We do not protect our water as well as we should but we do a better job than most of the areas we are importing fish from, I believe. Wonder if they sell portable kits so you could test your meal before ordering at Red Lobster is you still kill fish - er eat fish. Sorry, I am a vegan - grin.

Desk-Bound Journalists Blow Hopi and Navajo Green Stories

It is sad to see what damage can be done when some journalists take to rewriting company PR. The hard work of Hopi and Navajo people to save their land and heritage is easily overlooked and set back by those who have degrees in journalism process but no on-the-ground knowledge about anything or the gumption to get at all sides of a story.

Once Again The Animals Were Conscious of A Vague Uneasiness
papananook
by papananook  9-22-2009    3
It came then to pass that we received those tools. The Democratic president and Congress, and after some finagling even the sixty-seat majority in the Senate. I was advised to watch for the great change to come rolling over us like a flood; we would soon be awash in progressivism. Our boys would come home from foreign wars, we would close our illegal prison camps, abandon torture and rendition. The rich would again be taxed, environmental abuses rolled back, people put ahead of corporations. We would get universal health care. Some of this would happen immediately upon Barack Obama taking office. Much would be in place in a magical, marvelous "first hundred days." What great changes a year would bring. I don't have to tell you there is great and crushing disappointment among those who most fervently supported candidate Obama and his campaign for Change We Can Believe In. We are still wasting money and lives in Iraq. We are wasting money and lives in Afghanistan at the highest rate si

The Valerie Jarrett Show

the leftist group Jones helped to found, and which launched the advertiser boycott against Fox News host Glenn Beck. The counsel's office places part of the blame on the Office for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement, which is overseen by Obama Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President Valerie Jarrett. "This wasn't simply Valerie Jarrett rubberstamping her guy," says a White House source. But Jarrett did view Jones as a critical member of the administration for her outreach efforts, in part, because he was so well known and respected in the radical-left world Playing to those types is another reason Jarrett's office approved the invitation of Jameel Jaffer, who runs the ACLU's "national security project," to the White House Ramadan dinner last week. Jaffer, a Canadian citizen, attended the dinner, which President Obama said was being held for American Muslims. Jaffer is a cause célèbre to the far left for his career of litigating against

LA Official Blames Environmentalists for Raging Wildfires

Biologist Ileene Anderson with the Center for Biological Diversity, an environmental organization, said burn permits should be difficult to get because of the potential damage to air quality. Clearing chaparral by hand or machine must be closely scrutinized because it can hurt native species. "Our air quality, for a variety of factors, doesn't need to be further reduced by these controlled burns," she said. /tree-hugging eco-whacko

Something Completely Different: Good News for Madagascar
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  8-29-2009    2
We can breath a little easier in hte next 10 years or so because why? Reforestation has begun in Madagascar. Didn't know they needed it? Well, they are not in the news so much - that's one of the reasons I clipped the story. Many of the worst cases of environmental damage - we never hear of - until it's too late. Did you know China wanted to lease hundreds of thousands of acres of land in Madagascar to farm and import food for themselves - a revolution ensued and the dust has not yet settled. Well to do countries all over the world are still messing up land elsewhere in ways they could not get away with at home - but it all comes home eventually - vial a flu pandemic, if no other way.

Cash for Clunkers: What Are the Facts?
merrie
by merrie  8-9-2009    1
What about used car salesmen and used-parts dealers, whose livelihoods depend on these cars and parts? Every car traded in through the Cash for Clunkers program must be "scrapped, crushed, or shredded." As much as the program may be temporarily helping one part of the economy, it is permanently hurting the good men and women whose livelihoods depend on older cars and parts. Question 3: Does Cash for Clunkers actually help the environment? According to Gwen Ottinger, a researcher at the Chemical Heritage Foundation's Center for Contemporary History and Policy in Philadelphia, the answer is hazy at best: Building a new car, washing machine or refrigerator takes energy and resources: The manufacture of steel, aluminum and plastics are energy-intensive processes, and some of the materials used in durable goods, especially plastics, use non-renewable fossil fuels as feedstocks as well as energy sources. Disposing of old products, a step required by most incentive and rebate

Proof That Thimerosal Induces Autism-Like Neurotoxicity
brightlight4
by brightlight4  8-6-2009
The Genetic Catch-All Many have tried to debunk the autism-vaccine link, oftentimes blaming the disorder on genetic factors, but the connection refuses to go away. And for valid reasons. So far, scientists have been able to link genetic defects to a mere one percent of autism cases. Although the other 99 percent are still unaccounted for, conventional media rarely underscore this fact, focusing instead on the minority link to genetic predisposition. For example, last year the U.S. government concluded that childhood vaccines contributed to symptoms of autism in 9-year-old Hannah Poling. According to U.S. Division of Vaccine Injury Compensation, the shots "significantly aggravated an underlying mitochondrial disorder" and resulted in a brain disorder "with features of autism spectrum disorder." Again, they finally conceded that those with genetic predispositions can develop autism when injected with thimerosal. But industry is still refusing to take any respo

Iraq in throes of environmental catastrophe, experts say
ratilfar
by ratilfar  7-30-2009    2
Decades of war and mismanagement, compounded by two years of drought, are wreaking havoc on Iraq's ecosystem, drying up riverbeds and marshes, turning arable land into desert, killing trees and plants, and generally transforming what was once the region's most fertile area into a wasteland. Falling agricultural production means that Iraq, once a food exporter, will this year have to import nearly 80% of its food, spending money that is urgently needed for reconstruction projects.

The 'Cap And Tax' Dead End By Sarah Palin July 14, 2009
merrie
by merrie  7-14-2009    1
Particularly in Alaska, we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security. Consequently, many of us in this huge, energy-rich state recognize that the president's cap-and-trade energy tax would adversely affect every aspect of the U.S. economy. There is no denying that as the world becomes more industrialized, we need to reform our energy policy and become less dependent on foreign energy sources. But the answer doesn't lie in making energy scarcer and more expensive! Those who understand the issue know we can meet our energy needs and environmental challenges without destroying America's economy. Job losses are so certain under this new cap-and-tax plan that it includes a provision accommodating newly unemployed workers from the resulting dried-up energy sector, to the tune of $4.2 billion over eight years. So much for creating jobs. In addition to immediately increasing unemployment in the energy sector, . . .
