POPSUS 49% fish toxic - what do you think global toxicity is? We do not protect our water as well as we should but we do a better job than most of the areas we are importing fish from, I believe. Wonder if they sell portable kits so you could test your meal before ordering at Red Lobster is you still kill fish - er eat fish. Sorry, I am a vegan - grin.

POPSEPA Rules Farm Dust NOT SAFE, Must Be Regulated But the U.S. District Court of Appeals in Washington ruled Tuesday that the EPA had already provided the evidence necessary to determine farm dust "likely is not safe." Michael Formica, a lawyer for the pork council, said this means farmers now face the daunting task of proving a negative - that the dust is not harmful. Formica said his and other groups will consider a further appeal. Farmers said they will be hard-pressed to meet the standards. In a letter sent Wednesday to the EPA, Grassley wrote that compliance would be impossible because of the dust produced in farmers' day-to-day activities. Grassley also has noted that because many rural roads are not paved, particulate readings could be affected by wind gusts that constantly change. "After all, God decides when the wind blows, not Chuck Grassley," he said. But the EPA said the regulation was overdue. http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/030109/bus_399791974.shtml

POPSProtect against toxic chemicals
I am shocked and deeply disturbed that the law that is supposed to protect Americans from exposure to toxic chemicals is so outdated that China is allowed to export toxic materials into the United States that are not only banned in Japan and Europe, but can't even be used domestically in China. Every American alive today, including newborn babies, has hundreds of chemicals flowing through their blood. Many of these chemicals are linked to prostate and breast cancers, diabetes, heart disease, lowered sperm counts, early puberty and other diseases and disorders. Yet, of the 82,000 chemicals available for use in the U.S., only about 200 have been required to be tested for safety. And the EPA has succeeded in banning only one group of chemicals, PCBs, from the marketplace. It's time to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). I urge you to support legislation that will: view more 1. Take immediate action to stop the use of the most dangerous toxic chemicals; 2. Give

POPSLive East of Arizona? Say "Thanks EPA!" If you live east of Arizona and this proposed $3 billion coal fired plant were to be built - all of us to the east would have more coal produced pollution thrust in to your air, rain, and land, as well as lungs. The ash and mercury from Ohio coal fired plants more or less killed the once pristine lakes in New York. Be happy that you may not have this Arizona coal air to sift through you lungs and the lungs of our land.

POPSThe Dust Storm Saga We here are still engulfed by dust and smoke from fires. The dust carried all the way to the very top of queensland and across the ocean to kiwi land. People here have no idea how much is dust and how much smoke. There is a difference though our skies are a white haze - so the sun looks like the moon and I wrote to friends and said, "I feel like I am on the moon looking at the moon's moon." Strange is an understatement. The second photo is one I took today we are almost into a whole week of the dust, haze storm. Personally, I have not been too affected by it. This article from BBC is interesting though. We had floods earlier this year that flooded 60% of Queensland. A good friend here, has a husband who works in a mine inland. The Environmental Protection Agency called for it to be closed down because the tailings dam was overflowing into the main water catchment for the town and all the towns further downstream. It had a pH of 2.

POPSSteven Chu: Americans Are Like 'Teenage Kids' When it Comes to Energy More elitist behavior; and yes, they are influencing our kids through public indoctrination. I'm all for being a responsible energy user. I have noticed one thing though...the more we try to save on our utility bill, the more revenue the city loses so they have to increase the rates! Lose - Lose.

POPSAustin Texas real estate blog The National Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set requirements and standards that all states are legally bound to adhere to, in the Clean Air Act. These are designed to reduce green house emissions from cars, and other modes of transportation.

POPSInternal Treasury Memos: Cap & Tax Could Cost Americans $100 to $200 Billion Annually "This memo tells you it's a tax. Why else are they discussing hundreds of billions of revenue to be taken from the taxpayer?" This leaked memo must be immediately rebuked, people will don white robes and gallop across the countryside. Obama's black. We can't have leaks proving he's lying. It's racist. I condemn that piece of paper with its bigoted numbers for inciting racial hatred. Corrected: I wrote the figures were "far higher" than the numbers Obama admits, but I see now there is no reference to what numbers Obama admits, precisely. So I can't say they're "far" higher. I have corrected that to "higher." posted by Ace

POPSEPA Fails to Inform Public About Weed-Killer in Drinking Water Ah hell, let’s add the EPA to the list of evil corporations as well. Atrazine has become an issue of concern for environmentalists and consumer groups as the use of the herbicide has soared in the United States over the past few decades. "It is the responsibility of the EPA and Syngenta to inform the public of accurate levels of atrazine in their drinking water," said Jason Rohr, a specialist in ecotoxicology at the University of South Florida who studies the effects of atrazine in animals, and who served on the EPA's atrazine panel this past spring. No wonder Americans are getting fed up with what our government is doing and not doing. They are allowing corporations to poison us by allowing them to escape responsibility, they are allowing the EPA to not warn us of chemical poisoning. What is next? A healthcare system designed to cover up the causes of illnesses created by these ‘evil corporations’?

POPSCap and Trade Equals Fraud and Tax In a cap and trade system, the government deems a certain level of pollution acceptable as long as the polluter pays a tax. That's like saying that it's acceptable for someone to throw trash on your lawn so long as he has bought a government permit. Even worse, he can throw even more trash on your lawn if he buys additional permits from someone who refrains from throwing trash on your lawn. In effect, cap and trade legalizes pollution. True environmentalists -- those of us who are concerned about things such as clean air and water -- should oppose schemes like H.R. 2454. H.R. 2454 is not designed to clean up the environment. It is designed to generate more revenue for the government and to give the government more power over the economy, our lives, and our freedom. And it does so at the expense of the environment.

POPSObama's long six months
Obama sold the country a false prospectus of easy, obvious, and almost painless change. The usual six honeymoon months have elapsed, and the country is nearly through rejoicing at the consolation that they have a president whom foreigners are unlikely to throw shoes at, and who speaks in sentences. But his own Environmental Protection Agency director acknowledges that his cap-and-trade bill will have no effect on the climate, and it will neither raise revenue nor reduce carbon use. It must be replaced with a straight carbon tax of bearable impact coupled with sensible conservation, and alternate-energy-source and oil-exploration incentives. The bill that limped through the House of Representatives was a Rube Goldberg contraption of Al Gore myths and Congressional vote-buying boondoggles. Its adoption would be a disaster. The president’s claim of putting millions of Americans to work making wind-mills and solar panels is a fable that extends the frontiers of quixotry.
