POPSProposed Power Corridor Raises Eminent Domain Concerns in Six States
In addition to concerns expressed by farmers, local businesses relying on eco-tourism are opposed to the lines, which they fear would permanently blight places of significance like Harriet Tubman's birthplace and the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Landowners, environmentalists and businesses that oppose the power line are urging representatives to consider alternatives, such as wind power or burying the lines. POPSInnovation That Genuinely Gives Something Back to the Planet I originally was clipping this for a reply to a comment on the Jarawa people and the tourist resort that the developers would like to see pushed through. We have to start thinking outside the box. Eco-tourism still adds to the diminishment of fragile habitat areas. This and the clip about "Greening the Deserts" are signs that people are implementing out of the box ideas that ultimately give back more than we take from this planet.

POPSProtected Areas & Ecosystem Services Many developing countries, such as China, Brazil and Cuba, requested deletion of references to innovative financial mechanisms throughout the text, and to “payment for ecosystem services” and language on “removing legislative barriers that may hinder the diversification of incomes for PAs.” Colombia however, did support the development of measures to promote the evaluation of ecosystem services in PAs to achieve greater linkages between conservation, poverty alleviation and the MDGs. This led to the retention of brackets on two alternative proposals: one by Brazil, stating that countries should develop a “socioeconomic justification” to increase PA funding by linking PAs to development agendas; and another proposed by Cuba, stating that better integration of conservation and development should be achieved by promoting the valuation of ecosystem services.

POPSGlobal Warming opens up new trade route?
