POPS So Good The Washington Independent on the prospect for “Church-Pike” hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee, another great idea to hamstring and distract intelligence services in wartime that Obama may discover, sort of like closing Guantanamo, isn’t the greatest idea. Human rights groups want some drama with their national angst. Detainee Truth Commissions, please. Because fighting al-Qaeda = Apartheid.

POPSLogic? Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools. A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery. Supporting "Executive Privilege" for every Republican ever born, who will be born or who might be born( in perpetuity.)

POPSBush presidency 'battered', 'incompetent', 'unlucky' Who are these people kidding? They are being far too kind with him. The word I would use to describe him is “criminal”. He set a precedent for spying on American citizens, lied to start a war in order to line his corporate buddies pockets with cash, stomped on the Constitution to give his office more power, run roughshod over habeas corpus, approved the use of torture, appointed incompetent cronies to leadership positions, abused executive privilege to protect criminal activities, is responsible for creating more terrorist than al Qaeda, smothered Americans with a security bureaucracy that has only fostered fear and anger, and run our economy into the ground. The word “Incompetent” doesn’t begin to cover what this administration will be known for.

POPSGood Shot, Sarah! I've been quite impressed with the near-formula successes of Republicans these last few years. They make it look so easy: Keep Meyers from testifying, keep Scooter out of prison, keep the clock ticking on impeachment flap. Who'd-a-known that Executive Privilege would still work after all these years? Now, Sarah Palin grabs the yoke of the Straight Talk campaign by circling topics not "prescribed" by staffers. It's refreshing to see because usually VP's just do funerals and cast their vote and that's that. She's making Biden look like a stuffed shirt and Citizen McCain look like he's all out of POW time with a bums rush of refreshing topic flare. Could it be she's looked.... you know... at the poll numbers and is actually readying for 2012 herself? "Yes Senator Palin" or "No President Palin, the intelligence isn't right yet." Who'll write that script except Sarah herself? Sometimes going at it alone puts everyone into view.

POPSDirty Secret of the Bailout: 32 words no one dare utter This is, deep down in side, what the Corporate-wing of the Republican party is all about: Privatize profits, socialize costs. Because the investment class owns Washington, and they're not about to take it in the ass (I mean, wallet) just because they made stupid, greedy decisions. Work harder, America. You the top 5% are counting on your efforts to keep them in caviar.

POPSMissing Emails: What is the White House Hiding? Secrecy is not a mark of trustworthy government, and please do not say this was an accident and that the White House really is trying to recover anything. This is too convenient, since 'executive privelege" claims did not work. By the way, CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) is a non-partisan group that went after Larry Craig and is not beholden to either Dems or Repubs, but goes after ALL corruption of either party like pit bulls.

POPSThe Sins John Edward Did Not Commit You know what? I get sick and tired of the moral majority being the judge and jury of a personal situation which is between a husband and wife, especially since so many of them just love to pork it up with hot babes themselves or better yet, love getting same sex encounters in public restrooms.

POPSA federal court rejects Bush's "executive privilege" claims And did some liberal "I make the law from the bench" write this ruling? Errrm....NO! "as a Federal District Judge, John D. Bates of the District of Columbia District Court -- a Bush 43-appointed (and generally very pro-Bush-administration) Judge as well as the former Deputy Independent Counsel for the Whitewater investigations -- held in a 93-page ruling (.pdf) that Bush aides Harriet Miers (former White House counsel) and Josh Bolten (White House Chief of Staff) are not entitled to absolute immunity from Congressional subpoenas."

POPSRove in Contempt You've got to wonder what this could mean for McCain's campaign . The last thing Baghdad Johnny needs is a very public example of how he's joined at the hip to the Bush admin. through McCain adviser Rove -- especially in the context of how crooked they all are.

POPSSome interestin moment at House Hearings on Abuse of Executive Branch Power Miller has introduced legislation calling for appointment of a special prosecutor to bring criminal contempt charges against several current and former Bush administration officials for refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas. The Justice Department has refused to bring charges against administration officials for not complying with the subpoenas once Bush has asserted an executive privilege claim. The House Judiciary Committee has filed a civil lawsuit against the White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten

POPSBush, Mukasey, Cheney Claim Exec Privilege, Obstructing in Plame Case But the Executive has no "privilege" to violate the law, nor to obstruct justice. And Cheney, by his own words, is not part of the "executive branch". Mukasey, the new AG replacing Alberto (Speedy) Gonzales, shows why he was chosen by Bush, i.e. to continue to obstruct justice. As even republican federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald said on the Plame case, "a cloud hangs over the VP office", and Scott McClellan just opened up and published his account that Bush personally admitted authorizing the Plame leak! This is stonewalling to avoid prosecution for a "high crime" worthy of impeachment by George and Dick both.

POPSSecrecy by US government is the most dangerous When our own government has so much to hide, it becomes clear, that the gravest danger that this once great nation is facing, is not terrorism from abroad, but the terrorism perpetrated by our own institutions.

POPSMullen Presents Medals For Valor To 12 Paratroopers In Afghanistan
“We spotted an enemy scout and eventually made contact, but he was able to our location to other fighters in the valley,” Ambrosia said. Ambrosia’s element had a translator monitoring the enemy communication with a basic one-way radio. The interpreter continued to monitor the radio, and Ambrosia learned that the scout was coordinating with other enemy fighters in the area to launch an attack. Soon there were at least three enemy elements with three to five fighters each closing in on the platoon. So close, in fact, they were in hand-grenade range of his troops, he said. “At one point, I started calling the vehicles in the valley to start shooting on our position, because the enemy was too close to call in artillery or mortar fire.” Enemy radio traffic intercepted by Ambrosia’s interpreter let the paratroopers know the insurgents planned to overrun their position and take them hostage, but they were able to repel the attack, he said.............

POPSObama, Conyers epitomize Arrogance in Pants.
Thanks Joan for posting this...The Centrist thing of Obama's was inevitable, it seems, as he panders to the sheeple. WASHINGTON -- Former White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove won't testify next week before a House committee investigating the prosecution of former Gov. Don Siegelman, despite a threat of a contempt proceeding. Rove is exerting executive privilege and declined the invitation to appear before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, his attorney Robert Luskin wrote to the House panel Tuesday. A lawsuit is pending in federal court in Washington over whether top White House officials can be compelled to testify before Congress, he wrote. The Judiciary Committee has been seeking Rove's testimony since April, and committee Chairman Rep. John Con- yers, D-Mich., said in a response letter sent Thursday that he was "disappointed" with Rove's decision. It seems Conyers has lost his balls somewhere...won't Impeach, when it's the only thing to stop Cheney/Bush, and

POPSSupreme Court Rules Detainees Have Constitutional Rights Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the court majority: "The detainees in these cases are entitled to a prompt habeas corpus hearing. . . . Within the Constitution's separation-of-powers structure, few exercises of judicial power are as legitimate or as necessary as the responsibility to hear challenges to the authority of the executive to imprison a person." The court was narrowly split, 5 to 4. The dissenters accused the majority of meddling in a wartime matter better left to the president and the military. The decision "will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed," Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in a dissent. President Bush said he would abide by the decision but added: "It was a deeply divided court, and I strongly agree with those who dissented." About 270 men are still held at Guantanamo. Fewer than 20 are now facing trial before a military commission, and about 60 are in the pipeline.

POPS20 Ex-Prosecutors Side with Congress in Subpoena Case The piece goes on: "If permitted to enforce its subpoenas for documents and testimony, Congress has a unique ability to address improper partisan influence in the prosecutorial process," the former prosecutors wrote. "No other institution will fill the vacuum if Congress is unable to investigate and respond to this evil." In other words, allow the subpoenas or the WH is above the law.

Let him know that only impeachment hearings 1-will make it on TV, 2-will force compliance with subpoenas by eliminating "executive privilege", 3-will hold brazen criminals accountable, and 4-will convince voters that Democrats care about the Constitution.
