POPSWelsh fisherman feels shark’s revenge "Conservation group, The Shark Trust, said Steve got what he deserved because he attacked the fish. Spokesman Richard Pierce said: “When you’ve stuck a hook in something’s mouth and dragged it through the water and put it on a boat, you’ve basically attacked the shark. If the shark accidentally bites you, it’s hardly its fault.”

POPSDiscrimination and the race card While discrimination might well persist, the rules against it provide rich opportunities for minorities should they decide to litigate. Unfortunately, the rich pickings available could well attract less than honest complaints.

POPSThe Great Depression Hoax Are we a nation of whiners, as Phil Gramm put it a little while ago? No, the American public is not whining...More likely, though, Americans are just leaving the whining to pundits and trend reporters. Our problem is not whining. It is persuading young people that, with baby boomers retiring, entitlement programs bulging and the world economy growing ever more competitive, now's the time to roll up the sleeves for something other than tattoos. For example, India produces 2.5 million college graduates every year (with concentrations in high demand fields - electronics, programming, engineering, accounting, etc.), and approximately 90,000 MBA's. Nothing against tattoos, but I do feel ignorance and apathy are much too prominent in America. Awareness of ignorance is the first step to wisdom.

POPSWho Cares about Size of Government? How about Competent Government? Don't be so scared of government that you serve it, instead of it serving you. Revolutions of the past did not protest how much governments were doing for their well-being. Fundamentally, if taxes had ever been used to actually deliver services to the people instead of funding monarchs and their wars, there might be less fear of taxes. Overcome your fears. Make your government serve you. Like the French providing household assistance services for free to all new moms a few hours a week until the mother feels ready to handle everything.

POPSGov. Sarah Palin: On The Issues New Alaska Governor Is Strong Conservative Economy: She supports reducing property taxes and taxes for small businesses to grow the economy. Climate: However, she has been a vocal critic of scientists who suggest that climate change is leading to the decrease in polar bears in Alaska. She has also threatened to sue to have polar bears not listed as a threatened species. Immigration: Being that her state only borders Canada and is thousands of miles from the Mexican border, Palin has not often expressed her views publicly on illegal immigration. Health Care: According to her campaign Web site, Palin supports flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care. She believes it will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. Palin also feels patients should have access to full medical billing information. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXzY1FvYpnE YouTube: 10:19

POPSAmazon Kindle 2.0 Nice balance to this biz week article. Not sure i'm sold on the Kindle either, but its tough to question John Doerr. He's been right many, many times...and his wins typically come with many, many zeros behind it.

POPSMore Fun Than Watching "Get Smart" In a speech of just over 16 minutes, Biden used, by my count, the phrase "ladies and gentlemen" 18 times. (Apparently "ladies and gentlemen" is to Biden what "my friends" is to Senator McCain). Biden's speech was filled with the predictable hackneyed phrases. We were told the American Dream is both "slipping away" and dropping off a cliff. And "the future keeps receding further and further and further away as your reach for your dreams." Biden feels things with "ever fiber of my being." Barack Obama possesses "steel in his spine." And so forth. Biden also made silly claims, such as this being the "last chance to reclaim the America we love, to restore America's soul." But for the uninitiated, it is something to enjoy. As my 10-year-old son put it to me after hearing Biden's speech, "This is going to be like Get Smart." Indeed. We'll be watching Biden closely — and loving it.

POPSUS, Poland Sign Missile Deal A few points to consider here: 1. This is being put across as a response to the Russo-Georgian crisis, but dumbass moves like this are actually one of the causes . 2. It's a BS system that doesn't work about 99% of the time. 3. Russia's statement that it would be the target of a nuke attack is a statement of fact, not a threat. If Russia ever feels the need to launch an attack on anyone, they'd take out these missile defense systems first, as ineffective as they are. Poland is foolishly painting a big bullseye on their back.
