POPSRussia May Send Spacecraft to Asteroid Tunguska's piece of comet that detonated over Siberia in the early 1900's was estimated to be only One hundred feet across. How is a spacecraft going to move this rock with an impact--sustained ion-pulse rocket engines?? They'll just make it hit earth on 2029....I had hoped to live longer than this..

POPSGiant iceberg headed for WA Western Australia is just about out of drinking water. Could be handy if the scientists can work on getting it ashore. We used to joke about dragging icebergs to Australia during droughts. Seems nature is giving it a go. There was an iceberg party being organised for one of these icebergs, but it melted.

POPSHerschel scans hidden Milky Way Herschel intends to study large regions of the Milky Way in its combined Spire-Pacs scanning mode. The instruments will, of course, also work independently. The mission is due to go into routine operations in the next few weeks. However, its third instrument is currently down after experiencing a fault. Engineers can switch to a back-up system to reactivate the Heterodyne Instrument for the Far Infrared (HiFi), but they do not intend to do that until they have satisfied themselves the cause the anomaly is properly understood. The Dutch-led HiFi is a spectrometer that will identify elements and molecules in the clouds of gas and dust which give rise to stars. POPS"On Her Majesty's Space Service" more (at source): "We need to get the next generation excited about the idea of missions to Mars, as one of the people who might go from this country is probably a teenager today," he said. "We should keep a focus of the areas that we are good at – building satellites, space science, building probes etc – but also consider the probability of a British person going to Mars."

POPSISS To Be Scrapped By 2015 I had no idea this thing would be shutdown this early....I can bet this will be the last major effort in our lifetimes. With Obama probably dismissing our efforts for a moon shot, we are going to be stuck on the ground at the mercy of Russia and China. Just like after Apollo, we had to wait years before we went back into space with the Shuttle...

POPSBritish Spaceman and his possible crew Well done Tim. Now do us all a favour and take the thieving bastards out of Westminster, and all the Councils in the country, with you. You'll need a bloody big Tardis, but that will be paid for out of the savings in expenses. Have you noted they (the thieving shits themselves) are insistent on keeping their mortgage payments? Are they stupid or is the electorate?

POPSWe are surrounded by garbage - update Space monkeys ponder the age old problem of the transformation of waste. High on rebellion and smellin' like teen spirit they swear on the Babelogue to ghost dance this issue until the summer cannibals wave. Godspeed they declare and further pledge to whirl away the wild leaves and wing till victory. La merde!
