POPSHow much do you trust Federal regulation of food these days? Deregulation, budget gutting, and over politicized Presidential appointments has led to Bush League safety and regulation of anything that has to do with our common interests and security as citizens and consumer. GM animal products are just another scheme to get bigger profit for already obese CEOs and should be opposed until we have real leadership in Congress and the White House.

POPSDid ice on Mars ever melted ?? Preliminary results from an experiment that baked a soil sample in one of Phoenix's test ovens failed to yield evidence of water. A data glitch on the lander this week prevented scientists from getting the results right away from the last testing phase. Water is a prerequisite for life, but it's just one piece of the equation. Scientists generally agree that organic carbon and an energy source like the sun are also considered necessary ingredients. Mars today is arid and dusty, constantly bombarded by radiation and with no apparent trace of water on its surface. But carvings of channels and gullies on the Martian surface suggest a wetter past. Some scientists speculate that water may have evaporated into the atmosphere and the rest trapped beneath the surface in the form of ice. "The holy grail is to find water near the surface of Mars," said astrobiologist Mitch Sogin of the Marine Biological Lab in Woods Hole, Mass., who is not part of the mission.

POPSMade entirely from trash, Semakau Island, Singapore Started as a garbage disposal dump - today it is an island, where birds nest and people play, oblivious of the fact that the entire island is made of rubbish! 66 bird species have been recorded here. Along with various marine life (corrals, sponges, starfish, etc), all the animals have been fooled into thinking its a natural island! Singapore has been incinerating its waste here since 1999.

POPSWhat can the budget for the Iraq War buy? Doesn't clip as well as I hoped so visit the website: Remarkable, that it is admitted these days (by generals, former administration appointees, and neocon architects of the war) that the war in Iraq is about controlling oil resources, and look what you could do with the money that we've spent on that fiasco. POPSOpec warns drive for bio-fuels could lead to soaring prices This is a flat out lie. Any attempt to threaten the dominance of OPEC will be met with a crashing of the oil market. OPEC has done this before. For example, there is a move to convert coal to gasoline. However, the investors are wanting insurance from the government to protect their investment in building the facilities. They know that if they set the wheels in mothion, OPEC will drop prices and put them out of business. This happened in the early 80s to the synthetic fuels movement.
