E-Newspaper
iulawboy
by iulawboy  2-10-2009
I was excited about the possibilities until I learned I'd have to fork out at least $300 for the reader and then who knows what for the content. Currently I pay about $200 a year for the newspaper so it will take years to recover any cost associated with the e-reader even if the price of the paper was cut in half.

First Electronic Ink Magazine Cover Expected
Mohir
by Mohir  7-25-2008    9
“The possibilities of print have just begun. In two years, I hope this looks like cellphones did in 1982, or car phones.” Science fiction readers have been looking forward to this development for a long time, and can give us an idea of what this technology will look like in coming years. For example, writer Greg Bear had a very clear view of the Esquire E-ink cover in 2003 in "Darwin's Children." He wrote about e-paper covers with speaker chips.

Electronic Paper
cduck19802002
by cduck19802002  8-2-2007    1
The Holy Grail of electronic ink technology is a digital book that can typeset itself and that readers could leaf through just as if it were made of regular paper. Such a book could be programmed to display the text from Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea," and once you've finished that tale, you could automatically replace it by wirelessly downloading a different book. You may be able to alternate between 10 books or more. Your newspaper would be impacted greatly. No more paper boy. Just download the Wall Street Journal to your EPD.

That's some serious money, looks like the age of e-paper may actually be near. From Plastic Logic's site... "The thinness, lightness and robustness enabled by the flexibility of Plastic Logic’s displays will, at last, enable electronic reader products that are as comfortable and natural to read as paper whether at the beach, in a train or relaxing on the sofa at home."
