POPSHonduras leader could be restored The military grabbed him from his home at dawn and deported him to Costa Rica. He sneaked back into the country Sept. 21 and took refuge in the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa, where he has remained, the compound surrounded by Honduran troops. Zelaya's removal from office has been viewed worldwide as one of the most serious challenges to face Latin America in a decade. The coup was both a throwback to the region's dark past of civil war and military takeover and emblematic of a struggle underway today in Central and South America, where several leftist leaders with authoritarian tendencies have risen to power through elections and tested the bounds of democracy.

POPSEPA Rules Farm Dust NOT SAFE, Must Be Regulated But the U.S. District Court of Appeals in Washington ruled Tuesday that the EPA had already provided the evidence necessary to determine farm dust "likely is not safe." Michael Formica, a lawyer for the pork council, said this means farmers now face the daunting task of proving a negative - that the dust is not harmful. Formica said his and other groups will consider a further appeal. Farmers said they will be hard-pressed to meet the standards. In a letter sent Wednesday to the EPA, Grassley wrote that compliance would be impossible because of the dust produced in farmers' day-to-day activities. Grassley also has noted that because many rural roads are not paved, particulate readings could be affected by wind gusts that constantly change. "After all, God decides when the wind blows, not Chuck Grassley," he said. But the EPA said the regulation was overdue. http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/030109/bus_399791974.shtml

POPSProtect against toxic chemicals
I am shocked and deeply disturbed that the law that is supposed to protect Americans from exposure to toxic chemicals is so outdated that China is allowed to export toxic materials into the United States that are not only banned in Japan and Europe, but can't even be used domestically in China. Every American alive today, including newborn babies, has hundreds of chemicals flowing through their blood. Many of these chemicals are linked to prostate and breast cancers, diabetes, heart disease, lowered sperm counts, early puberty and other diseases and disorders. Yet, of the 82,000 chemicals available for use in the U.S., only about 200 have been required to be tested for safety. And the EPA has succeeded in banning only one group of chemicals, PCBs, from the marketplace. It's time to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). I urge you to support legislation that will: view more 1. Take immediate action to stop the use of the most dangerous toxic chemicals; 2. Give

POPSTires Recycled into Mulch with Rubberecycle "Cash for Clunkers" helped the environment by getting older cars off the road. It also created a surplus of tires that could end up in landfills. Rubberecycle hopes to recycle those tires and turn them into mulch products that can be used for playgrounds and landscaping.

POPSDaring to Question Al Gore "The director of "Not Evil, Just Wrong," a documentary challenging Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth," dares to ask a question at the Society of Environmental Journalists annual conference. Apparently Mr. Gore only allows the 'right kind' of questions to be asked of him. "

POPSThe Science Behind Global Warming Is Settled. Sadly, It's Also Been Incinerated
The Dog Ate Global Warming, by Patrick J. Michaels @NRO Imagine if there were no reliable records of global surface temperature. Raucous policy debates such as cap-and-trade would have no scientific basis, Al Gore would at this point be little more than a historical footnote, and President Obama would not be spending this U.N. session talking up a (likely unattainable) international climate deal in Copenhagen in December. Steel yourself for the new reality, because the data needed to verify the gloom-and-doom warming forecasts have disappeared. Or so it seems. Apparently, they were either lost or purged from some discarded computer. Only a very few people know what really happened, and they aren’t talking much. And what little they are saying makes no sense. In the early 1980s, with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, scientists at the United Kingdom’s University of East Anglia established the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) to produce . .

POPSLive East of Arizona? Say "Thanks EPA!" If you live east of Arizona and this proposed $3 billion coal fired plant were to be built - all of us to the east would have more coal produced pollution thrust in to your air, rain, and land, as well as lungs. The ash and mercury from Ohio coal fired plants more or less killed the once pristine lakes in New York. Be happy that you may not have this Arizona coal air to sift through you lungs and the lungs of our land.

POPSDiscovery of Dead Cows in Brady Leads to Radiation Inquiry "We are looking at that scenario but most of the missiles have been removed in the last few years from Pondera County." While unlikely to be from the military, samples taken this week will hopefully be able to pinpoint where the radiation came from and solve at least one mystery. Results of the radiation test should take a couple months.

POPSWho Is And Isn't Qualified To Speak On Global Warming? This is different than the Times’ (and others’) treatment of and lack of interest in the academic training of the individual regularly cited without such “just an economist” commentary as a leading and essentially unimpeachable authority, the economist and former railway engineer Rajendra Pachauri. The Times has even hailed Pachauri in the past as the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s chief “climatologist”. Climatology is a specialty field if ever there was one but a qualification which Pachauri, for all of his other virtues toiling for years in the UN vineyards, attained by virtue of being appointed to head the IPCC. This is unfairly disparate treatment. Read more http://biggovernment.com/2009/09/25/who-is-and-isnt-qualified-to-speak-on-global-warming/#more-8630

POPSUnruly To Be Lessoned In Green I am currently stuck ( a problem I am hoping to alleviate before winter) with the now Infamous Unitil Electric company. If you have not heard , they were the one's whose clients were without power for 14 days during last year's ice storm. This company has never spent a dime in emergency planning( no joke) or testing despite an annual raise in rates , until this year. Yet the top 10 on the board are pulling in 6 figure salary's. With company's like this around how can you afford not to go green?

POPSClean Water Laws Are Neglected, at the Cost in Suffering
“How can we get digital cable and Internet in our homes, but not clean water?” asked one resident. When the source of the pollutants were found, state regulators never fined or punished the offending companies. The Clean Water Act was passed nearly four decades ago to force polluters to disclose what they dump and to give regulators the power to fine or jail offenders. So why haven’t these offenders been fined or jailed? And more importantly, why is this allowed to continue? The federal govt is big on writing legislation that ‘proves to its citizens’ that they are ‘concerned for our safety’ but are sorely lacking on follow-through. The new EPA administrator says that she intends to strengthen water protections, but, given their track record what good is strengthening a regulation that does not get enforced? This is just more BS to keep her job. Meanwhile residents who have the misfortune of living downstream from well-known, blatant polluters know they will not be protected

POPSAmerican Socialism & Chinese Capitalism
We have urged China to join us in our quixotic attempt to prevent global warming. She has refused, arguing that her per capita consumption of energy is the lowest of any industrial country. Except for the leftist economists, economics tells us that we should let the prices of different energy sources determine when a new source is ready for development. No subsidy would be required if we let the market make the decision. Totalitarian China accepts this approach; free market U.S. takes the Soviet prescription. American firms are currently not investing in the United States. Net non-residential investment is barely enough to replace capital that is wearing out. Instead, billions have been wasted by corporate managers who have been engaging in such foolishness as buying back corporate stock. All this does is increase share prices that will supposedly justify management bonuses when earnings stagnate. Even banks did this throughout the run-up to the financial crisis, . . . . .
