POPSScientists to study synthetic telepathy “Such a system would require extensive training for anyone using it to send and receive messages,” D’Zmura says. “Initially, communication would be based on a limited set of words or phrases that are recognized by the system; it would involve more complex language and speech as the technology is developed further.”

POPSScientists to study synthetic telepathy The brain-computer interface would use a noninvasive brain imaging technology like electroencephalography to let people communicate thoughts to each other. For example, a soldier would “think” a message to be transmitted and a computer-based speech recognition system would decode the EEG signals. The decoded thoughts, in essence translated brain waves, are transmitted using a system that points in the direction of the intended target. “Such a system would require extensive training for anyone using it to send and receive messages,” D’Zmura says. “Initially, communication would be based on a limited set of words or phrases that are recognized by the system; it would involve more complex language and speech as the technology is developed further.”

POPSEmotiv's new brain-computer interface Emotiv Systems recently unveiled a brain/computer interface system with a helmet and software applications. The Project Epoc system can move objects based on a gamer's thoughts, reflect facial expressions, and respond to the excitement or calm the gamer mentally exerts.

POPSEEG controls for your PC? I have long wanted to do this, but I have failed to attract interest in it. I am glad someone else is actually doing it!

POPSPinpoint ACC From the Scalp? Nyyeee! However, it's not at all clear that ERN reflects conflict-monitoring (Carbonnell & Falkenstein, 2006). Liberals showed larger ERN waves than conservatives when mistakenly responding on No-Go trials. However, so do individuals with clinical diagnoses such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (Gehring et al., 2000) or major depressive disorder (Chiu & Deldin, 2007).

POPSBrain-Computer Interface - Forget multi-touch screens! Think Jeff Han's multi-touch interface is the next big thing? Not anymore... Maybe this is the first step toward a kind of 'telepathy', if I may. Seems like a great way for us to learn greater control of our bodies/minds. Anybody else see similarities between this and meditation? ooo, maybe it'll help me get in the zone at the gym!

POPSElectrodes from the couch A new device that measures brain waves could help solve the first problem. While it may take patients several weeks of medication to feel better, previous research has shown that brain-activity changes measured via electroencephalogram (EEG) can, within just one week, predict if that medicine will help. Patients who are likely to improve show a decrease in activity in certain parts of the brain.

POPSHuman-Aided Computing In addition to finding faces, Tan says, there is evidence that the strategy could be useful for identifying other types of objects, such as dogs or cats, and different types of words. Subconscious brain power could therefore improve automated image search by preclassifying objects to help a computer more accurately identify pictures.

POPSMusic: Mirror Of The Mind Quote the next paragraph: "In addition, the team determined a complexity index for the compositions and brain function, a number to describe the intricacy of either the musical patterns or electrical signals. The complexity indices for both patterns were less than two. This suggests that both the brain and the composition are self-organized, but in the case of the composition, it probably reflects the self-organized mind of the composer. The interpretation of the complexity index remains a question for further research."
