POPSSharing Culture, One Tweet At A Time "The idea of Twitter is it's a giant party and you can have as many conversations at the same time as you want with however many people you want, and you essentially sit there and let all the conversation wash over you," he says. "It's very emblematic of the age. Whether it's going to stick around forever, I'm still unconvinced." And so am I...

POPSTrue Grit November 27, 1931: Concert pianist Paul Wittgenstein impresses a Vienna audience with his performance of Maurice Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand. The pianist refused to give up his career after losing his right arm in World War I. 1981: John Kennedy Toole is posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for A Confederacy of Dunces. His gritty mom, Thelma Ducoing Toole, had enlisted the initially skeptical Walker Percy to help get the book published after Toole’s suicide. 1993: Andrew Wiles announces that after many years of work he has solved the seemingly unsolvable Fermat’s Last Theorem. Mathematicians discover a small error, but Wiles resolves it within another year. October 2008: After a decade spent lobbying, high school dropout Alvin Sykes sees the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act " named for the black teenager brutally murdered in 1955 for reportedly whistling at a white woman in Mississippi " signed into law, largely because of his relentless efforts.

POPSRight-wing Talk Show’s Ideology of Hate Strikes Again
Are hate mongers keeping a tally of the murders they help create with their hate endorsements? O'Reilly practically ordered Dr Tiller to be assassinated. The airwaves, right wing nuts use free speech as a tool to promote their morally revolting ideology of hate. I’ll bet if it were up to them, they would order anyone who doesn't feel the same kind of animosity they feel towards people deemed unfit, to be taken out, i.e. Dr. Tiller. When I heard that the former U.S. Def. Sec. Wm. Cohen's wife had written a play about an imaginary conversation between 2 teenage victims of HATE, Anne Frank and Emmett Till, I lost it. This should be theater for everyone. Emmett Till: Born: 7/25/41, Chicago, Ill. – beaten and lynched: Aug., 1955 because he was black and dared to whistle, flirtatiously at a white woman. Anne Frank - born 6/12/29 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany who hid for over 2 years from govt. killers in Nazi Germany. She died March 1945, in a concentration camp.

POPSYou Fornicated At Your Own Peril "It's cool that the filmmakers explore the beginnings of the gay and lesbian pride movement, and how the Stonewall uprising of 69 was the watershed moment in the movement. But it would've been nice if the directors had acknowledged that it was black and Puerto Rican drag queens such as the late Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera who got things started back when the cops showed up at the Stonewall Inn."

POPSWelcome Back to the 19th Century Apologists for Russia can point to lots of mitigating circumstances, starting with the biggest one of Christmas Day 1991, when the hammer-and-sickle flag over the Kremlin went down for the last time, and up went the Russian tricolor. Poof, and a whole empire from the Baltic to Kazakhstan was suddenly gone. Yes, that chilled the Russian soul, and so did Georgia's love affair with the United States. How dare Georgia, the birthplace of Stalin, sidle up to the EU and NATO? In the greater scheme of things, though, Georgia's geopolitical crimes pale against a simple historical truth: 8/8 is payback for 12/25, when the Soviet Empire expired. That, as Mr. Putin has told us, was the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century," and ever since he was anointed neo-czar in 2000, he has been working hard, and as time went by ever more ham-handedly, to reverse the verdict of the Cold War -- to regain what Russia had lost.
