons systems far exceeds its resources." Food for thought for defense investors, particularly as November elections approach.

POPS How The Stealth F/A-22 Raptor Works
The F/A-22 is the world's first stealth air-to-air fighter, designed to be unseen at long range and deadly in close-in air combat. It can also strike ground targets with precision accuracy. maneuverability in the air. Radar works by sending radio waves out from an antenna and collecting the waves that bounce back from any objects. On a radar screen in an aircraft or in a ground-based radar station, an airplane appears as a blip. The larger the aircraft, the larger the blip appears on the screen. Aircraft designers have worked for years to minimize the radar signature of an aircraft. If the radio waves are deflected or absorbed so they don't return to the radar antenna, then the airplane is invisible or could be mistaken for a flock of birds or other non-threatening object. Aircraft designers use a jumble of curved surfaces and other design tricks to deflect radar waves in unexpected patterns. Planes are painted with thick paint that can absorb radar waves instead of reflect th

POPSIraqi Air Force Lifted By Support Missions In 1991, the Iraqi air force had 16 bombers, including Tu-22 and Tu-16; 360 fighter ground attack craft, which included J-6, MiG-23, Su-7, and Su-20; and 275 fighters, including the MiG-21, Mirage and MiG-29. Today, it has 17 reconnaissance planes, three transport planes and only several aircraft for training. Despite the shortage, the recovery of the Iraqi air force over the past few years is considered a successful endeavor for Iraq-U.S. relations. Since November 2006, the U.S. Air Force has been aiding Iraqi military commanders in an effort to get the fledgling branch to solely take on military operations. "We will continue our relations and future as friends," said Gen. Barzanji, he added that "Iraq will one day be a good example for the rest of the Middle East."

POPS Beijing Reversal On USS Kitty Hawk Port Entry Hong Kong has long been a favored port of call for the U.S. military but Beijing's approval has been required since July 1, 1997, when Britain handed this former colony back to China. China banned U.S. ships entering Hong Kong waters in 1999 when NATO planes bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade during the Kosovo crisis and refused port calls for several months after a U.S. spy plane collided with a Chinese fighter jet in April, 2001. The 46-year-old USS Kitty Hawk, which is based in the Japanese port city of Yokosuka, is the only U.S. aircraft carrier permanently deployed abroad.
