POPSView on Systemic failure The near-calamity that resulted Christmas Day from a would-be plane bomber who reportedly underwent terror training with al-Qaida in Yemen makes us wonder whether the United States' intelligence and security agencies learned anything from Sept. 11.

POPSObama cites intel failures in attempted airline attack U.S. President Barack Obama says the United States had enough information to uncover the plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day, but failed to put all the bits and pieces of intelligence together. Mr. Obama spoke after a long meeting with his Cabinet and national security team.

POPSTeen Pregnancy - A blueprint for failure in life In all actuality, teen pregnancies are way down from most other eras in human history. We have to remember that NOT being married in your teens - even young teens - is a relatively modern phenomena. So, even though in the past few years it is trending back up, it is still historically low. As for the article, nearly worthless other than it mentions that PARENTS are the most important influence.

POPSDoctors 'not trained to deal with death' Amazing that, even with the vision of a wonderful "afterlife" so many are keen on, most are not happy about dying. It is, however, a fact of life that we should learn to understand.

POPSThe Christmas Bomber Speaks … Finally
The intelligence he possessed was perishable. Each moment that passed that he was not speaking meant lost counterterrorism opportunities. Every hour, every day, every week that went by gave them precious time to close bank accounts, e-mail addresses, phone numbers he knew about, and shut down training camps, safe houses, and other intelligence leads he could have given us. Terrorists he knew about have been put into hiding, and other leads that were hot in the days immediately following his capture have since gone cold. The mishandling of Abdulmutallab’s questioning is an intelligence failure of massive proportions. And it highlights the problem with the Obama administration’s approach to terrorist interrogation. The administration’s approach is built on a law-enforcement model unsuited for the challenges of the war on terror. Here is why: In law enforcement, interrogators generally question terrorists after an attack (or in the case of Abdulmutallab, an attempted attack)

POPSObama admits health care overhaul may die on Hill Now the health legislation hangs in limbo. Lawmakers are looking to Obama for guidance, but he has not publicly offered specifics. His signals have been mixed. At the DNC event he said Republicans should be part of the process - something they've shown little interest in and that would doubtlessly drag out a legislative effort that many rank-and-file Democrats want to end quickly.

POPSPopcorn Time! Al Franken vs. David Axlerod Over Healthcare Sen. Al Franken ripped into White House senior adviser David Axelrod this week during a tense, closed-door session with Senate Democrats. Five sources who were in the room tell POLITICO that Franken criticized Axelrod for the administration’s failure to provide clarity or direction on health care and the other big bills it wants Congress to enact. The sources said Franken was the most outspoken senator in the meeting, which followed President Barack Obama’s question-and-answer session with Senate Democrats at the Newseum on Wednesday. But they also said the Minnesotan wasn’t the only angry Democrat in the room. “There was a lot of frustration in there,” said a Democratic senator who declined to be identified. “People were hot,” another Democratic senator said.

POPSEnedgame (2) Greer says that it is time to start implementing your survival strategy now, or join what he calls the "New Okies". This kind of warning is very unlike the unflappable pragmatist I have come to know. Something has really freaked him out. Still our snow drops came out today.

POPSEndgame (1) I am reading 'The Ecotechnic Future' by John Michael Greer, who likes to take long term views and consistently argues that transitional change is a gradual process which will have to be dealt with over a generation or two. Recently, the good Druid has become increasingly alarmed by systemic risks in the short term.

POPSSpecies of the Day - 1st February - gyps-indicus
The Indian Vulture, Gyps indicus, is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM. This robust and scruffy scavenger used to be found in villages, towns and cities near cultivated and wooded areas in south-eastern Pakistan and India. Like other vulture species, the Indian Vulture has suffered serious declines since the late 1990s, losing as much as 99 percent of its population. Vultures were discovered to be suffering from kidney failure following the consumption of cattle that had previously been treated with the anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac. As a result of reduced vulture numbers, rotting animal carcasses now remain untouched, causing health hazards, as well as encouraging feral dog populations which may carry rabies. Strong government commitment has been given to the prevention of any use of this drug and for its complete removal from the environment, but supplies are still being used, sometimes in ignorance of their effects. POPSNew bank fee would recoup AIG bonuses This is just another hidden tax on the people. AIG, is simply going to raise their premiums for Worker's Compensation Insurance, which is compulsory for small businesses. They will, in effect, be a surrogate tax collector so that it's really a zero-sum win-win for AIG and the Government, while the small business owner, once more, gets it shoved up his "keester," then in turn, out of self-preservation, shove it up ours.

POPSThe Failed Presidency of B.H.Obama I have been a public speaker practically all my life and I must tell you, speaking with notes is quite different than speaking extemporaneously, without notes, off the top of your head, so to speak. (No pun intended.) The use of a TelePrompTer basically requires that you show up for the event and that is about all there is to it. A well-written speech can make anyone look exceptional. The President, all presidents, have a battery of speechwriters to do just that. One of the best, in my humble opinion, is Peggy Noonan. The lady has a way with a phrase, any phrase. If I learned that Ms. Noonan had written a speech — I wanted to hear it. She is THAT good! more at source.

POPSThey STILL Don't Get It!
At least it USED to before the socialist in the White House, and those in Congress, began to meddle in the business affairs of the country. The Democrats are busy looking for a way, anyway, to save face for their president, Obama. They KNOW his presidency, so far, has been a failure and will be recorded by history as such. But if they can get a bill, any bill, he can sign that will provide the appearance of having accomplished something, anything, in his first year in office, it will, they think, counter balance, or mitigate, history’s record of Obama’s failure as a President. They are partly correct in thinking that. I mean, how often do you read, see, or hear, when references are made to former President Bill Clinton, that he was impeached? EVER? That’s what I thought. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) has said a decision on exactly how to proceed should not be long in coming. Schumer said: “That doesn’t mean we’re going to sit here and twiddle our thumbs for weeks and weeks and

POPSObama's Strategy of Manufactured Crisis [understanding what makes him tick] Not NEW but bears repeating!!! Obama mentors Cloward-Piven; their strategy -- to create political, financial, and social chaos that would result in revolution blended Alinsky concepts with their more aggressive efforts at bringing about A CHANGE in U.S. government. To achieve their revolutionary change, Cloward and Piven sought to use a cadre of aggressive organizers assisted by friendly news media to force a re-distribution of the nation's wealth. -- Wake up to our RADICAL President America! - Read the full article on American Thinker.

POPSObama’s Getting Angry And Desperate… And It’s Showing
* The American public (by innuendo) for his rapid decline in the polls He has threatened to use “Executive Orders” to bypass Congress if they don’t advance his agenda. Yes, those were warning sirens you heard in your head. Heed them. Forget about whether or not Obama can legally do this. He will do it if he feels it’s the only way to accomplish his goals, and then he’ll challenge us to undo the damage. Bet on it. With his personal failure obvious to everyone but himself, Obama has adopted the Saul Alinsky ”Rules for Radicals” philosophy of “Step on the gas” in pushing forward before we have a chance to get rid of him legally (sobering thought: We have three more years of this sentence with Obama. So how does that “Hope” and “Change” look to you now? A year later, much of that public has awakened from their stupor to realize just what America would be like under Obama’s dream/nightmare. Gradually, America woke to find an extreme radical

POPSThe Value of Nothing We definitely need new definitions of success. Do we need new measures? Or perhaps, it is the measuring which is behind the problem in the first place. What if success is about doing more with less, voluntary / clever poverty, rather than in having more of anything including money. Before anything can be measured, a purpose needs to be agreed.

POPSObama to GOP: I Am Not An Ideologue. . . Right, and The Pope's Not Catholic
even though it is those very facts that have them calling him and the Congressional Democrats a bunch of fascists Obama claimed the bill to be similar to what Republicans proposed to Bill Clinton over a dozen years ago. I don't care if Obama thinks Reagan himself would like his plan, it doesn't make Obama's policies any less radical. The very fact that he is freaking out over the GOP daring to oppose him, and the fact that the Democrats had to bribe their own party members to vote for the Senate version of the bill (which would be illegal in any other setting), is proof enough that the very core of Obama's agenda is flawed, and that he is on his way to being the biggest failure the White House has ever seen. Obama is angry because he wanted to be the great unifier, and he figured a smile and a few choice words would woo everybody into goose-stepping with his plans. And then, to top off his angry rant with the Republicans, he proclaimed, "I am not an ideologue!"

POPSPresident Obama At The Podium In Republican Land
I was mesmerized, when I saw Obama, taking questions (or better put Rep. Talking Points) from the GOP. Anyone who is still on the fence about whether it’s the Reps. or the Dems. that will fix our country and bring it out of the mess it’s in; they should jump off to the Left side, after seeing this. The Reps. have had a strangle hold on our nation for years and what have they done? NOTHING! Wait a minute, that's not quite true... They have all but destroyed it… stepping over the corpses of the people while they go on playing their insane games. What will it take? Total failure I guess, because even while America is suffering these so called conservatives have turned, Corps. into People, Handed healthcare over to the ins. companies, Depleted any chance of paying off the Nat’l Debt and have turned their back on our future. Any voter who is still going to vote republican will be happy to know that the GOP will achieve its goal of destroying the only home most of us have known.
