POPSAn Old Law Dies So Same-Sex Marriage Can Thrive Massachusetts has repealed it 1913 law that refused recognition of marriages performed in their state that would not be recognized in a couple's home state. New York, and California will also recognize same-sex marriages in this manner. This will probably result in many lawsuits in states that have banned gay marriage, by demanding that their marriages from Massachusetts and California be honoured at home, claiming that it is unconstitutional to refuse recognition of marriages from other states. Anyhoo, this is another step forward towards marriage equality in the U.S. and it is about time.

Each child took the 2003 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), an internationally standardized assessment of math, reading, science and problem-solving ability. The team used four tools to measure how well women were integrated into each society compared with men. These tools were the 2006 Gender Gap Index (GGI) developed by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

POPSWomen With the horror of the recent "honor" killing in Georgia as the backdrop, I'm inspired to remind everyone that women die at the hands of male family members every day in the US. In fact, 4 times a day. I'm tired of the Right acting like they really care about women and gender equality. The only mention of women in the 2004 Republican platform is their insistence that if a woman gets pregnant, by law she'll stay that way until delivery. I went to a number of right wing websites and typed the words "violence against women" into their search engines. If any stories were listed at all, they were about honor killings in the Muslim world. The Right wrap their "concern" for women in the cloak of anti-Islamic rhetoric concerning honor killings and are dumb, deaf, and blind to all else. Enough. Islam is not the problem. Patriarchy is.

I'm sure he would be deeply saddened, for sure. :mad:

A number of studies have shown Jewish people have a higher average IQ than non-Jewish whites (109-115 average for Jewish folks, versus 100-103 for non-Jewish whites). The Hitlerites falsely claimed Aryans were just as smart, or, bizarrely, smarter than Jews, and the reason there were a disproportionate number of Jewish lawyers, physicians, journalists, etc., was because of Jews banding together and discriminating against non-Jews, rather than outcomes entirely deserved. Inversion of the truth on IQ differences helped cause hatred and the most monstrous violence the world has ever seen. Today, similar lies are again stoking hatred against Jewish and other whites, and against north Asians as well.

Studies of monkeys, apes, and Homo sapiens offer ample hope that we can overcome our aggressive tendencies and greatly reduce or maybe even eliminate warfare.
