In Latin America, most of the peace groups involved in areas of conflict have a strongly Leftist orientation, which means they are eagerto make accusations against the United States and freely elected democratic governments, while maintaining relative silence about Leftist insurgents and the brutality of dictatorships in Cuba and Venezuela. This behaviour of Western peace groups follows a familiar pattern. During the 1970s and 1980s, Soviet bloc intelligence agencies were heavily involved in organising and directing the Western European peace movement. After the collapse of the East German regime in 1989, Western scholars were able to examine the files of the Stasi, the East German Intelligence Service, which provided a window into the thinking of many major Western Peace groups and the eagerness with which the peace groups accepted Soviet Bloc support and espoused the Soviet line. Many of the peace groups only protested about NATO policies while ignoring Soviet actions.

POPSColumbian Protest Chavez This is another one of the Alice in Wonderland stories....the Colombian military and government are funded by the USA, a big part of the Great Drug Wars, covert military actions for decades going on. The real story now is U.S. troops going to Colombian bases...up to now it's been CIA and covert actions. One thing, it would be nice to honor the U.S. Constitution and "declare wars," rather than just slip and slid into them as we have been doing since WWII. POPSColombia more re wiretap scandal. Colombia ia a `special friend` of the US - who continues to train their army in terror tactics to use against the Colombian population. Journalists, unionists, human rights activists and horribly - peasant farmers who are killed and dressed up in FARC outfits as `terrorists`. And they criticise Chavez. But then came the freeing of hostages held by the FARC Colombian rebels, and McCain looked, well, presidential. And really, that’s the whole point of these “fact-finding” missions – looking good for the cameras. Perhaps these work vacations by politicians are more sophisticated than they first appear. Maybe Americans appreciate the fact that their presidential candidates are traveling beyond the confines of America and seeing the world firsthand. Perhaps, but do not be deceived. These are trips staged to the finest detail, with little left to chance and happenstance. Obama and McCain know this, and they have treated it as such – an extension of their political campaigns. Why do you think the network anchors are along for the ride? It is surely not because of the news quotient that the “surge” is working.

He added that purchases could include Russian tanks and submarines. McGovern back in March: The Reyes hard drive reveals an ardent effort to do business directly with the FARC by Congressman James McGovern (D., Mass.), a leading opponent of the free-trade deal. Mr. McGovern has been working with an American go-between, who has been offering the rebels help in undermining Colombia's elected and popular government. Mr. McGovern's press office says the Congressman is merely working at the behest of families whose relatives are held as FARC kidnap hostages.
