POPSOne Step Closer to Losing Your Right to Health Care What defines something as a right is whether the government can or cannot prohibit you from doing it. (President Obama notoriously called these "negative liberties".) If the government can't stop you from doing it, then it's a right. We have a right to religious expression because the government is prohibited from suppressing that expression. We have the right to assemble because the government must allow us to do so. We can speak freely because the government cannot censor us. Nor can the government take away law-abiding citizens' firearms. The House of Representatives' health care bill would give the federal government control over what kind of health care you will have access to. Private alternatives to the government plan will become economically unviable, leaving the government plan as a de facto monopoly. Because the Democrats are promising universal health care, demand for health care will skyrocket.

POPSA Declaration of Independence from Big Government
At every turn, the British Crown had concentrated political power and decision-making in its own hands, leaving the American colonists with little ability to manage their own affairs through local and state governments. Laws and rules were imposed without the consent of the governed; local laws and procedures meant to limit abusive or arbitrary government were abrogated or ignored. The king also had attempted to manipulate the legal system by arbitrarily appointing judges that shared his power-lusting purposes or were open to being influenced to serve the monarch’s policy goals. The king’s officials unjustly placed colonists under arrest in violation of writ of habeas corpus, and sentenced them to prison without trial by jury. Colonists often were violently conscripted to serve in the king’s armed forces and made to fight in foreign wars. But what was at the heart of many of their complaints and grievances against King George III were the economic controls that limited . . .

POPSAmericans Fail Civic Literacy Quiz Earning a college degree does little to increase knowledge of America’s history, key texts, and institutions. Only 24% of college graduates know the First Amendment prohibits establishing an official religion for the United States. Only 54% can correctly identify a basic description of the free enterprise system, in which all Americans participate. I felt bad for getting a B, but some of these results are just pathetic...not really too surprising though.

POPSNew Scifi Story About How Google Achieves Consciousness rom the story: When Ed examined the traffic, he realized that Google was doing more than mapping the digital universe. Google doesn't merely link or point to data. It moves data around. Data that are associated frequently by search requests are locally replicated—establishing physical proximity, in the real universe, that is manifested computationally as proximity in time. Google was more than a map. Google was becoming something else.

POPSSpecial Needs Kid told saying God in School Against the Law "The bottom line is the dad got nowhere but did inform them that they had best call him first if they ever are about to discipline his son for speaking about Jesus as it will not be tolerated." Now I normally don't post stuff like this, but this got to me just a bit. I know a couple of Special Needs children and what the teachers did to this child really steams me. What steams me even more is that the clause in the US Constitution has nothing to do with speaking about one's faith in schools or other government buildings. It has to do with not establishing a State Religion. Some people get worked up if you say "God Bless You" to someone. Let's uphold the Constitution without trying to destroy the free will of our kids!

POPSIts the Region-Its all One Action We ARE at war with Iran. It became too dangerous NOT to start the business of transforming the middle east. And you don't IMPOSE freedom on anyone. You SET them free. If they can't get the idea and they try to kill you, you do it first. Both sides of the "argument", the talking heads, the "Seymour Hershes" as well as the Hannitys, are agenda driven, removed from reality.
