POPS2008 Olympic Equestrian Eventing “I was thrilled to be fifth or fourth—I did what I set out to do, and it just got better and better,” Miles said. “I wish my teammates could have been here with me, but they were all supporting me. I felt good the entire competition. I had a plan and stuck to it, and that made all the difference. I’ve always known he’s the most amazing event horse in the world, and I’m happy to see him shine and let everyone know what an amazing animal he is.” Miles, riding in her first Olympics, said the lights in the arena helped brighten up McKinlaigh. “That little extra life works to my favor,” she said.

On August 21, the top 35 horses and riders from the team competition advance to Round A of the individual medal final. Of those, the top 20 in Round A will go on to Round B. Fox-Pitt is currently world No. 1, while King is No. 3 Philip Dutton, winner of the 2008 Kentucky title, was on two gold medal-winning teams for Australia and now joins the U.S. team following a nationality change. More than 200 athletes from 42 countries and regions will compete for six team and individual gold medals in the 11-day events.

POPSOlympic Horses Arrive In Hong Kong Nearly 70 equine athletes in the Olympic Equestrian Events have landed in Hong Kong, stepping off their flights and being whisked by first-class transport to spacious and cool accommodations in Sha Tin. The cosmopolitan horses represent 18 nations, including Belgium, Finland, Mexico, Italy, Japan, Sweden, France, South Korea, Russia, Canada, and Germany. In all, around 220 horses competing for 42 nations are traveling on more than 50 airplanes to get to the Games in Hong Kong.
