New Errors In IPCC Climate Change Report
merrie
by merrie  2-8-2010    1
Researchers insist the errors are minor and do not impact on the overall conclusions about climate change. However, senior scientists are now expressing concern at the way the IPCC compiles its reports and have hit out at the panel’s use of so-called “grey literature” " evidence from sources that have not been subjected to scientific scrutiny. A new poll has revealed that public belief in climate change is weakening. The panel’s controversial chair, Rajendra Pachauri is facing pressure to resign over the affair. Drafts of the reports are checked by scientific reviewers before they are subjected to line-by-line approval by the 130 member countries of the IPCC. Despite these checks, a diagram used to demonstrate the potential for generating electricity from wave power has been found to contain numerous errors. The source of information for the diagram was cited as the website of UK-based wave-energy company Wavegen. Yet the diagram on Wavegen’s website contain ....

Abbott unruffled in ironing row
tabsey
by tabsey  2-8-2010    1
Politicians usually say a lot that they don't really mean or understand. With enough bad luck, this person (bigoted, conservative, father of more than his three daughters, disciple of archbishop Pel, etc) could become our Prime Minister one day. Though I reckon infighting in the party will bring down Abbot and those male supporters chauvinistic enough to support him.

PURE EVIL
kareval
by kareval  2-8-2010    2
Taliban commanders used to come to our house. There was an underground bunker beside the house, with electricity. It was concrete and very strong. Cars would drive on top but no-one would realise what was underneath. In that hideout they used to train suicide bombers. Most were children of my age or younger than me. They were used for these activities because they were too young to know any better. Going to 'paradise' I used to see these children getting on a vehicle to go for their missions. They used loud Islamic CDs to motivate them. And I would think, "My God, more Muslims are going to be buried". Then the news would come that more Muslims were wiped out.

BBC News - Snowstorm paralyses Washington DC and eastern US
Lotus_01
by Lotus_01  2-6-2010
"They say this is going to be a record snowfall. It is nice to be part of history" The heaviest snow storms for decades have struck the eastern US, paralysing air and road transport, and bringing Washington DC to a standstill. The storm knocked down power lines and left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity. Nearly 2ft (60cm) of snow had fallen by noon on Saturday in cities across the region, the Associated Press reports.

Cold Weather Stalls Windpower in Minnesota
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  2-5-2010    1
Another example of what happens when the ALL KNOWING Government decides they have a better idea. All 20 of the newly installed wind-turbines which were supposed to help reduce fossil fuel energy production has failed to produce any electricity. Sounds like the government full of hot air and accomplishing absolutely nothing but wasting taxpayer money. So this weeks DODO bird award goes to the officials of Minnesota who actually thought up this lame brain idea. This one certainly has flown over the Cuckoo's nest.

Shocker: “Stimulus” Spending Subsidizing Green Energy There Is No Demand For
merrie
by merrie  2-4-2010    1
What’s sad is that the politicians are no doubt looking at this problem, which stems from a lack of demand for wind energy (thanks to high prices even with subsidies), as something to be solved with…more subsidies. Meaning we’d be subsidizing demand for a product, wind energy, the supply of which we also subsidized into existence. Maybe, just maybe, the government shouldn’t be trying to steer energy markets. “Stimulus” Spending Subsidizing Supply Of Green Energy There Is No Demand For http://bit.ly/a0uHLB http://sayanythingblog.com

From ‘Cap and Trade’ to ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ —
merrie
by merrie  2-4-2010    1
They want the “Climate Bill” to pass because it’s designed to gouge the energy and manufacturing sector out of $646 billion in tax dollars over ten years. All to finance his crypto-socialist programs. The Democrats see the climate bill as a cash cow, but Republicans aren’t buying it. The 104 nuclear reactors in operation in 31 states provide only 20 percent of the nation’s electricity. But they are responsible for 70 percent of the power from pollution-free sources, including wind, solar and hydroelectric dams. The only real issue with nuclear power is nuclear waste. The plants themselves do not emit any significant radiation. You receive more exposure to radiation flying in a plane than you do if you lived next to a nuclear power plant. The United States government spent $38 billion on the Yucca Mountain facility in Nevada, after years of environmental and feasibility studies. But green ideologues and their political vassals like Harry Reid have finally managed

The Power of Green
Rustee
by Rustee  1-30-2010    1
Advocates justify feed-in tariffs on two grounds. First, that they aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions. However, the RWI analysis found that the feed-in tariffs for solar electricity in Germany are equivalent to paying more than $1,000 per ton to reduce carbon dioxide emissions (the wind power subsidy from feed in tariffs was better at only $80 per ton). Advocates also claim that increasing the market for renewable sources of energy will eventually drive down their prices so that they become as cheap as fossil fuels. However, the RWI report found instead that feed-in tariffs create perverse incentives to lock into existing high cost technologies. And why not? Feed-in tariffs function like old-fashioned cost-plus utility rate settings since they guarantee cost recovery plus a set profit margin.
